Levin: 'What the Democrats are hoping is you don't understand any of this'

Thursday on the radio, LevinTV host Mark Levin ripped into the New York Times and the Washington Post for stirring the pot on the Mueller report and suggesting the confidential report is being withheld from the public in order to misrepresent the facts.

Levin pointed out that if Attorney General William Barr's letter to Congress was misleading, Mueller or his office would have put out a statement saying so, as they did in the BuzzFeed case. He also read a statement from the Justice Department on Thursday, which said, "Every page of the 'confidential report' provided to Attorney General Barr on March 22 was marked 'May Contain Material Protected Under Federal Rule Criminal 6E,' a law that protects confidential grand jury information, and therefore it could not be publicly released."

"What the Democrats are hoping is you don't understand any of this. What they want you to believe this is a cover-up," Levin said.

Listen:

"Mr. Barr's letter was a preliminary letter; he said so. What's happening here, ladies and gentlemen, is there's an effort now to rewrite — to rewrite the report, to put spin on this report. And where to go but the New York Times and the Washington Post to do it?" Levin said.

"The New York Times and the Washington Post aren't happy. They have invested enormous resources, their reporters have put their reputations on the line, to catch this president on collusion, to catch this president on obstruction. And they will hang on any prosecutor or investigator — without attribution, of course — who's disgruntled, who's a malcontent, who complains about what's taking place.

"But I'll tell you something: depending on what's released, this report is a two-edged sword for the Democrats and the Left. ... Because I suspect by the time you're done reading whatever it is that's made available, you're also going to want to know a hell of a lot more about how this investigation got started in the first place. About who's behind this. ... I suspect you and I — forget about the Post and the Times — we're going to have a lot of questions, questions they won't like. And if I were Attorney General Barr at this point, seeing how he's under attack for doing his job, seeing the spin that's taking place, I would be much more interested than ever before in getting to the bottom of this and appointing a special counsel."
