Alleged moderate Senator Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is going around on cable news Wednesday morning criticizing his fellow Democrats for refusing to stand during President Trump’s State of the Union address.

“I was very, very upset when I saw the Republicans never, ever stood up with Barack Obama, and there was things I didn’t agree about President Obama in his speech,” Manchin said on MSNBC, according to a report from the Washington Examiner.

“But I was taught in West Virginia there’s a little bit of respect, and you should show that. And I did that then, and I did it last night,” he added.

“I think the Democrats were wrong in not showing respect,” Manchin said. “That’s just me.”

Manchin is facing a tough re-election in a state President Trump won handily, so it makes sense that he would seek to bolster his moderate credentials by defending the president.

There’s just one problem. When the going gets tough, Manchin is a party man, through and through. Here’s video evidence:

Sen. Manchin wants to stand for something Trump said, but the sight of rest of the Democrats sitting shuts him down. And check out how Democrat minority leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., glares at him.

Expect Republicans to turn this moment into a campaign ad that will be played ad nauseum in West Virginia.
