It was back in 2015 that the Southern Poverty Law Center put Ben Carson on its “Extremist Watch List” because he, a world famous neurosurgeon, was crazy enough to think men are men and women are women and marriage is a thing that combines just one of each.
By now you aren’t surprised by such things. This is what spirit-of-the-age progressivism does. It is terraforming an entire culture, which requires the kind of destruction that takes what were formerly the best sort of success stories and assassinates them before anyone else can be inspired any further.
But when you then learn that a place like the SPLC — which was allegedly founded in 1971 to battle racial inequality — is now being confronted with what several accusers call its own “systemic culture of racism and sexism within its workplace,” you might indeed be depressed.
The SPLC fired co-founder Morris Dees a few weeks ago and began a workplace investigation, while acknowledging nothing more than that Dees had previously been disciplined after a prior investigation into “inappropriate conduct.” So while he was virtue-signaling to try to destroy Ben Carson’s life, he was living his own life in a rancid sewer.
My buddy Ryan Mauro with the Clarion Project laid out the case on Twitter this week. Dees was accused by his stepdaughter of molesting her. He was accused of physical spousal abuse and demanding an open marriage with his ex-wife. He was accused of having a sexual relationship with his son’s girlfriend. And on and on and on.
Dees is Caligula. Yet he lived in an environment where he could not only get away with it for decades, but he didn’t even have to be inconspicuous about it. He could aim hip shots at innocent men like Ben Carson and just keep on trucking.
“SPLC’s misleading labeling of myself and others has done permanent damage to our lives,” Mauro said via Twitter. “News sites, etc. regularly refer to SPLC’s slander in its reporting. And it stays on the Internet forever, inevitably found by potential employers, friends, dates, biz partners and reporters. EVERY outlet covering SPLC scandals is obligated to stop referencing this ‘non-profit’ like an unquestionable authority. If you’re a reporter, why did it take massive upheaval to get your attention? Why did you miss this for so damn long?”
Character assassination wasn’t even enough for these fraudulent fiends. They inspired an actual assassination attempt at the offices of the Family Research Council a few years ago. They were Floyd Lee Corkins’ muse in a near tragedy that resulted in the first domestic terror conviction in the history of Washington, D.C.
You know a tree, even a rotten one, by its fruit. Spirit-of-the-age progressivism is iconoclastic by nature. All of it is trying to destroy the good, the true, and the beautiful, and it does so largely to normalize the blight in its own life.
The darkness will always accuse the light of doing and being what it actually does and is. Dees and the SPLC are living proof. It turns out, if they really wanted to know what man’s inhumanity to man looks like, they only had to take a look in the mirror.
