You have heard me say often that the only thing with the power to turn our culture around is revival. That same culture may be full of luxuries and comforts that allow us to ignore or minimize such a fundamental truth at times, but then a weekend of stories comes along to leave absolutely no doubt about our current place in the universe.

Lost. Depraved. Deserving of the abyss. What a stench we leave behind as we rot beyond recognition.

1) What’s the answer to the question, “What’s worse than Brett Kavanaugh?” Well, whatever it is, it apparently isn’t kidnapping, torture, rape, and murder. That’s according to a writer for Jimmy Kimmel, who is so disturbed by the jurist’s nomination for the U.S. Supreme Court that she tweeted, “The Federalist Society is currently a bigger threat to the basic safety of Americans than MS-13.”

Yes, the conservative Washington, D.C., think tank that plays a significant role in recommending judges has been deemed a more clear and present danger by the progressive mind than thugs who on any given day might make jihadists blush. So let’s test that theory.

How about Kimmel and company book Kavanaugh on the show one night and a few of the fellas from MS-13 the next? From which guests will he have armed guards standing by to protect him, after he makes jokes about how the Second Amendment should be repealed? Good times.

2) A German medical student was recently allowed a TEDx forum to share her belief that pedophilia is a natural sexual orientation. Hard to stop that “love is love” train once it picks up some steam, ain’t it?

One day you’re being told "bake the cake, bigot." Then, just a few short years later, you know the answer to that question: You might just be a bigot if you don’t sympathize with a grown man who thinks your kindergartner is hot.

I guess you’ll just have to call me crazy, then, that when progressives cry their crocodile tears over the separation of detained illegal immigrant families, I simply don’t believe them. It's hard to value children by preying on them, which brings me to my next sad example.

3) Planned Parenthood of New York City, not content with the tax money it is already stealing from you to kill babies, has begun a fundraising campaign with the slogan “Protect our right to safely f*** whoever the f*** we want.”

Well, I guess that’s more honest than “safe, legal, and rare” or “reproductive rights,” and pretty much sounds exactly what a hoard of baby killers might say. Let’s just call it the crazy pagan sex cult it actually is, then, and remember that when we talk about repealing Roe v. Wade, we are talking about putting a sock in the mouths of fools like this.

4) Spain's beauty queen is a transgender activist who, along with getting a spot in the Miss Universe pageant, visits schoolchildren with the message: “There are women with a penis and men with a vagina, because the only key part of being a woman is to be and feel like a woman.”

To which a sharp young girl in the class might respond to the demented soul before her: “Well, if it’s feelings we’re talking about, then I feel like you are a man. And I feel like you scare the hell out of me. So I feel like you should take a long walk off a short pier straight out of my legitimate safe space, and take my teacher with you while you are at it for serving me this helping of witchcraft. Because feelings. Don’t judge.”

Sigh.

This was the news from one weekend, folks. One. We are surrounded by locusts on all sides, and they are devouring everything in their path.

Theoden ultimately had to die in order to turn back the evil that was surrounding him. Would that our hour turns out not to be so late and that we turn out not to be the sort of cowards who don’t care enough to avoid passing such an hour on to our children.

We must, said Aragorn, ride out and meet them. We must fight them with spirit and with truth. And we must win.
