A Vermont newspaper, the Bennington Banner, is apologizing for publishing an upsetting cartoon depicting the massacre in Las Vegas to advocate for gun control.
The cartoon by Randall Enos shows bodies lying in a pile with the words “Whatever Happens in Vegas.”

After receiving some backlash, the Bennington Bannerissued an apology, indicating the cartoon was “insulting and in bad taste,” while claiming the decision to publish it was “made in haste.”
In a statement made to WNYT-TV, the paper expanded on its decision to publish the cartoon, explaining they wanted to advocate for gun control measures.
“Our interpretation of Randall Enos' cartoon was that little would be done with regard to gun control measures in the United States even after such an unprecedented tragedy. While we believe that is a conversation that needs to happen in this country, we must first mourn and honor the victims and provide comfort to their families and friends,” the paper said.
