On Friday, Senate candidate and Missouri Republican Attorney General Josh Hawley blasted Senate Democrats and his opponent, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., in an interview on Fox News following the vote to advance Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.
“To see Sen. McCaskill vote ‘no’ this morning to advance the nomination is extremely disappointing but, I have to say, typical, because she’s been part of this smear campaign from the beginning,” Hawley said.
Hawley said his rising poll numbers reflect how voters see the Democrats’ transparent efforts to “seize power” and nullify Trump’s presidency.
“That’s ultimately what this is about. It’s about denying the people’s choice in 2016,” Hawley said.
Asked what would happen if Kavanaugh were defeated this weekend, Hawley answered that voters would be “extremely angry.”
“They are furious, Bill, at this process,” Hawley explained. “They are furious that this was turned into a circus. It is a disgrace to the United States Senate. The behavior of these Senate Democrats … deliberately turning this process into a circus to smear Judge Kavanaugh and to harm Dr. Ford — they don’t care about the truth. They don’t care about Dr. Ford, these Democrats don’t. They just want power.”
