Disney and Fox … A Disney/Fox deal had been the subject of rumors for the past few weeks. The full deal was announced today. Readers asked this morning whether Disney would get Fox News as part of the deal. That is not happening. I answered that question and more this morning at Conservative Review.
Reunited with News Corp? … In 2013, News Corp. split Fox off from its core publishing properties, resulting in a new News Corp (sans period) and the 21st Century Fox Corporation. News Corp is the home to newspapers such as the NY Post and the Wall Street Journal. With the focus of the “new Fox” on news and sports, there has been increased chatter that News Corp will reacquire those parts of Fox not being sold to Disney. This makes sense in that there is significant overlap in the news-gathering infrastructure of both companies.
Tavis Smiley suspendend … Another day, another media personality is suspended from a media network. Yesterday it was Tavis Smiley. PBS suspended the host of the eponymous “Tavis Smiley Show” amidst sexual misconduct accusations. As I said, when Time named the #metoo movement as its “person of the year,” there has been no story this year that has affected more areas of society than the avalanche of women and men coming forward to detail sexual misconduct by the powerful. Smiley is unrepentant and has promised to “fight back.”

Rather to the Young Turks? … Dan Rather was outed as a partisan when he was fired from CBS News after misreporting a memo regarding then-President George W. Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard. The firing was one of the first major victories for conservative bloggers, as it was the team at Powerline Blog who proved that the memo was not authentic. That hasn’t stopped Rather from working in media and being held up as a moral authority by his fellow members of the mainstream media. It seems that now, Rather may have found his true home. There are reports that Rather is in discussions with The Young Turks, a progressive video commentary organization, for a television show. It seems that finally Rather may be able to fully let his leftist bias fly.
Bravo, Washington Post … As most of the media was in awe of ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel bringing his son on television to make an impassioned — yet devoid of facts — plea for the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), the Washington Post fact-check team actually set the record straight. I often chide fact-checkers for bringing opinion into the fact-check process. This time they didn’t. It is a fair look at why Kimmel was misleading.
A Pulitzer for Greenwald? … Tablet magazine’s Lee Smith wrote a thought-provoking essay on why he believes the Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald deserves a Pulitzer Prize. Smith’s argument is that given the mainstream media’s lapdog stenography of leaks from anti-Trump government employees about the supposed “Trump Russian collusion” during the 2016 election, Greenwald has been standing up and exposing the shoddy reporting. Smith says he is not a fan of Greenwald, especially Greenwald’s attacks on Israel. That being said, Smith makes a compelling case that is a good, if long, read.
I can’t fight back alone against the mainstream media. I need your help. There are two ways you can help. First, send your friends – and even your enemies – over to the WTF MSM!? email signup page. Second, email me at [email protected] with anything questionable you see the media do. Together, we can fight back.
