On patrol in Coral Springs, Fla., a group of dedicated first responders to Hurricane Irma stopped their armored car in the middle of the storm to retrieve an object lying in the road.
The crew of firefighters and trained medics had noticed an American flag lying in the road, tossed and tattered by the wind and the rain, and decided to stop, ABC News reports. The responders captured the touching moment the flag was retrieved on video.
“I just thought at the moment that it would be a disgrace to let that lay on the ground,” said Joseph Schiavo, the man in the video who retrieved the flag.
“Even in the midst of a storm, we are reminded of the love for our country and community. #HurricaneIrma #September11,” reads the caption to the video, posted by the Colorado Springs Police Department.
