Vote Alert: Expand Offshore Drilling

Since the BP oil spill the Obama Administration has used the accident as an excuse to curtail all offshore energy exploration. As a result thousands of jobs have been lost and America's dependence on foreign oil has increased. This legislation would have overturned the moratorium on offshore energy exploration and allow governors to request leases be made in areas that reside in their jurisdiction. At a time when our nation's economy is stalled, facilitating energy exploration would create thousands of jobs and lower energy prices to allow for more private investment. While this bill passed the House 243 – 179 on May 12, 2011, it received no further action and died in the Senate.
