'When the nightmare begins': FBI joins the search for 9-year-old feared to have been abducted while camping in upstate New York

Nine-year-old Charlotte Sena is feared to have been abducted Saturday whilst on a camping trip with her family in upstate New York's Moreau Lake State Park.

The FBI has joined the search, and the 4,691 acre park has been closed until further notice amid growing concerns that the little girl faces "imminent danger."

What are the details?

The New York State Police issued an AMBER alert Sunday morning, noting that Sena, from Greenfield in Saratoga County, is believed to have been abducted on Saturday around 6:45 p.m. near Moreau Lake State Park, Loop A, Site 18, in Gansevoort, New York. The alert indicates the girl "was taken under circumstances that lead police to believe that they are in imminent danger of serious harm and/or death."

Sena is described has having long, blonde hair and green eyes, standing at 4 feet 6 inches tall, and weighing around 90 pounds. She was last seen wearing an orange tie-dye Pokemon shirt, dark blue pants, and a gray bicycle helmet. Police ask anyone with information pertaining to the abduction to call NYSP at 518-457-6811 or to dial 911.

WCBS-TV reported that the fourth-grader had been biking with friends, but had elected to do one more loop alone down a paved road, which threads through a heavily wooded area.

"Last evening, she went out on a bike ride; it wasn’t dark, right around dinnertime, and did a couple of loops with close friends she considers her cousins," said Gov. Kathy Hochul. "And then she decided, after going around True Bay, she said she just wanted to go around one more time by herself – be that big girl, do it by herself."

"Literally 15 minutes later, she hadn't come back yet," continued the governor. "And that's really when the nightmare begins."

"At approximately 6:45 p.m., Charlotte's bike was located in Loop A, and at 6:47 p.m., Charlotte's mom, Trish, called 911 to report the child missing," said NYSP Lt. Col. Richard Mazzone.

Yesterday, 9-year-old Charlotte Sena went missing in Moreau State Park.\n\nFor more than 18 hours teams from @nyspolice, @NYstateparks Police, Forest Rangers, UAS, and URT have been searching the grounds.\n\nMy heart is with Charlotte's family and loved ones as the search continues.

The search underway

Jené Sena, an aunt of Sena, told USA Today that the past few days have been a "nightmare" for her family, adding that the girl's parents and over 30 family members are helping police in their search.

Trisha, Sena's mother, told the Albany Times Union her daughter is a "good kid" and "trusting," stressing, "I just want my daughter back."

The Sena family told NBC News in a statement, "We just want her returned safely like any parent would. No tip is too small, please call if you know anything at all."

Extra to bloodhounds, divers, forest rangers, air boats, and ATVs, police are utilizing drones and other technology in their sweep of the park.

In addition to on-the-ground efforts, police have also been working to trace cellphones utilized in the area around the time Sena went missing and gathering surveillance video, reported WCBS.

The Times Union reported that the FBI is now assisting the NYSP in the search.

As of early Monday, hundreds of personnel from various state agencies, including members of the Schenectady Fire Department, were reportedly combing the area for the girl.

Amber Alert teen killed during shootout between police and her dad: Report

Amber Alert teen killed during shootout between police and her dad: Report

A young girl who had been the subject of an Amber Alert was reportedly struck and killed during a shootout between her father and police.

On Monday, police issued an Amber Alert for Savanna Graziano, 15, of Fontana, California, about an hour east of Los Angeles. Police feared that she had been abducted by her father, Anthony Graziano, after he supposedly murdered Tracy Martinez, the girl's mother, during a domestic incident.

At the time, Anthony Graziano, 45, was considered armed and dangerous. The alert included a description of Graziano's vehicle and a license plate.

On Tuesday, a motorist spotted the vehicle and reported it to law enforcement. When police caught up with the suspect, he was traveling southbound on I-15, headed toward L.A. He and police then began exchanging gun fire. At some point near Victorville, the suspect's car became disabled.

When the car came to a stop, someone inside continued to fire at police. Savanna Graziano then reportedly exited the vehicle, wearing a tactical helmet and a "trauma plate" such as those inserted into a bulletproof vest, and ran toward police. Savanna was then struck by a bullet, though it is unclear whether the bullet came from police or from the suspect.

After police secured the scene, Savanna was given medical assistance and transported to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The suspect also reportedly died of a gunshot wound in the incident.

San Bernardino Sheriff Shannon Dicus shared these details with reporters during a press conference he held on Tuesday. However, he cautioned that "[t]his all still needs to be confirmed and is preliminary information."

Dicus did not say how many times Savanna or Anthony had been struck. He did confirm that one firearm — an AR-15-type rifle — was recovered from the suspect's vehicle. He also alleged that a gun from the suspect's vehicle put "several rounds through the windshield of the patrol unit."

One deputy was injured by shrapnel during the event and is reportedly in stable condition.

Dicus also added that there "may be some indication" that Savanna shot at police as well, and Fox 11 Los Angeles reported that the shots directed at police came from the passenger side of the suspect's vehicle.

'Heroes ... ripped her from her abductor': Amber Alert proves instrumental in rescuing teenager kidnapped on Hawaii beach

A teenage girl from Hawaii is now home safe, thanks to the help of some Good Samaritans she encountered at a restaurant on the other side of the island.

According to reports, Duncan Kealoha Mahi, 52, kidnapped Mikella Debina, 15, last Friday while she was enjoying a day at the beach with her boyfriend. At approximately 1:30 p.m. local time, Mahi reportedly approached the couple at Anaeho’omalu Bay Beach on the main island of Hawaii. Mahi then allegedly forced Debina at knifepoint to tie up and blindfold her boyfriend so that he could abduct her without the boyfriend's interference.

After the two disappeared, law enforcement groups immediately began a manhunt to find Mahi and Debina. In fact, the state issued its first-ever Amber Alert to help find the missing teen.

It proved to be instrumental in bringing her home. Nearly 24 hours later, folks at Hilo’s Cafe Pesto, nearly 70 miles away from Anaeho’omalu Bay Beach, were able to help rescue the girl and reunite her with her family when they recognized her from the Amber Alert.

A host at the cafe, Bridge Hartman, said he noticed that something was "off" about the young girl and the older gentleman. The dress Debinahad been wearing at the beach was discovered abandoned with her cell phone near the Kona airport, and she was now wearing ill-fitting men's clothes. She was also having a heated discussion with her companion, Hartman claimed.

"Even if it wasn’t her, my brain was like, ‘I need to get her,'" said Hartman.

"Then I realized it was her," he recalled. "And I yelled out, 'That’s the girl! That’s the Amber Alert girl!'"

Hartman then managed to free Debina from Mahi's clutches and steer her towards the rear of the restaurant for safety. Another woman at the restaurant helped her call her mother.

Her mother, Cherese “Cher” Angelel, called the helpful restaurant employees and patrons "heroes" who had "ripped [Mikella] from her abductor." Though shaken up by the events, Mikella is otherwise reported to be "in good health."

Mahi did manage to escape from the cafe, but police located him soon afterwards and placed him under arrest for kidnapping. He also had other outstanding warrants for which they arrested him.

3-year-old boy who went missing in Montana wilderness is found

A 3-year-old boy who went missing on Friday has been safely reunited with his parents, USA Today has reported.

What are the details?

The child, Ryker Webb, was reported missing from his family’s Montana home on Friday after going missing from the family’s property.

Officials at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said that the child ended up spending two days out in the remote wild by himself before authorities were able to locate him.

The outlet reported that the child was last seen on Friday playing with the family dog in the backyard. His father, who remains unnamed at the time of this reporting, was said to have been outside with the child and the dog before momentarily stepping into the house for an undisclosed reason and an indeterminate amount of time. The child was reportedly missing when his father returned from inside the home.

The weekend search, police said, was hampered by poor weather. The sheriffs office in a statement said, “It was extremely difficult to get the additional air assets into the Bull Lake valley due to very poor weather conditions which consisted of rain, low visibility, and low ceiling.”

Authorities located Ryker on Sunday. He was apparently uninjured, though “hungry, thirsty, and cold.” NBC News reported that the child — who it identified the child as being four years old — was located approximately 2.4 miles from his home.

“The temperature fell into the low 40s in Missoula on Saturday, with a quarter inch of rain hitting the ground,” the report added.

The report added that he was reunited with his parents and transported to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center for evaluation.

Lincoln County Sheriff Darren Short told “Today” that the child’s parents waited two hours to report the child missing — news that the department is investigating.

“We’re still looking into why he disappeared, and why he wasn’t being watched closely,” Short said.

US Marshals rescue 11 missing runaway children in New Orleans; 2 boys were in 'extreme danger'

In "Operation Summer Rescue 2020," the U.S. Marshals Service focused on tracking down missing runaway children originally from New Orleans. During the two-month operation funded by the agency's Missing Child Unit, U.S. Marshals rescued 11 endangered children, including two boys who were reportedly in extreme danger.

Of the 11 children located, one of them was a 16-year-old boy was found in New Orleans. Authorities believe that the teen was involved in illegal gang activity, including the possession of firearms.

U.S. Marshals tracked down a missing 13-year-old girl, who was found in Nashville, Tennessee. The recovery of the girl included the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service of Middle District Tennessee Task Force, Metro Nashville Police Department, and the FBI New Orleans Field Office, according to the U.S. Marshals press release.

Operation Summer Rescue 2020, which took place between Aug. 1 through Sept. 30, also made several arrests during the rescues. An adult male was arrested for aggravated statutory rape.

A mother wanted on a first-degree murder warrant out of Mississippi was apprehended. She allegedly murdered her 11-year-old son at a hotel in Laurel, Mississippi. U.S. Marshals recovered her two other sons, ages 6 and 9, who were considered to be in "extreme danger" and an Amber Alert had been issued to locate them.

"This is a very important mission that the USMS has been tasked by Congress to oversee, as the safety of children across the country is paramount to this nation's future," said U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Louisiana Scott Illing. "While 11 recoveries may not seem high, this work, which is time consuming, was accomplished while also running our normal day-to-day violent felony offender investigations and sex offender fugitive operations in the district, along with our other judicial missions."

In the past month and a half, the U.S. Marshals Service has rescued nearly 100 missing and endangered children.

Last week, U.S. Marshals reported that they had rescued 35 missing children during "Operation Safety Net" in Ohio.

On Sept. 17, U.S. Marshals Service wrapped up "Operation Triple Beam," a 60-day mission to reduce violent gang crime in Oklahoma City. U.S. Marshals rescued five missing children, made 262 arrests, plus seized illegal firearms and narcotics.

On Sept. 4, the U.S. Marshals Service announced that they rescued eight "highly endangered" missing children in Indiana during "Operation Homecoming."

On Aug. 27, U.S. Marshals located 39 missing children in Georgia and Florida during "Operation Not Forgotten." Authorities said the children were between the ages of 3 to 17. Of the 39 endangered children, 15 were victims of sex trafficking.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement participated in a multi-agency operation last month that resulted in the arrest of five suspected child sexual predators. "Operation Home Alone 2" was able to successfully "target sexual predators who attempted to lure underage children with the intent of engaging in sexual activity."
