The House of Representatives passed the American Health Care Act Thursday on a party-line vote Thursday afternoon, advancing the Obamacare “repeal and replace” legislation to the U.S. Senate.
The bill passed 217-213, with several in the GOP voting against it. Democrats taunted the Republicans as the bill was passed.
Why might they do that?
The Democrats understand that the GOP’s fake-repeal bill is doomed to fail. Repealing the individual and employer mandates while keeping Obamacare’s regulatory structure in place will exacerbate the original problems with Obamacare, as CR’s Daniel Horowitz has explained at length.
With their broken promise for full repeal, the Republicans now own whatever disasters befall the American health insurance market.
