In The Days After Hurricane Helene, Not One Of The Biden-Harris Cabinet Visited

Not a single Biden-Harris cabinet official was on the ground in disaster areas, and none expressed an intention to visit the most-affected areas.

Republicans are seething over Biden’s OMB pick — Sen. Cornyn's spokesman says there's 'zero chance' she'll be confirmed

The communications director for Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Sunday there is "zero chance" that former Vice President Joe Biden's pick to lead the Office of Budget and Management will be confirmed by the Senate in the coming year.

What are the details?

Drew Brandewie responded to a tweet announcing that Biden had selected Neera Tanden for the post by alleging that Tanden, who runs the liberal think tank Center for American Progress, has made too many Republican enemies to be approved.

"Neera Tanden, who has an endless stream of disparaging comments about the Republican Senators' whose votes she'll need, stands zero chance of being confirmed," he wrote on Twitter.

Brandewie's complaint was in line with negative responses from several other prominent Republicans in Washington.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) called Tanden a "partisan hack" while former chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) characterized her selection for the OMB as a "sacrifice to the confirmation gods."

"Neera Tanden is a big-government, big-spending radical liberal who's a terrible choice for OMB Director," tweeted Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla). "It's just more proof that [Joe Biden] and the Democrats will continue to move further and further to the Left."

Aside from her role at an influential liberal think tank, at issue for many Republicans was Tanden's vocal opposition to the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2018, CNN reported. Tanden did, as Brandewie alleged, call out many Republicans over their support for Kavanaugh, some of them by name.

After news of her selection, the left-wing news outlet asked, "Is this Joe Biden pick already doomed?"

Anything else?

It appears Tanden knows she'd be fighting an uphill battle to get confirmed. Over the weekend, she was caught furiously deleting past tweets about Republican senators that would likely raise eyebrows during the process.

In one deleted tweet, she said "the mask is off" before calling Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) a "terrible person."

Of course, Brandewie's assertion will likely only prove true if Republicans are able to maintain their majority in the Senate. Right now Republicans hold 50 seats in the chamber while Democrats hold 46, with two Independent legislators, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Sen. Angus King (I-Maine), who caucus with the Democrats.

The GOP's tenuous 50-48 lead makes the two forthcoming runoff elections in Georgia that much more important as the Senate is responsible for confirming important positions like the one Tanden is hoping to land. The vice president is responsible for breaking ties in the chamber.

If Republicans are able to win at least one of the seats, they would theoretically have the numbers to block controversial appointees. If Democrats win both of the seats, they will have the numbers to push appointees through with little resistance.

BLM leader blasts Joe Biden for capitalizing on defund the police, vows to block Eric Garcetti from cabinet position

A founding member of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation has slammed Joe Biden, and accused the former vice president of capitalizing on the defund the police movement, according to the Daily Wire.

Dr. Melina Abdullah, the lead organizer of BLMGNF's Los Angeles chapter that opened in 2013, alleged that Biden "capitalized on our efforts to defund the police, and then tried to condemn the words at the same time." Last week, several Black Lives Matter leaders lambasted Democrats for not supporting the defund the police movement.

"We want to be very clear that as we happily usher out the Trump regime, we will not accept liberal white supremacy in the White House in the form of Joe Biden," Abdullah, who has been critical of Biden's "lock-them-up approach that feeds mass incarceration and overpolicing," said.

"It doesn't matter to me if Kamala Harris is your vice president if you're using her black woman body to usher in oppressive systems and oppressive people like Eric Garcetti," Abdullah said.

Abdullah made the comments earlier this week during protests outside of the home of Los Angeles Democratic Mayor Eric Garcetti. Black Lives Matter Los Angeles was protesting the reports that Garcetti was in contention for a position in a potential Joe Biden cabinet. Garcetti is allegedly being considered for secretary of Transportation or Housing and Urban Development.

"What he's attempted to do for his entire reign as mayor is silence black voices," Abdullah said of Garcetti. "We will not let our voices be silent. … He wants us to be silent. And he continues to feed a police department that is one of the most murderous in the entire nation."

Abdullah said a Garcetti appointment to Biden's potential cabinet would be "doubling down on liberal white supremacy."

"We have to remember that there are a lot of liberal white supremacists," Abdullah said, making a reference of Garcetti. "Just because you plaster on a smile, just because you have a few sellout Negros that want a seat at your dinner table, just because you speak a little bit of Spanish…that does not make you not a white supremacist."

Two people were arrested this week during protests outside of Garcetti's residence. The protests continued on Saturday, for the fifth-straight day.

Republican senators promise to block Susan Rice from any cabinet position: 'Sauce for the goose, sauce for the gander'

Multiple Republican senators promised Tuesday that Joe Biden's potential cabinet nominees will face harsh scrutiny from Republicans in the Senate, promising to repay Democrats for what they viewed as harsh treatment given to President Trump's cabinet nominees four years ago. Specifically, they also indicated that any attempt to nominate the controversial Susan Rice for any cabinet position would be rejected by Republicans.

Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) appeared on "The Hugh Hewitt Show" Tuesday and discussed with Hewitt how a Republican Senate might treat cabinet nominees in a potential Biden administration. Specifically, both senators were asked about reports indicating that former president Barack Obama is pushing Biden to nominate former National Security Adviser Susan Rice to be secretary of state.

Both Blackburn and Cotton indicated that Republicans in the Senate would likely refuse to confirm Rice to that position, or to "any position" requiring Senate approval.

Rice has been the subject of intense controversy for years due to a number of issues, most prominently including her role in spreading the Obama administration's false claim that the attack on a U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya, that resulted in the deaths of four Americans was the result of a spontaneous uprising caused by local reaction to a YouTube video produced by an American.

This theory of the attacks was later discredited, and the Obama administration later claimed that errors made by Rice during television interviews on the subject were the fault of the CIA, which they claimed provided Rice with bad information.

When reports surfaced that Biden was considering Rice for the position, Biden transition team members reportedly dismissed concerns that Rice would face an uphill battle in a Republican-controlled Senate, apparently in the belief that Republicans may have forgotten about the Benghazi debacle.

Cotton's and Blackburn's comments may indicate that Biden has gravely misread the Senate chamber he is likely to inherit. More ominous for Biden than the specific remarks made about Rice are the remarks made by Cotton that the Republican Senate will treat Biden's nominees by the same "rules" Trump nominees faced.

Although some of Trump's initial cabinet nominees (like Secretary of Defense James Mattis) received relatively easy confirmation hearings, the vast majority of Trump's nominees faced almost unanimous opposition from Democrats. Overall, at least 17 of Trump's non-judicial nominees who required Senate approval got over 40 "no" votes. Six of those nominees were confirmed without a single "yes" vote from Democrats.

If Republicans are able to maintain their control of the Senate by winning at least one of the two runoff races in Georgia, that may indicate that Biden could have a difficult time getting the cabinet he wants confirmed.
