Republicans demand answers from White House doctor who gave president glowing health report, business dealings with Biden family

House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) is demanding answers from White House physician Kevin O’Connor regarding the mental health of President Joe Biden as well as past business dealings with the president's younger brother.

“After a concerning debate performance by President Biden against former President Donald Trump on June 27, journalists have rushed to report on what Americans have seen plainly for years: the President appears unwell," Comer wrote. "Americans question President Biden’s ability to lead the country, and the Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating circumstances surrounding your assessment in February of this year that ‘President Biden is a healthy, active, robust 81-year-old-male, who remains fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency."

Comer continued, "Recently, it was reported that you have ‘never recommended that [President] Biden take a cognitive test.’ The Oversight Committee is concerned your medical assessments have been influenced by your private business endeavors with the Biden family."

In the February health report, O'Connor claimed Biden "continues to be fit for duty and fully executes all of his responsibilities without any exemptions or accommodations."

In O'Connor's glowing report released in 2023, the White House doctor gushed: "President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous, 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief."

Representative Comer is calling on O'Connor to appear for a transcribed interview "regarding his medical assessments of President Biden and his private endeavors with the Biden family’s business schemes." Comer described the business dealings as the "Biden family’s influence-peddling schemes."

The Biden family business schemes in question involve O'Connor, the president's brother James Biden, and Americore Health, LLC – a company that operates hospitals in rural areas and is now involved in bankruptcy proceedings.

During a closed-door deposition in February, James Biden told the House Oversight Committee that O'Connor served as a consultant in assisting him with proposals for “filling these hospitals” from which Americore sought to profit.

“I had gotten through his — as Vice President, his personal physician was Colonel Kevin O’Connor,” James Biden said in the interview.

Americore’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy trustee, Carol Fox, previously told the committee that James Biden had received two loans for amounts of $400,000 and $200,000 from Americore. The president's brother reportedly claimed he could "open doors" to secure Middle Eastern investments because of the Biden family name.

The same day James Biden received the $200,000 wire transfer from Americore, he wrote his brother a $200,000 check, according to Comer. The check was labeled as "loan repayment," House investigators determined.

Comer said to O'Connor on Sunday, "You have repeatedly refused most interview requests from the media, and the Committee now turns to you to provide answers regarding your independence because of the mixed and confused messaging coming from the White House regarding the President’s ability to perform his job."

He added, "Given your connections with the Biden family, the Committee also seeks to understand if you are in a position to provide accurate and independent reviews of the President’s fitness to serve."

Comer requested "all documents and communications in your possession regarding Americore and James Biden."

Sen. Chuck Grassley instructs FBI to turn over 'voluminous' evidence of Hunter Biden's 'potential criminal conduct'

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is demanding information from federal law enforcement pertaining to "potential criminal conduct" carried out by Hunter and James Biden as part of an alleged corrupt business deal with a Chinese company.

Grassley, the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has led congressional Republicans in calling for FBI oversight, reviving numerous whistleblower complaints from protected individuals who have alleged misconduct and political bias at the agency. In an Oct. 13 letter to the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Iowa senator disclosed that his office "has received a significant number of protected communications from highly credible whistleblowers which have increased since my initial outreach to your offices."

“Based on recent protected disclosures to my office, the FBI has within its possession significant, impactful and voluminous evidence with respect to potential criminal conduct by Hunter Biden and James Biden,” Grassley wrote.

The allegations concerning Hunter and James Biden, President Joe Biden's son and brother, respectively, relate to a reported "lucrative" business deal with a foreign energy company connected to the Chinese Communist Party. Emails purportedly from Hunter Biden's laptop revealed that in 2017, Hunter and James Biden allegedly set up meetings with representatives from CEFC China Energy Co. to discuss forming a new holding company. Tony Bobulinski, a former business partner of Hunter Biden's, has alleged that the holding company would have been used to compensate the Biden family, including Joe Biden, for assistance given to CEFC while Joe Biden was still vice president.

Hunter Biden is under separate criminal investigation for alleged tax crimes and making a false statement related to a gun purchase, the Washington Post reported earlier this month.

The White House has denied President Joe Biden's involvement with any of his son's business dealings. But Bobulinski claimed that a 10% stake in the venture was set aside for "the big guy" — Joe Biden.

According to Grassley's letter, Bobulinski was interviewed by the FBI on Oct. 23, 2020, during which he provided evidence supporting his allegations. He wrote to the DOJ and the FBI demanding to know if an investigation was ever opened based on Bobulinski's testimony.

"Based on allegations provided to my office, the information provided by Mr. Bobulinski formed sufficient basis to open a full field investigation on pay-to-play grounds; however, it is unclear whether the FBI did so and whether the information is part of the ongoing criminal investigation by U.S. Attorney Weiss," Grassley wrote.

He inquired about additional evidence the FBI reportedly has in its possession as well, including a document that notes that then former Vice President Joe Biden met with Hunter Biden and his business associates at a conference in Los Angeles on May 2, 2017, and May 3, 2017. Grassley also asked about other documents related to Hunter Biden's business dealings with the Burisma gas company.

"The documents in the FBI’s possession include specific details with respect to conversations by non-government individuals relevant to potential criminal conduct by Hunter Biden. These documents also indicate that Joe Biden was aware of Hunter Biden’s business arrangements and may have been involved in some of them," Grassley wrote.

He said it was "unclear" whether the FBI followed through with an investigation or whether it improperly dismissed the evidence as Russian disinformation, as a whistleblower claimed it did with other evidence against Hunter Biden.

Timothy Thibault, a senior FBI agent assigned to the Hunter Biden laptop investigation, resigned from the Bureau in August amid allegations of partisanship and bias.

Grassley said the Biden administration needs to provide transparency on these matters and turn over the evidence it has against Hunter Biden to lawmakers.

"The Justice Department's and FBI's continued silence on these matters is deafening and further erodes their credibility. Simply put, enough is enough -- the Justice Department and FBI must come clean to Congress and the American people with respect to the steps they have take, or failed to take, relating to the Hunter Biden investigation," he wrote.
