Sessions, Cruz: Obama hiding immigration status of terrorists

There is a false narrative circulating in Washington that no refugee has ever become a terrorist.  Obviously, this is a flagrant absurdity as a number of individuals caught fighting for ISIS or planning/perpetrating terror attacks in recent years have been refugees, as detailed by the UK Daily Mirror.  But the broader problem is that the media and the administration obfuscate the immigration history of the perpetrators of many of these attempted or successfully implemented attacks.

In August, we reported that Sens. Sessions and Cruz sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, and Secretary of State John Kerry requesting them to fill out a work sheet detailing the immigration history of the families of 72 Islamic terrorists who were either arrested for plotting, or died in attempting, terror attacks.

What Obama is covering up, and what most other Republicans have no interest in discovering, is the extent of the homegrown terror threat we face—over and beyond the fear of ISIS infiltration from Syria.

We must remember that many of those charged with terrorism who are reported in the media as citizens—to the extent the media even makes the Islamic connection—are foreign-born migrants who came in as refugees, or legal permanent residents, and gained citizenship status.  A number of others are the children of refugees or migrants.  But even members of Congress are never privy to the culprits’ complete immigration history in order to understand why they were admitted into the country originally.  To this day, we still don’t have all the facts on the Chattanooga shooter or the UC Merced stabber.  We don’t know the history of the 40 Somalis from Minneapolis who fought for foreign terror groups, other than the fact that, in general, most Somalis were admitted through the refugee program.

Well, Sessions and Cruz have an update for the public on the status of their inquiry:

More than three months later the Administration has not provided immigration details on a single one of the 72. It is quite telling that this Administration – which seems to have unlimited resources to circumvent our immigration laws and further its executive amnesties – cannot find the time or resources to provide timely answers to these simple questions. Moreover, after this past weekend’s barbaric attacks in Paris, the Administration’s continued insistence on pursuing the massive resettlement of countless individuals from unstable areas of the world reveals a flagrant disregard for the safety and security of the American people. In just the last year, refugees and other migrants admitted to the U.S. from Bosnia, Somalia, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Ghana, Kuwait and Bangladesh have been implicated in terrorist activity.

What Obama is covering up, and what most other Republicans have no interest in discovering, is the extent of the homegrown terror threat we face—over and beyond the fear of ISIS infiltration from Syria.  This is a ubiquitous problem in all aspects of our immigration system from all parts of the world.

Obama’s silence on this issue alone should speak even louder than his petulant comments in defense of radical Islam. Taken together, the GOP can now safely disabuse itself of any notion that this administration will “vet” the immigrants coming from the Islamic world.
