Heart singer Ann Wilson announces removal of 'something that ... was cancerous,' says she will receive 'preventative chemotherapy'

Ann Wilson of Heart fame announced that she will receive preventative chemotherapy.

The renowned rocker said in a statement that she had undergone a procedure "to remove something," which turned out to be "cancerous."

'I've so much more to sing.'

"I recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous. The operation was successful & I'm feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy & I've decided to do it," she said in a statement posted on social media.

She indicated that she plans to get back to performing again in the future.

"And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover. To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted & we'll let you know the plan as soon as we can. Thanks for all the support. This is merely a pause. I've so much more to sing," she wrote. "Respectfully, this is the last public statement I'd like to make on the matter."

Heart is known for popular songs such as "Barracuda," "Crazy on You," and "Alone."

Princess Kate says she's 'making good progress' and will continue undergoing treatment for several months

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, indicated in a statement that she is "making good progress" and will continue undergoing treatment for several months.

"I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well," she noted. "My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months. On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home."

'The Princess of Wales' statement will be especially meaningful to those who are fighting cancer and for their families.'

"I'm looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet," the princess noted.

U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak responded to the princess's statement, noting, "The Princess of Wales' statement will be especially meaningful to those who are fighting cancer and for their families. They will recognise the same struggle in her words and draw hope and inspiration from her strength. I'm delighted she will be in attendance for His Majesty's Birthday Parade and I know the whole country is behind her."

In a video earlier this year, Catherine said that after she had undergone abdominal surgery it was discovered that "cancer had been present." She said in the video that "preventative chemotherapy" was recommended and that she was "in the early stages of that treatment."

Steve Scalise provides positive health update about cancer battle

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who announced last month that he had started treatment for cancer, shared a positive update about his health on Wednesday.

The Louisiana Republican said during remarks on Wednesday that "the cancer has dropped dramatically" due to chemotherapy.

"Thank you for all your prayers—and thank God they are being answered," Scalise said in a tweet.

GOP Rep. Burgess Owens of Utah and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) hailed the news.

"Never underestimate the power of prayer! Great news for my friend @SteveScalise," Owens tweeted.

"God answers prayer. Great news!" tweeted McCarthy.

Last month, Scalise had announced his cancer diagnosis.

"After a few days of not feeling like myself this past week, I had some blood work done. The results uncovered some irregularities and after undergoing additional tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a very treatable blood cancer," he said in a statement at the time.

"I have now begun treatment, which will continue for the next several months," he noted in the statement. "I am incredibly grateful we were able to detect this early and that this cancer is treatable. I am thankful for my excellent medical team, and with the help of God, support of my family, friends, colleagues, and constituents, I will tackle this with the same strength and energy as I have tackled past challenges."

Scalise survived being shot in 2017 when an individual opened fire at a practice for a congressional baseball game.

He has served as a House lawmaker for a little over 15 years.

"Multiple myeloma is a cancer that forms in a type of white blood cell called a plasma cell. Healthy plasma cells help fight infections by making proteins called antibodies. Antibodies find and attack germs," according to the Mayo Clinic. "In multiple myeloma, cancerous plasma cells build up in bone marrow. The bone marrow is the soft matter inside bones where blood cells are made. In the bone marrow, the cancer cells crowd out healthy blood cells. Rather than make helpful antibodies, the cancer cells make proteins that don't work right."
