Conservative groups are demanding that Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and the rest of GOP leadership in the Senate step down because of their failure to follow through with a conservative agenda over the past year of full Republican control of the government, Fox News’ Alex Pappas reports.
“We call on all five members of the GOP Senate leadership to step down, or for their caucus to remove them as soon as possible,” said Senate Conservatives Fund president Ken Cuccinelli at a press conference Wednesday.
Cuccinelli was joined by representatives from various Tea Party-affiliated organizations including FreedomWorks, Tea Party Patriots, and For America. These groups have opposed McConnell’s establishment candidates in Republican primaries for years.

“If this was a football team, and you’d lost this many times, you’d start seriously considering firing the coaches,” said David Bozell, the president of For America.
The groups have sent a letter to leader McConnell detailing their complaints against his leadership, including failing to reduce illegal immigration, failing to reduce the size of the federal government, failing to control deficit spending, failing to pass tax reform, and, of course, failing to fully repeal Obamacare, root and branch.
Asked about a replacement for McConnell as majority leader, several representatives revealed there is no consensus pick.
“If I had to pick someone, I’d love to draft like Pat Toomey maybe,” said FreedomWorks president Adam Brandon. “There’s a lot of different people out there who I think could unite this caucus and actually lead on some issues.”
