Chuck Schumer, you're FULL of it on DACA

Chuck Schumer is full of crap.

The Senate Democratic minority leader wrote an op-ed for CNN Wednesday blaming the uncertain fate of illegal alien DACA recipients, so-called "Dreamers," on President Trump. "You broke DACA, now fix it" he says to Trump. He declares that "President Trump is standing in the way" of Congress reaching a compromise immigration deal that provides a permanent legal status and citizenship for illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. And the piece he wrote is so dishonest, so disingenuous, so disgusting that anyone with two brain cells to rub together will vomit for having read it.

Up-Chuck Schumer begins by lying by omission.

The DACA program allowed young immigrants-- brought to the US as children-- who registered with the government, paid a fee and passed criminal security background checks, to come forward and fully contribute to our country without fear of deportation. The deadline he set is here and we still do not have a solution for these Dreamers, for one simple reason: President Trump is standing in the way.

What Schumer conveniently forgets to say is that President Trump had a constitutional duty to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. President Obama's DACA executive order was unconstitutional. As President Obama himself explained in 2010 before reversing his position during an election year, “I am president, I am not king." Later in 2011, he reiterated “with respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case.”

Sen. Schumer, a legislator, ought to know that under the American constitutional system, Congress must pass laws. The president can't just issue an executive order granting amnesty to illegal immigrants. And so President Trump rescinded DACA and gave Congress six months to pass an immigration law constitutionally. But for Schumer and the Democrats, it's more convenient to ignore that fact and pin a "humanitarian crisis" on Trump.

When President Trump decided to wind down DACA, he set into motion a humanitarian crisis by slowly stripping thousands of Dreamers of their protections under the program as their status expires. Consequently, he asked Congress to work together on legislation that would protect Dreamers by March 5 and promised to treat Dreamers "with heart." Many of us were ready to work with him to get this done.

Sadly, it has become increasingly clear that the President's words were nothing but lip service. President Trump and the White House are not interested in solving this problem—they have so far tried to use Dreamers as bargaining chips to push forward their anti-immigrant agenda.

"This is the opposite of what the American people want," says the Democratic minority leader under a Republican president, who is in the minority because the American people keep rejecting the Democratic Party’s open-borders radicalism at the ballot box.

Schumer likes to point out that 83 percent of Americans support letting illegal immigrants who meet DACA qualifications stay in the country. But what he won't tell you is that majorities of Americans actually favor President Trump's position that immigration should be merit-based, want less than half of our current levels of legal immigration, feel that border security is inadequate, and oppose the diversity visa lottery.

The four pillars of President Trump's DACA compromise address the concerns of a majority of Americans. Trump even upset conservatives by offering the Democrats amnesty with citizenship for nearly two million "Dreamers." But Schumer and his Democratic and RINO cohorts rejected the Trump plan in favor of an unserious and extreme plan to grant amnesty to 12 million illegal immigrants without adequate border security measures.

Schumer knew President Trump would never sign that. He also knew immigration activists would be able to find a friendly court to unconstitutionally kick the deadline to take action on DACA down the road, past the midterm elections. So Schumer gets to hold "Dreamers" hostage during an election year, attacking President Trump for refusing to surrender when in reality he's the one adopting an extreme position for political purposes.

President Trump, the ball is in your court. You broke it, you fix it. We Democrats have repeatedly offered compromise proposals that both sides should be proud of, but you have stood firmly in the way of progress.

Until you change course, the fate of DACA recipients is in your hands. The American people will know exactly who to blame if you prevent Congress from getting this done.
