In the span of one week, the American media showed us exactly whose side it's on

Seven days after President Donald J. Trump was sworn into office, after one of the most vicious and tumultuous campaigns for the presidency in American history, the president identified his chief opposition. He made comments that the anti-Trump punditry would later pronounce to be a declaration of “war on the free press.”

“I think the media is the opposition party in many ways,” Trump said in an interview with CBN, echoing comments from his then-chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon. “I’m not talking about everybody, but a big portion of the media, the dishonesty, total deceit and deception. It makes them certainly partially the opposition party, absolutely. I think they’re much more capable than the opposition party. The opposition party is losing badly. Now the media is on the opposition party’s side.”

A month later, Trump declared that the “FAKE NEWS media” is not his enemy, but “the enemy of the American people.”

Donald Trump was right. The proof is in the appalling, all-time low behavior of the media every single day last week.

Last Monday, the Trump administration opened the new American embassy in Jerusalem, fulfilling a key campaign promise made by both Democratic and Republican administrations since Congress passed the Jerusalem Embassy Act in 1995. The Palestinian terrorist group Hamas organized an assault on the Gaza border, with the intent to kill or harm as many Israelis as possible, in response. The evil thugs marched with knives, bombs, hatchets, grenades, and Molotov cocktails, using women and children as shields. They wanted Palestinian civilians to die when the Israeli military responded forcefully, because they believed the international media would side with the terrorists and accuse Israel of massacring innocent protesters. And that is exactly how most of the media covered the “protests.”

Through Tuesday, the media was happy to give Hamas exactly what it wanted, defending terrorists to attack Israel and Trump’s decision to keep the promises of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama to move the embassy. The most egregious front page belonged to the New York Daily News, which slapped the headline “Daddy’s Little Ghoul” next to a smiling Ivanka Trump at the opening ceremony of the embassy.

On Wednesday, the media outright lied to attack President Trump after the president at a roundtable on sanctuary cities referred to MS-13 gang members as “animals.” Headlines from NPR, the New York Times, USA Today, and many more outlets falsely claimed Trump called all illegal immigrants “animals.” The slogan of the extremely violent criminal gang is “rape, control, kill.” Gang members’ despicable and depraved crimes range from raping and violently murdering children to beheading, dismembering, and cutting out the hearts of their victims. When confronted with their blatant dishonesty, many journalists refused to acknowledge the misrepresentation, sanctimoniously declaring that MS-13 members are “humans too.”

The same day, a bombshell report appeared in the New York Times confirming that the Obama administration had spied on the Trump campaign, a conclusion LevinTV host Mark Levin reached last year. Up to this point, the media had spent a year calling Levin a “conspiracy theorist” for suggesting that the Trump campaign was surveilled during the 2016 election. Did anybody in the media apologize for its negligent coverage? Of course not. By Friday, both the New York Times and the Washington Post  were spinning the report to show how Trump’s presidential campaign being spied on by a government controlled by the opposition party during an election was actually a good thing.

Friday brought the atrocity of the school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas. Ten people were murdered. Throughout the day, unconfirmed rumors about the shooting were picked up by an all-too-eager national media. The local media in Houston stepped up to distinguish fact from rumor. As part of KHOU’s admirable reporting, the station debunked a false narrative spread by CNN that misleadingly exaggerated the number of school shootings this year by lumping in shooting incidents like the attack in Santa Fe with a BB gun hitting a school bus, suicides, and gang violence. The local journalists, in other words, acted as journalists — reviewing the facts, dispelling rumors, and seeking to report the truth. CNN misled Americans to score political points.

And so here we are. In the span of one week, the American media sided with terrorists, gangsters, and corrupt government officials and spun narratives to oppose our border security and the natural right of Americans to keep and bear arms. When the media obscures fact with propaganda, it does not tell the truth. When the media lies to smear a president, it is not objective. When the media covers up and makes excuse for government abuses, it does not hold the powerful accountable. When the media advances partisan narratives, it takes sides.

And when the media takes a side opposed to truth, justice, and natural rights, it becomes the enemy of the people.
