Three days later, the #SchumerShutdown is over. The Senate voted Monday to reopen the government, after it quickly became apparent that shutting down the government to demand amnesty for illegal immigrants may not have been so smart.
At the end, Democrats caved. They demanded amnesty, but all they got was a promise from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to have a vote on a DACA bill — which was going to happen anyway, sometime before the March deadline to provide legal protections for illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.
Progressive activist organizations are blasting the Democratic Party, accusing Senate Democrats of caving to the Republicans without scoring any progressive victories.
Weird, right? Usually it’s conservatives who complain about the Republican Party not representing us.
Let’s step through the looking glass:

The Democrats cave so much you need a rope, a pickax, and a torch just to see the party platform now.
— Will Greenwald (@AggroWill) January 22, 2018
Lot of people about to realize today how truly spineless the Democratic party is

How the nation sees (and will continue to see) the Democratic Party. pic.twitter.com/10uuMRlQWI

January 22, 2018: Democrats are still spineless the day after millions of people AROUND THE WORLD were in the streets.
— Dante Barry (@dantbarry) January 22, 2018
Hahahah! Conservatives have been burned by the Republican Party for years. How do you like it, progressives?
This is not even about politics. It's about principles. It's sad to see the Democratic Party doesn't even care enough about America to help it when it's down. It just lets Trump Republicans keep kicking at it.
— Heidi N Moore (@moorehn) January 22, 2018
The lack of moral courage among Democrats today is causing Obama alums to leave the Democratic Party.
I left last year after 18 years. @leedsgarcia is one of the smartest, most essential voices in our country.
Today the Democratic Party lost. https://t.co/w9qfcaBvrJ
— Shaun King (@ShaunKing) January 22, 2018
I'm leaving the Democratic Party today.
They're complicit w/ every single young person living in fear. Every pain Latino & immigrant families feel from here out is 100% due to @TheDemocrats not fully embracing us as American. Implicit racism is equally as harmful. I'm done. pic.twitter.com/4mrNaz6rO6

You guys want a wall? Sure!
More "border security" designed to murder desperate people traveling to the US? All yours!
An unclear and vague promise of debating immigration at some point? Sounds good!
This has been Democratic Party Negotiations for January 2018.

truly miraculous that the Democratic party has survived so long without a spine
— Sarah Jones (@onesarahjones) January 22, 2018
Man, these guys are upset.
The Democratic Party is so, so bad at messaging. Just the absolute worst.
— Eric Haywood (@EricHaywood) January 22, 2018
Actually, that’s right. The Democratic Party’s messaging is terrible. They wanted to prioritize illegal immigrants ahead of American citizens, and they shut down the government to do it.
Turns out American citizens don’t like it when one party prioritizes illegals ahead of them.
So what are the progressives gonna do about it?
I really don't think Democrats fully understand how angry their base is, or how hungry it is for change. They'll find out.

I wish every organization putting out a statement hitting the Dems for caving today would actually invest significant resources in Democratic Party primaries.
— Max Berger (@maxberger) January 22, 2018
Hey Republicans: We're going to remember you hurting poor kids and tearing families apart — and replace you with leaders who care.
Hey Democrats: We're going to remember you caving to Trump and his craven party — and replace you with leaders who lead.
— Sally Kohn (@sallykohn) January 22, 2018
Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes. Make our day, Democrats. Campaign on identity politics. Knock off red-state Democratic incumbents like Claire McCaskill, Joe Manchin, or Heidi Heitkamp. Nominate extremists — and then LOSE!
Buckle up, folks. The 2018 midterms are going to be amazing.
P.S. Does Sally Kohn know what “craven” means?
