Do you live in an illegal alien hotbed? Based on the latest, 2014 Census Bureau data available, Pew Research garnered estimates to determine the 20 metropolitan areas with the highest concentration of illegal aliens in the country. Here are the top five:
New York City
Historic immigrant haven New York City houses approximately 1,150,000 illegal aliens — over 5 percent of the population. And just last month, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that he would “legally challenge any ‘attempt to implement’” President Trump’s executive order to halt federal funding to sanctuary cities that flout federal immigration law,” as Conservative Review reported.
This sanctuary city harbors approximately 1 million illegal aliens. Like New York City, illegal aliens represent around 5 percent of the population in Los Angeles. The City of Angels is also putting up resistance to Trump’s sanctuary cities executive order, with some L.A. police publicly stating that they will not enforce the law. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is asking the federal government for funds to boost their mass transit system for their 2024 Olympic bid.
This Texas city is the adopted home of an estimated 575,000 illegal aliens — a whopping 7 percent of the population. Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has also stated he won’t comply with Trump’s executive order on sanctuary cities, saying “We don’t profile, and we are not going to start profiling people to determine whether they are here illegally.”
A three-hour drive to the north of Houston lies Dallas, the home of an estimated 475,000 illegal aliens — over 6 percent of the population. Just last week, Dallas County commissioners passed a non-binding resolution to welcome illegal aliens into Dallas. (The one Republican on the council voted against the measure.) Dallas hasn’t been a sanctuary city, with the sheriff there complying with federal law. But the resolution passed last week is a step toward sanctuary-city status.
In Miami, an estimated 450,000 illegal aliens comprise over 7 percent of the population. There is a ray of hope in Miami, however. As opposed to the cities above, Miami-Dade County’s Republican mayor, Carlos Gimenez, is making sure Miami complies with federal immigration law.
In addition to these five hotbeds of illegal immigration, the metropolitan areas of Chicago, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Riverside-San Bernardino, and Phoenix comprise the top 10 areas with the highest concentration of illegal aliens. In total, five of the 20 metropolitan areas with the largest illegal immigrant populations are in California, and three are in Texas.
According to Pew Research, illegal immigrants are more concentrated in cities than average Americans: “In 2014, the 20 metro areas with most unauthorized immigrants were home to 6.8 million of them, or 61% of the estimated nationwide total. By contrast, only 36 % of the total U.S. population lived in those metro areas.”
Deportations for illegal residents under President Trump have already begun, much to the chagrin of the Left. What kind of dent will Trump’s deportations make over the next few years in these 20 metropolitan areas?
