Should illegal aliens fight in the US Army in exchange for citizenship?
Senator Dick Durbin has a solution for the never-ending stream of immigrants coming across our country's border: have them fight in the U.S. Army as a way to become legal citizens.
“Yes, we need order at the border. Yes, we need to have changes in the laws that reflect the reality of the overwhelming numbers from all over the world who are coming to our shores and our border,” Durbin said, before offering his solution.
“If you’re an undocumented person in this country, and you can pass the physical and the required background test, [and] the like, you can serve in our military. And if you do it honorably, we will make you citizens of the United States,” Durbin continued.
Durbin also noted that the Army, the Navy, and the Air Force haven't been reaching their recruiting quotas each month.
“They can’t find enough people to join our military forces, and there are those who are undocumented who want the chance to serve and risk their lives for this country. Should we give them the chance? I think we should,” he added.
Chad Prather isn’t so sure this is a great idea.
“Already in Illinois, they’ve already pushed through or are trying to push through legislation where illegals can become police officers,” Prather says, adding, “So, that means you’re here illegally but you get to enforce the law?”
Comedian and actor Derek Richards thinks there are other solutions, especially when it comes to being unable to fulfill quotas.
“Bigger picture, I mean, we treat our military people like s**t,” Richards says, noting that many members of the military have historically followed their fathers or grandfathers into the Army — but others won’t after they see the way they’re treated.
“They’re seeing what they went through, or how bad the VA is treating them, and then you factor in the woke initiatives that are there,” Prather says, citing all the recent focus on LGBTQ+ members of the military.
“People are just sick of that. Like, I don’t want to be a part of that military,” he adds.
