Judge Roy Moore is having a great week

U.S. Senate candidate Alabama Judge Roy Moore is having a fantastic week.

Despite millions of dollars poured into Alabama by the establishment allies of Senator Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., despite vicious attack ads, the “Ten Commandments judge” looks to be coasting to victory in the special election Republican primary for Jeff Sessions’ seat.

The latest polling gives Moore a commanding double-digit lead over his primary opponent, appointed incumbent Senator Luther Strange, R-Ala. Moore already beat Strange once in the August primary, triggering a runoff election. With two and a half weeks left until the September 26 runoff election day, Moore leads Strange 52 percent to 36 percent, according to Montgomery polling firm Southeast Research.

The poll shows conservative voters strongly favor Moore, 58 percent over Strange’s 32 percent. On top of this good news, Moore picked up the endorsements of several key conservatives this week.

On Tuesday, the Senate Conservatives Fund endorsed Moore.

“I’m proud to announce the Senate Conservatives Fund’s endorsement of Judge Roy Moore in Alabama’s special election for U.S. Senate,” SCF president Ken Cuccinelli wrote. “After collecting feedback from our supporters in Alabama and across the nation last week, an overwhelming 97% said they thought we should endorse Roy Moore in the primary election runoff.”

“Roy Moore is a proven conservative leader who will fight to cut spending, reform our nation’s tax system, secure our borders, defund Planned Parenthood, and fully repeal Obamacare,” he continued. “Like President Trump, Roy Moore is a political outsider who isn’t afraid to stand up to the liberals in his own party to get results for all Americans. Unlike so many Republicans who break their promises after they are elected, Roy Moore is someone we can count on.”

On Wednesday, Moore scored the endorsement of the Freedom Caucus chairman, Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C.

"I am proud to endorse Judge Roy Moore for the U.S. Senate. The people of Alabama are seeing millions of dollars in false advertising flow into their state," Meadows said. "From what I know about the people of Alabama, their vote is NOT for sale. They want a strong man — a principled conservative — to send a clear message to Washington, D.C."

At the same time, the U.S. Chamber of Crony Capitalism buffed Moore’s anti-establishment credibility by endorsing his opponent, Luther Strange.

These key endorsements, these commanding leads in the polls point to one thing: Roy Moore’s message is resonating.

And what is that message? What is the theme of Roy Moore’s Senate campaign? It is an unashamed defense of principles and the Judeo-Christian heritage that made America great, despite the hatred and scorn he may receive for it.

Roy Moore earned the “Ten Commandments judge” moniker when he was ousted from the Alabama Supreme Court in 2003 after installing a Ten Commandments display and refusing to remove it. “To restore morality, we must first recognize the source from which all morality springs,” Moore said at the installation ceremony in 2001. "From our earliest history in 1776 when we were declared to be the United States of America, our forefathers recognized the sovereignty of God."

When he ran again for Alabama chief justice in 2012, he was reelected. He was again suspended from the court in 2016 for taking a principled stand in defense of morality, refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. When he announced his campaign for Senate, he made his beliefs perfectly clear.

“The foundations of the fabric of our country are being shaken tremendously,” Moore said outside the Alabama state capitol. “Our families are being crippled by divorce and abortion. Our sacred institution of marriage has been destroyed by the Supreme Court, and our rights and liberties are in jeopardy.”

“As United States senator, I will continue to stand for the rights and liberties not only of this state, but of its people as well," he added. “I will defend those rights and liberties under the Constitution of the United States, so help me God.”

In opposition to a political establishment that would love to see these principles forgotten and abandoned, the conservatives of Alabama are with Judge Moore. They want principle over politics. And right now, in Alabama, principle is winning.
