The Comey memos outline Comey-Clapper-CNN dossier collusion

Collusion found …

CNN needed a “news hook” … The Federalist’s Mollie Hemingway and the Daily Caller’s Chuck Ross each noticed something jaw-dropping in the Comey memos released yesterday. James Comey’s meeting with Donald Trump to discuss the existence of the Fusion GPS Russian dossier was held at the insistence of former Obama administration director of national intelligence James Clapper. Why did Clapper suggest that Comey hold the meeting? Because CNN – which months later would become his employer – needed a “news hook” to talk about the dossier, already in the news organization’s possession. No, this is not a joke.

In mid-March, we learned that Clapper was reportedly CNN’s source for the meeting. Yesterday we found out that the meeting took place at Clapper’s urging, according to Comey, who wrote, “I said there was something that Clapper wanted me to speak to the [president-elect] about alone or in a very small group.”

Not only is CNN selectively reporting facts, it is apparently conspiring to manufacture news events with people the company later rewards with contributor contracts. Is it any wonder why people don’t trust the media?

Of course no “big surprises” … After the Comey memos were released yesterday, the aforementioned Mr. Clapper went on CNN and said he didn’t think “there were any big surprises” in the memos. Of course there were no big surprises to him, because he already knew that he suggested Comey brief Trump so that news organization could report on the salacious and unverified dossier. Watch the interview here. It is a master class in obfuscation.

A different kind of collusion … In a story that reads like it was ripped out of the pages of a spy novel, Politico contributor Peter Kornbluh details how in the mid-1960s, a female ABC journalist used her intimate relationship with Fidel Castro as a way to act as a liason between the White House and Castro. The story of Lisa Howard’s relationship with Castro is a must-read.

Things never change …

PolitOpinion at it again … NewsBusters has busted another PolitiFact “fact-check.” This time it’s about a claim by Scott Walker that his reforms resulted in a low rate of unemployment in Wisconsin. PolitiFact said, “Walker is correct on the two statistics. But his various reforms can only be considered to be a contributing factor, at most, given many factors that affect the state’s economy.” The writers then rated the claim as “half true.”

On a similar claim by Andrew Cuomo, the Democratic governor of New York, PolitiFact rated the claim as “true.” There is no consistency in what the organization deems as fact or not. That’s why the site should change its name to PolitOpinion.

Not biased at all … The HuffPost is mostly an opinion site. Some of its content gets picked up by Yahoo, and that’s where the opinions can lead to problems. A lot of people get their news from Yahoo News, and the site also aggregates content from other sites. What kind of problems can this lead to? How about blatantly biased headlines like this: “Senate confirms climate change denier to lead NASA.”

The URL on the article puts it into the “news” section of Yahoo. That’s not news; it’s biased opinion and should be treated as such.

Todd strikes back … Mediaite reports that NBC’s Chuck Todd appeared on the “The Bernie and Sid Show” radio program and vociferously defended himself against attacks that he is less than forthcoming regarding his wife’s political work for clients Todd sometimes covers. Todd held particular venom for Sean Hannity and Jeff Lord – who has written for Conservative Review. Mediate reported:

“That person who wrote that, did no research,” Todd shot back, clearly referring to Lord. Todd also rebuked claims he didn’t disclose that his wife worked with Bernie Sanders, stating his wife’s business partner worked with the Vermont senator.

While Todd has spoken publicly about his wife’s work, he did not disclose in a 2017 interview with Webb that his wife had previously advised the 2016 candidate.

Todd made the case on Bernie and Sid that his wife’s professional life should not matter to his work as an anchor on NBC.

Todd is actually correct if that work does not financially benefit his family. It clearly does, as did the Sanders work, as his wife has a fiduciary stake in the company. This is Todd whining that he got caught, nothing more.

Bumpin’ …

Today is 4/20, the annual day when potheads around the country walk outside and spark it up. In much of the country, that is no longer illegal on the state level.
