Obama ignores law on refugee resettlement

Oh, I forgot to mention, we just resettled scores of Syrian refugees in your community, some of whom will hate your values and almost none of whom will share them.

That is essentially the message Obama just sent to Texas.

According to state Attorney General Ken Paxton, in yet another lawless act of this administration, “[L]ast weekend the federal government settled refugees with no advance notice, in complete violation of a court’s directive, and were scheduled to bring more refugees to Texas without providing adequate information about who they are.”

While the district judge did uphold the supremacy of the federal government over refugee policy, the court had to acknowledge the plain language of the refugee law, which requires the executive branch to engage in “advance consultation with State and local governments” at every stage of the resettlement process [§412 Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1522].

Unfortunately, Republicans have surrendered the budget for the remainder of the fiscal year and have no leverage against this lawlessness. Is it too much to ask that Republicans suspend all confirmation of Obama judges until he begins to follow the law on refugees?
