Latest Mueller reports cast light on Democrat-Russian collusion

As reports continue to emerge about the investigation into alleged collusion between President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian agents led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, it is Clinton-connected Democrats, not President Trump, who seem to be entangled in under-the-table dealings with the Russians.

This time, it is Tony Podesta, the brother of Hillary Clinton campaign chief John Podesta, who has been implicated in potentially illegal activities with pro-Russian foreign agents.

According to a NBC News report, Tony Podesta and his Democratic lobbying firm the Podesta Group are now under investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. The Podesta group was apparently involved with a promotional campaign for the European Centre for a Modern Ukraine (ECMU) organized by former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, whom is also under investigation.  The ECMU worked to promote Ukraine’s image in the West and was backed by the Party of Regions, a “pro-Russian and oligarch funded Ukrainian political party for which Manafort worked as a consultant, and which paid his firm millions,” NBC reports.

The investigation into Tony Podesta is now a criminal inquiry into whether the Podesta Group violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) by willfully failing to disclose their lobbying work on behalf of the ECMU. The Podesta Group only filed FARA forms after reports of their lobbying on behalf of a foreign political party were reported by the media.

This story comes on the heels of last week’s report that the FBI was investigating Russian bribes leading up to the Obama administration’s approval of a deal handing control of a significant portion of U.S. Uranium over to the Russians. Investigators took a hard look at millions of dollars in payments made to the Clinton Foundation while Hillary Clinton was serving as Secretary of State. Clinton’s State Department was instrumental in approving the uranium deal.

Meanwhile, a third report from The Hill published Sunday details how the FBI was aware of “multiple arms of Vladimir Putin’s machine” seeking access to the Clinton State Department, Bill Clinton, and “various members of their inner circle” in the early days of the Obama administration. The FBI tracked and intercepted a Russian spy who had posed as an American accountant, using a false identity to get close to a major Democratic donor and gain intelligence on Clinton’s State Department.

At every turn, it seems there is clear evidence of Clinton associates being wrapped up in Russian schemes while Mueller’s investigation has yet to produce solid evidence that President Trump worked with the Russians to beat Hillary Clinton in 2016.

But will you hear about that on the cable TV news? Don’t hold your breath.
