Dr. Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to President Trump, indicated Tuesday that the Trump administration does not view Russia as a primary national security threat to the United States.
In an interview with CRTV White House correspondent Jon Miller, Dr. Gorka said that the administration has made it clear that Russia is not a top-three security threat to the United States.
“If you listen to the president, if you listen to Gen. McMaster, Rex Tillerson, it’s very clear that Russia is not a primary threat to the United States, even if we may have problems with the way it behaves internationally,” Dr. Gorka said.

Asked what he believes the most serious threats to the United States are, Dr. Gorka answered Iran, North Korea, and radical Islamic terrorism.
“The most serious threats to the United States are, of course, Iran — what it’s doing in flagrant breach of international norms and standards, being a destabilizing force across the Middle East. Also, North Korea, what it did recently, that ballistic missile test, is of course a threat not just to our partners and to our allies, but also to America. And then of course, well, ISIS we’re dealing with very, very aggressively. But the global jihadi menace remains.”
“So I’d put those three at the top, and that’s exactly what the president has been saying,” Dr. Gorka said.
This is in stark contrast with the position of Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate for president who warned in 2012 that Russia is the biggest geopolitical threat facing the United States.
