A proletariat uprising for Christmas … We talk often about the media being leftists. Their open disdain for conservatism is readily apparent in the way they cover politics. But rarely do you catch a member of the media going full communist. That’s what makes this so amazing. Last week, BuzzFeed UK science editor Kelly Oakes tweeted: “All I want for Christmas is full communism now.” The backlash was severe. This is the second time in recent months that someone at BuzzFeed went full communism. In November, BuzzFeed’s Blake Montgomery had to apologize for praising communism. In his apology, Montgomery said: “I didn’t mean in any way to diminish the many real victims of communism.”
It’s your fault North Koreans are starving … In an opinion piece for the New York Times, Harvard Medical School global surgery scholar Kee B. Park argues that the United States is responsible for the starving of North Korean citizens. That’s right, it’s not the regime that keeps food from the people, it is the evil United States government. He argues that the U.S.-led sanction regime is what is starving the citizens. Straight-up propaganda published in the Times. But would we expect anything else from the organization that employed the founding father of fake news, Walter Duranty, who was nothing more than a Soviet propagandist for much of the 20th century?
What is causing this … New York Times investigative reporters did a tremendous job uncovering a troubling trend in Venezuela. Children in the country are starving to death. They documented the growing humanitarian crisis, but are seemingly loathe to assign blame. In over 4,500 words, the word socialist was used twice, and socialism was never used. The blame seems to be that the government is using food to keep itself in power, not that socialism causes the food shortages in the first place. Remember, socialism itself, though it has failed everywhere it has been tried, is never the problem. It is the people implementing it. The New York Times investigative team continues this line of reasoning in an otherwise heartrending piece.

NRO on Jennifer Rubin … I’ve been telling you for a year how the former left-coast liberal entertainment lawyer, now “conservative” columnist at the Washington Post, Jennifer Rubin has been quick to change her mind on a host of issues, now that Trump holds the presidency. Now the folks at National Review are starting to catch on. Charles C. W. Cooke has a blistering piece: “Jennifer Rubin is everything she hates about Trump worshippers.”
Rubin responded via Twitter: “if i had any respect for enablers of Trump or there was a cogent argument in there i’d respond. I miss the days when NR was at least witty.” Uh, really, Jen? National Review literally started the NeverTrump movement. NR writers have kept that pressure up, without sacrificing their principles, after the election and during his presidency. The Free Beacon’s Alex Griswold summed it up best: “Also, when the charge is that you’re blinded by an obsessive hatred of Trump to the detriment of logic and coherency, ‘You’re enabling Trump!’ is not an effective rejoinder.” Exactly.
The pontiff attacks fake news … Pope Francis has called on the media not to sin. The Associated Press reports that the pontiff said: “You shouldn’t fall into the ‘sins of communication:’ disinformation, or giving just one side, calumny that is sensationalized, or defamation, looking for things that are old news and have been dealt with and bringing them to light today.” Pope Francis called such things “grave sin.” There’s going to be a whole lot of journalists needing to line up for confession after this year.
Chris Matthews next? … NBC made a point to stress that it had never known about sexual misconduct accusations made by employees against Matt Lauer. The company’s brass can’t make that claim about Chris Matthews. The Daily Caller is reporting that NBC paid off a female staffer who made a sexual harassment accusation against Chris Matthews. As of this morning, Matthews is still employed by NBC News’ cable outlet MSNBC.
Together we can fight back …
I can’t fight back alone against the mainstream media. I need your help. There are two ways you can help. First, send your friends – and even your enemies – over to the WTF MSM!? email signup page. Second, email me at [email protected] with anything questionable you see the media do. Together, we can fight back.
