Truth bomb: Some Republican lawmakers have a lower Liberty Score than ... Kamala Harris

With Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., grabbing headlines this week by running for president on an extreme leftist platform, BlazeTV host Steve Deace thought it would be fun to play a game using the Conservative Review Liberty Score.

In the "Truth Bombs" segment of his Wednesday show, Deace compared Harris' Liberty Score to several elected Republicans' scores, asking a simple question: Does this Republican have a higher score than Kamala Harris? The answers might shock you.

Here's a refresher on how the Liberty Score works:

Conservative Review’s Liberty Score grades members of Congress on the top 50 votes over a rolling six-year term. What decides what makes a top 50 vote? Principles such as limited government, free markets, traditional family values, individual freedom, the rule of law, and a strong national defense are at the core of Conservative Review’s principles. The rolling six-year window is a more accurate picture of a lawmaker’s performance than traditional one- or two-year scoring methods. Scores are determined by points earned divided by potential points. Voting with the conservative position earns one point; voting against the conservative position earns nothing. Missed votes are not included in a member’s score. A letter grade is assigned to members based on how they voted and if they voted with the conservative position.

The Liberty Score  is a tool to help voters determine whether politicians who make promises to conservatives to cut spending, protect the unborn, or limit government are keeping those promises in office by how they vote. It is not a measure of how conservative politicians claim to be or the ideas they say they believe in. It is a review of their actions as federal lawmakers.

Here are the Republicans Deace used and their scores:

  • Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, F-10%
  • Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., F-15%
  • Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., F-26%
  • Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., F-28%
  • Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., F-29%
  • Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, F-33%
  • Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., F-34%

President Ronald Reagan once said, "My 80 percent friend is not my 20 percent enemy." Well, fellow conservatives, what does that make these Republicans, who won't take the conservative position on the top votes in Congress even half the time?

And as for Kamala Harris? She has an F-21% Liberty Score. Look at those Republican scores again and let that sink in.
