Yesterday, the Thought Gestapo over at Media Matters got one of its biggest whales. After a years-long crusade, David Brock’s 1984-style thought police finally got Jeffrey Lord — who also writes for Conservative Review — fired as a commentator at CNN. What was the thought crime that got Lord fired? Lord had the temerity to fight back.
Lord published an article at the American Spectator highlighting the fascist lengths to which Media Matters goes to stifle speech outside what the organization deems correct and right. Then this Twitter exchange ensued.

Lord was obviously using sarcasm toward someone who uses Gestapo-style tactics to silence dissent. The “Sieg Heil” was not an “Alt-Right” “dog whistle,” as those on the Left would have you believe. It was a clear attempt at sarcasm to say, in effect, jawohl, I will fall in line, master. Anyone who took it otherwise has half a brain. Enter CNN.
CNN caved to pressure from Media Matters and fired Lord.
CNN severed ties with Jeffrey Lord on Thursday, hours after he ignited controversy by tweeting the words “Sieg Heil!” at a prominent liberal activist.
“Nazi salutes are indefensible,” a CNN spokesperson said in a statement. “Jeffrey Lord is no longer with the network.”
Lord said his tweet was misunderstood. He said he was mocking fascists, not acting like one.
“I love CNN, but I feel they are caving to bullies here,” he said in a telephone interview shortly after the network’s decision was announced.
Lord’s longtime friend from the Reagan administration, CR Editor-in-Chief Mark Levin, jumped to Lord’s defense after the firing.
CNN is truly a farce & a joke. I’ve known Jeff Lord for decades. He’s a thoroughly decent & thoughtful person…. https://t.co/IMPXFDGVii

Lord’s scalping is part of a calculated effort by David Brock’s allied organizations to silence conservative voices and win elections. The Washington Free Beacon obtained and published an internal document outlining how Brock intends to do this. The document was published in January 2017.
The document outlines how four interconnected non-profits are working, often with the mainstream media, to undermine not only Trump’s presidency but conservative thought and action in general. Their goals?
We are going to contest every effort, at every level of government, to limit rights, rescind protections, entrench inequality, redistribute wealth upwards, or in any other way fundamentally undermine the tenets of egalitarianism that must serve as the bedrock of our democracy.
Later in the document it is explicitly stated that “the right is aggressively exploiting vulnerabilities and finding new ways to poison the information ecosystem with lies. Media Matters is ready to stop them.”
Media Matters is not content merely with presenting differing views in the marketplace of ideas that compete for the hearts and minds of Americans. No, it is set upon the absolute destruction — politically, professionally, and personally — of anyone who differs from its worldview. That is its ultimate goal.
With 34 Republican governors, a majority of the United States Senate, control of the House of Representatives, and full legislative control of 32 state legislatures, it is clear that the American people have voted for right-of-center candidates overwhelmingly over the last decade. Progressivism loses at the ballot box.
Rather than trying to win the hearts and minds of the American people honestly, leftists have resorted to fascist-style tactics. It is their goal not to educate, but to indoctrinate the American people, using their media allies. Their goal is to demonize thought and those espousing that thought that differs from theirs. Media Matters will not be happy until there are no conservative voices in the public realm.
Even Brian Stelter, CNN’s Resistance-friendly “media critic”/ cheerleader admitted that Lord was a better than average advocate for conservative principles on CNN.
Lord, a former Reagan administration staffer, had been one of CNN’s best-known commentators. He was the first explicitly pro-Donald Trump commentator to join the network, back in August 2015, two months after Trump entered the GOP primary race. At the time Lord was a counterweight to CNN’s other conservative commentators, who were all dismissive of Trump’s candidacy.
Other pro-Trump voices joined the network later. But Lord always stood out from the pack — for his interpretations of history and his intense exchanges with commentators like Van Jones on “Anderson Cooper 360” and other programs.
CNN, which pretends to be a neutral voice, did not stand up to the bullying tactics of the Left. The network turned a blind eye to the fact that Lord was mocking the fascist tactics meant to thwart free speech. By not standing up for Lord, CNN showed it is a willing participant in the “Resistance.”
Then they came for Jeffrey Lord. And I was not Jeffrey Lord, but I am speaking up. And so should you.
