'Nightmare': Passenger fatally shot aboard hijacked metro bus in Los Angeles; suspect holds driver at gunpoint

A passenger was fatally shot aboard a hijacked metro bus in Los Angeles after midnight Wednesday as the suspect held the driver at gunpoint and police gave chase.

Officers began receiving radio calls about a potential assault with a deadly weapon on a bus near in south L.A. around 12:45 a.m., KTLA-TV reported, citing Los Angeles Police Department Deputy Chief Donald Graham.

While the suspect was taken into custody, the station said the motive for the shooting was not known.

Authorities learned that a person aboard the bus pulled out a gun, which prompted the bus driver to activate a panic button that displays a “CALL 911” message on the bus' exterior, the station said.

Officers found the bus stopped near West 117th Street and South Figueroa Street, but when police got close to the bus, it began moving, after which a pursuit was on, KTLA said.

Police told the station the suspect was holding the bus driver at gunpoint.

“Clearly, he was under duress and under the threat of violence … for him to be able to keep his composure is a reflection on the bus operators in the system,” Graham later noted to KTLA in regard to the bus driver.

Officers deployed spike strips, which flattened the bus’ tires, the station said, adding that the pursuit ended after roughly an hour at East 6th Street and South Alameda Street in downtown L.A.

SWAT officers then deployed a flash-bang device, which allowed the bus driver to escape by climbing through a window, KTLA reported, adding that cops said SWAT officers also rescued a passenger who wasn't seriously hurt.

However, another victim was found aboard the bus suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the station said, adding that Graham said the unidentified victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Investigators believe the hijacker shot the victim before the police pursuit commenced, KTLA noted.

While the suspect was taken into custody, the station said the motive for the shooting was not known.

L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn — who's also chair of the LA Metro Board of Directors — called the incident a “nightmare” but praised the bus driver's actions, KTLA said.

Hahn also calling for more to be done to protect the Metro system, the station said: “We need ways to prevent people from bringing weapons onto our Metro buses and trains, and the sooner we can find solutions to prevent tragedies like this, the better."

Texas Pays Huge Bus Fare Sending Migrants To Sanctuary Cities

Texas spent $124,603,616.19 busing more than 100,000 illegal immigrants

Texas has sent over 50,000 illegal aliens to Democrat-run cities and shows no signs of letting up

Since President Joe Biden took office in 2021, Texas has faced an unprecedented influx of illegal aliens — what Gov. Greg Abbott has officially declared an "invasion."

As waves of migrants crashed upon the Lone Star State without cessation, Democrat-run states and cities kept up their pro-illegal migration rhetoric, more or less inviting foreign nationals to flout the laws of the land.

Ever since Texas began busing illegal aliens to these so-called sanctuaries in April 2022, that rhetoric has been put to the test and, in some cases, proven hollow.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott announced Friday that as part of Operation Lone Star, Texas has bused over 50,000 illegal aliens to so-called sanctuary cities.

According to the governor's office, the state has bused:

  • Over 12,500 migrants to Washington, D.C., since April 2022;
  • Over 18,500 migrants to New York City since August 2022;
  • Over 13,500 migrants to Chicago since August 2022;
  • Over 3,100 migrants to Philadelphia since November 2022;
  • Over 3,200 migrants to Denver since May 18; and
  • Over 940 migrants to Los Angeles since June 14.

According to Axios, it has taken Texas roughly 1,130 buses to get these migrants to their blue destinations.

Having been exposed to just a fraction of what Texas has withstood, various sanctuary cities have buckled.

TheBlaze reported Tuesday that the executive director for Denver's Office of Emergency Management recently sent a letter to various Texas officials asking that they provide illegal aliens with flyers stressing that the Democrat-run sanctuary city is no longer able to provide shelter and other resources to future waves of border-jumpers.

NYC Mayor Eric Adams, who has admitted that the influx of illegal aliens under Biden "will destroy New York City," tried something similar at the border this year. Since his flyer campaign accomplished little in the way of precluding multitudes of additional migrants joining the over 100,000 that have already poured into NYC in recent months, Adams headed to Latin America last week in hopes of dissuading additional migrants from making their way north.

D.C. is similarly having troubles living up to its sanctuary promise. Its Democratic mayor deemed the influx of migrants a crisis last year, declared a state of emergency, and called on the National Guard for assistance. The District has since spent tens of millions of dollars to address the arrival of migrants bused in by Texas, reported the Washington Examiner.

As for Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson's Chicago, migrants are piling into police stations, lobbies, and makeshift camps because all of the shelters intended for American citizens are full, reported the New York Times.

"We don't have any place for them to go," said Cristina Pacione-Zayas, deputy chief of staff for Johnson. "We are scrambling."

Andrew Vasquez, chairman of the city's Committee on Immigrant and Refugee Rights, said, "It's a logistical nightmare. ... You're going to see more people on the street figuring out a way to survive."

Housing and feeding the migrants in Chicago alone is expected to cost the city at least $345 million in under less than a year and a half.

According to the Times, the sanctuary city of Los Angeles is not having comparable difficulties, in part because it's too expensive for many illegal migrants to stay. Those who stick around can count on the already massive illegal alien population to provide a support network.

On Sept. 22, Abbott announced the deployment of additional buses to Eagle Pass and El Paso to help share their burden with Democrat-run cities.

"Texas communities like Eagle Pass and El Paso should not have to shoulder the unprecedented surge of illegal immigration caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies. I have directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy additional buses to send these migrants to self-declared sanctuary cities and provide much-needed relief to our overrun border towns," said the governor. "Until President Biden upholds his constitutional duty to secure America’s southern border, Texas will continue to deploy as many buses as needed to relieve the strain caused by the surge of illegal crossings."

Axios noted that Abbott's initiative has successfully prompted Democratic leaders to increase pressure on the Biden administration to act on the border.

In his Friday announcement, Abbott indicated Texas has also apprehended over 473,900 illegal aliens since the launch of Operation Lone Star, made over 34,800 criminal arrests, and issued over 31,800 felony charges.

TheBlaze previously reported that September 2023 appears to have set an all-time record for illegal border crossings.

Between October 2022 and August 2023, over 2.2 million migrants stole into the country, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The previous fiscal year, another 2.3 million entered.

Multiple people injured when Baltimore bus collides with 2 vehicles, occupied building

Multiple people were injured Saturday morning when a bus crashed into two cars and an occupied building, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department.

There were no life threatening injuries to any of the patients, according to the BCFD. An Incident Commander updated the status to a "Mass Casualty Level 1 Incident" because 16 patients required evaluation, care, and transport.

The multi-vehicle crash occurred at N. Paca St. around 10:20 a.m. The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the Baltimore Police Department and the Maryland Transit Administration, the BCFD said in a Facebook post.
The R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center received five patients, University of Maryland Medical System spokesperson Michael Schwartzberg told TheBlaze.
The University of Maryland Medical Center Downtown Campus Emergency Department received four patients, and UMMC's Midtown Campus Emergency Department received three patients, Schwartzberg also said.

The Maryland Transit Administration CityLink Blue bus bus collided with a black Lexus and a Nissan before it struck the building at the 500 block of Franklin Street, according to CNN and the Baltimore Sun.

The occupied structure, reportedly an apartment building, was evacuated while the BCFD's Special Rescue Operations and Collapse Unit assessed the situation.

"They condemned the first floor. We did a partial evacuation while we did an assessment," Assistant Fire Chief and spokesperson Kevin Cartwright said, as reported in the Baltimore Sun.

The number of injured patients, initially reported as 16 by the BCFD, was later bumped to "at least 17," WJZ reported. The bus driver was treated at the scene. He and 16 other injured people were transported to the hospital, Cartwright said, as CNN reported.

The Baltimore Police Department referred questions from TheBlaze to the MTA Police. TheBlaze reached out to MTA Police, but did not hear back in time for publication.

Texas governor says 300th busload of migrants heading to Chicago

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced on Thursday that the 300th busload of migrants is heading from the Lone Star State to Chicago.

"The 300th Texas bus of migrants just left for Chicago. As Biden does nothing, Texas will continue taking unprecedented action to relieve our overwhelmed border communities & secure the border," Abbott tweeted.

Month after month, massive numbers of migrants have been flooding America's southern border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported more than 2.3 million southwest land border encounters during the 2022 fiscal year, which ran from October 2021 through September 2022.

Earlier this year, Abbott started transporting migrants from Texas to Washington D.C. — the trips are taken by migrants on a voluntary basis. New York City was later added as a destination, followed by the Windy City.

"To continue providing much-needed relief to our small, overrun border towns, Chicago will join fellow sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City as an additional drop-off location," Abbott said, according to an August 31 press release. "Mayor Lightfoot loves to tout the responsibility of her city to welcome all regardless of legal status, and I look forward to seeing this responsibility in action as these migrants receive resources from a sanctuary city with the capacity to serve them."

Abbott defeated Democratic gubernatorial candidate Beto O'Rourke in the Lone Star State's governor's race this week, securing a third term in office. O'Rourke, who previously served in the U.S. House of Representatives, has been on a losing streak for a number of years. In 2018, O'Rourke lost a U.S. Senate contest to incumbent GOP Sen. Ted Cruz and then in 2019, O'Rourke mounted a presidential bid but dropped out later the same year — now he has added a 2022 gubernatorial election loss to his resume.

Creep steals hundreds of dollars from 64-year-old man in wheelchair — as other bus passengers simply watch it happen

A crook was caught on surveillance video stealing hundreds of dollars in cash from a victim sitting in a wheelchair aboard a New York City bus earlier this month, police told the New York Post.

Video shows at least four other passengers seated aboard the bus at the time of the robbery, and none of them did a thing in response.

What are the details?

New York City police released video Sunday showing the crook standing directly behind the victim — a 64-year-old man — around 9 p.m. Aug. 13 on a Staten Island bus, police told the Post.

Soon the crook reaches down toward the victim — who's sitting in a wheelchair — and goes into the victim's shirt pocket as the S40 MTA bus stops at Clinton Avenue and Richmond Terrace, police told the paper.

As the suspect pulls out his hand, much of the cash falls to the bus floor as the suspect and victim struggle for it. But the suspect manages to hold on to some of the cash and appears to grab additional bills from the floor before fleeing the bus.

The Post said the suspect got away with $250.

The paper said the victim rose from his wheelchair briefly as if to fight back but then sat back down. The victim wasn't injured, the Post said, adding that the crook took off in an unknown direction.

Man kicks 16-year-old girl in face after shaming her for not wearing mask, 'racially abusing her' on UK bus. So fellow passenger body slams him.

A man was caught on cellphone video kicking a 16-year-old girl in the face after he chewed her out for not wearing a mask and was "racially abusing her" on a bus in the United Kingdom — and then a fellow passenger body slammed the man to the floor, threatened to "murder" him, stomped on his head, and threw him off the bus, the Daily Mail reported.

What are the details?

Video shows a man and woman sitting on the bus during an Oct. 1 ride in West Bromwich and excoriating a girl — who was sitting in front of them and on the opposite side — for not wearing a mask.

"All I'm saying is put your mask on!" the man told the girl, according to the outlet. "I'm not being racist, but the virus is more common in black and Asians. Put your f***ing mask on."

The Daily Mail said the girl replied but was shouted down by the woman who asked her, "Why do I have to come on the bus and put up with you sitting next to us with no mask on?"

The woman also told the girl, "If you weren't 16 years old, I would knock you the f*** out," the Daily Mail reported.

As the couple walk toward the bus door to de-board, the man turns around and kicks the girl in the face, the outlet said. It isn't clear if he does so in response to a parting shot from the girl.

With that, a passenger stands up, grabs the man from behind, and body slams him to the floor.

While the body-slammed man covers his head, the passenger stands over him, points his finger at his face, and threatens him: "What are you doing, you piece of s**t? I will f***ing murder you."

As he's walking away, he stomps on the man's head.

The woman comes to the man's defense and appears to try hitting the intervening passenger — but he easily swipes her away, grabs her and the body-slammed man, and throws them off the bus.

What are police saying?

A West Midlands police spokesman shared a still image from surveillance video showing the man as he was being thrown off the bus, the Daily Mail said.

"Do you recognize this man?" police asked, according to the outlet. "We want to speak with him urgently after a teenager was racially abused and attacked on a bus in Hill Top, West Bromwich last week."

Police said an "argument broke out on the 79 bus in Moxley at around 5:40 p.m. on 1 October, before a fellow passenger racially abused the 16-year-old and kicked her. We have spoken to the girl and are examining mobile phone footage which has been shared on social media. We take racially aggravated crimes extremely seriously, and our enquiries continue."
