Vote Alert: Ban Sex-Selective Abortions

CR Liberty Score Update

This bill would have imposed criminal penalties on those who perform an abortion based exclusively upon the gender of the baby. Aborting a baby because one does not like the sex is a barbaric practice. These abortions most often occur during the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, when the baby is viable and capable of feeling pain. Moreover, in a society where we value life, liberty, and equal opportunity for everyone, there is no reason that such discriminatory behavior should be exhibited to the most vulnerable among us. This vote failed to reach the 2/3 majority needed in the House to pass on May 31, 2012 in a roll call vote of 246-168.
