Ted Cruz: Americans deserve to know Iran deal’s ‘hidden’ details

Sen. Ted Cruz, R- Texas (A, 97%) is encouraging the Trump administration to uncover the Obama White House’s secret dealings — as part of the former president’s nuclear agreement — with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“The Iran nuclear deal was a catastrophic failure. I believe it weakened and endangered America, and will only serve to facilitate Iran acquiring a nuclear weapon,” Senator Cruz said at a reporters’ roundtable on the sidelines of the Conservative Political Action Conference Thursday.

He added: “Many of the details of that agreement were hidden by the Obama administration because they were indefensible.”

Many of the negotiations’ details in the run-up to the Iran deal are largely unknown to the public. As part of the deal, the Obama administration allegedly unloaded an estimated $150 billion to the Iranian regime, which it could use to empower its terror proxies.

Iran is recognized by the U.S. government as the world’s foremost state sponsor of terrorism. The Iranian regime arms and funds terrorist groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis in Yemen, and many other jihadi outfits.

“I very much hope the Trump administration releases those details to the public,” Sen. Cruz said at CPAC. “The public deserves to know what’s in this deal to be able to assess just how lousy a deal this is.”

“There have been press reports that Obama holdovers who do not want the details of the Iran deal made public were behind the illegal and criminal leaks targeting [Lt. Gen Michael] Flynn … It’s a question of keeping this country safe,” Cruz added.

A report surfaced in the Washington Free Beacon last week detailing the effort by Obama holdovers in the White House to sabotage former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The report argued that Flynn (who served as President Obama’s Defense Intelligence Agency chief) was aware of the secret agreements made on the sidelines of the Iran deal, and that the Obama loyalists waged a campaign to oust him because they were afraid Flynn would release the sensitive Iran information.

“The Iran deal was explicitly sold to the American people based on lies,” Cruz said. “It was such a bad deal for America. The only way to sell it was to lie about it.”
