First lady Melania Trump spoke about her parenting and the important lessons she teaches her son, Barron, at a Liberty University town hall on America’s opioid crisis Wednesday.

Trump said she wanted to educate the next generation on the dangers of drug use. “I am here to shine the light and to talk about it, and I hope we could end this terrible epidemic that is going on in the United States,” she said.

Mrs. Trump shared the stage with CRTV host Eric Bolling, whose own son, Chase, tragically died of an accidental opioid overdose. Bolling asked if she discusses drugs with Barron.

“I teach him what is right, what is wrong, and I will always tell him that drugs, they could be very dangerous and they could mess up your mind and body,” Trump said. She added that she tells him to “love yourself more than you love drugs.”

Bolling asked how Barron responds to his mother’s warnings. “He is very aware, and I hope he follows what I teach him,” Trump said.

Bolling also asked about Trump’s campaign against cyber-bullying and how she oversees Barron’s social media use as a parent. “He doesn’t have social media yet; he’s not interested in it,” Trump said. “He’s all into sports, so he’s a great athlete. I teach him to be responsible and treat people with respect and kindness, and that’s very important for me.”

First lady Melania Trump’s “Be Best” initiative focuses on children’s’ well-being, social media use, and opioid abuse. Its goal is to encourage children to “BE BEST in their individual paths, while also teaching them the importance of social, emotional, and physical health.”
