WTF MSM!? No death penalty for Vegas shooter!?

WTF MSM!? No death penalty for Vegas shooter!?

Just embarrassing …

Trump didn’t call for death penalty in Vegas! … After President Trump called for the death penalty for the jihadi who drove through a crowd of people in Manhattan, the media tried attacking him for not demanding it for the Las Vegas shooter. There’s one big problem. The Las Vegas shooter is already dead. One of the outlets caught in the trap was GQ. Their excuse? “The discrepancy [Trump not calling for death penalty] is probably related to the fact that the Las Vegas Shooter is dead. We regret the error.” Um, yeah, “probably.” It wasn’t just GQ. Oh, and one more.

Media mostly silent on sex abuse report about progressive darling … Ever since the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault story broke, there have been almost daily reports of women and men coming forward stating they have been harassed, assaulted, or, worst of all, raped. Yesterday, Politico published a report by Michael Calderone detailing how Mother Jones D.C. bureau chief David Corn was “investigated for inappropriate workplace behavior.” The story includes an email chain in which a female employee accused Corn of inappropriate touching. In addition to Politico, only two other mainstream outlets reported on the news. The Free Beacon’s Alex Griswold showed how only Fox News and Mediate followed up on the Politico story. Oh, and CNN’s Brian Stelter gave it 18 words in his daily email. One of those words was “nuanced.”

The Hill’s embarrassment … The Washington Examiner’s Timothy P. Carney outlines how a ridiculous take on Energy Secretary Rick Perry’s comments on fossil fuels and sexual assaults “is why nobody trusts the media.” Perry was speaking about energy development in the third world. He made a comment about how electricity, powered by fossil fuels, would bring many benefits, including a reduction in sexual assault, literally by shining a light on communities. The Hill tweeted: “Rick Perry suggests fossil fuels help prevent sexual assault.” As Carney shows, there’s actually data and studies that show that more lighting does in fact, reduce crime, including sexual assault.

Donna Brazile fallout …

The Hill’s surprising take … The Hill media reporter Joe Concha noticed something rather odd on the broadcast network news yesterday. There was no mention of former DNC chair Donna Brazile’s bombshell contention that the Hillary Clinton campaign and the DNC entered into an agreement to rig the primaries for Clinton. None at all. With all the talk of collusion and rigging of elections, that was pretty big to miss.

Aging well … Give Jake Tapper credit when it’s due. He continues to be the most even-handed personality that CNN employs, low bar though that may be. After Brazile’s revelations yesterday, Tapper simply tweeted: “This tweet DID age well.” Which tweet was that? This one by Donald Trump in May 2016: “Bernie Sanders is being treated very badly by the Democrats - the system is rigged against him. Many of his disenfranchised fans are for me!”

Speaking of Twitter … Kudos to Politico editor-in-chief Blake Hounshell. In response to human intervention shutting down President Trump’s Twitter account for a little over ten minutes yesterday, Hounshell tweeted: “It is shocking that some random Twitter employee could shut down the president's account. What if they instead had tweeted fake messages?” That is of course the key question we all should be asking.
