Deace: Calls for firing Mueller are ‘DUMBASSERY’

On Monday, Christopher Ruddy, the founder of Newsmax Media and “confidant” of President Donald Trump, told PBS News Hour that the president is “considering perhaps” firing special counsel Robert Mueller, the independent prosecutor tasked with investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and alleged collusion with the Trump campaign.

“I think he’s considering perhaps terminating the special counsel. I think he’s weighing that option,” Ruddy said when asked by host Judy Woodruff if President Trump was prepared to let the special counsel pursue the investigation. “I think it’s pretty clear by what one of his lawyers said on television recently.”

The White House has denied that President Trump is considering firing Mueller. Even so, some are calling for Mueller to step aside, and others are encouraging the president to fire Mueller. Conservative Review contributor Steve Deace labeled calls to fire Mueller the “absolutely dumbest dumbassery” in a series of tweets Monday night.

“[M]aking a martyr out of a guy who is the All-American hero story is how you Swiftboat yourself,” Deace wrote.

Firing Mueller would not move the country past the Russian collusion allegations and would simply serve to make denser the cloud of speculation about Russian interference around the White House. Deace explained that the best way for President Trump to move the country forward is to govern well.

Time to get to it.
