Several top Democrat staffers just lost their jobs so the party could push ‘diversity’

Several top staffers at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, House Democrats' main campaign arm, are now out of jobs because of complaints from the Left that the committee wasn't diverse enough.

Here's how Politico breaks it down: First, the DCCC's now-former executive director, Allison Jaslow, "resigned during a tense meeting at the party’s Capitol Hill headquarters" on Monday morning; then more heads started to roll.

By the end of the day, the campaign arm had lost not only its executive director, but its communications director, a top communications aide, its political director, its deputy executive director, and its director of diversity.

In the interim, the committee's COO, Jacqui Newman, has stepped in as acting executive director to both lead the remaining staff and help search for a permanent replacement.

“Today has been a sobering day filled with tough conversations that too often we avoid," Committee Chair Cheri Bustos, D-Ill., said. "But I can say confidently that we are taking the first steps toward putting the DCCC back on path to protect and expand our majority, with a staff that truly reflects the diversity of our Democratic caucus and our party."

The staff shuffle was in response to complaints from high-ranking Democratic lawmakers that Bustos and her team hadn't done enough to foster a diverse enough workforce. On Friday, Jaslow reportedly cried at a heated meeting at headquarters while taking responsibility for the matter. Bustos even had to make an emergency trip to her district over fallout from the complaints.

"The DCCC is now in complete chaos," Texas Democrats Vicente Gonzalez and Filemon Vela said in a joint statement Sunday. "The single most immediate action that Cheri Bustos can take to restore confidence in the organization and to promote diversity is to appoint a qualified person of color, of which there are many, as executive director at once."

It would appear that Gonzalez, Vela, and those in their camp are now going to get their wish.
