Details are still scarce about the shooting this morning at a GOP congressional baseball game practice. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., and several others – including two Capitol Police officers – were shot. But scarcity of details hasn’t stopped some social media pundits from immediately pouncing on the situation for precious political points.
Yes, folks, the old adage never to waste a good crisis still holds true, and the gun-control hot takes – some mixed with a dash of anti-GOP schadenfreude – started before the proverbial smoke had even cleared, even before the identity of the apprehended shooter was made public.

Republicans have no desire to have gun control laws and I'm sure this targeting won't change their mindset either. They'll still be arrogant— Brian Witherspoon (@Spoony29) June 14, 2017
Others were less inclined to immediately politicize this tragedy.
No hot takes, I beg you. Wait.— John Podhoretz (@jpodhoretz) June 14, 2017
No hot takes please; just say a prayer for Scalise and others who were shot— Tim Alberta (@TimAlberta) June 14, 2017

Additionally, in a pair of tweets, David Frum, a senior editor at The Atlantic, grossly mischaracterized firearms laws in Virginia, where the shooting took place.
In view of reports of many, many shots, also worth noting— David Frum (@davidfrum) June 14, 2017
