Unbelievable: Progressive bride who didn't want conservative uncle at wedding was still counting on the man to send a check
A progressive woman said that she would feel unsafe if her uncle attended her wedding, according to the woman's parent, who detailed the situation when writing to advice columnist.
But apparently the bride had still been counting on receiving a wedding gift from her conservative uncle.
"Dear Amy: Four months before my daughter's wedding, she told me that her uncle (my brother, 'Dave') would make her feel unsafe if he was a guest. She asked me not to invite him," the person wrote. "My daughter is very politically progressive, as are many of her friends, and although she and Dave have always had a good relationship (I thought), he is a conservative voter and has supported candidates we all abhor."
The parent of the bride claimed to have written "a very nice note" informing the man that they would not feel comfortable if he attended and that he was not being invited. The man did not reply. The sibling later sent him a card and photos after the wedding. "I have not heard from Dave since then," the person noted.
"Another problem is that Dave has not sent my daughter and son-in-law a wedding gift. In the past, Dave has given family members wedding checks in excess of $1,000. She says she was counting on receiving the same type of gift," the person wrote. "Dave’s behavior is upsetting and embarrassing to me. How can I get my brother to recognize and change his petty behavior?"
Advice columnist Amy Dickinson suggested that the money issue would "enter the Bridezilla Hall of Infamy."
"Brides who are too afraid of family members to invite them to a family wedding don't then get the pleasure of receiving their money," Dickinson wrote.

Popular Barstool Sports host fired for saying N-word while reading song lyrics
A Barstool Sports host lost his job after he recently read the lyrics of a popular rap song on a live broadcast. The host is white, and the lyrics included the N-word.
On Monday, Ben "Mintzy" Mintz, a skilled poker player from Louisiana, went on air for "Cracking Aces," a Barstool Sports show he frequently co-hosted. During the broadcast, Mintz began rapping "1st of Tha Month," the 1995 smash hit from Bone Thugz-N-Harmony. Fans often quote lyrics from the song on the first day of the month, as Monday happened to be.
And like many rap songs, "1st of Tha Month" contains the N-word. While rapping along, reading the words from his phone, Mintz uttered the N-word out loud and, according to reports, immediately regretted it. He soon afterward took to Twitter and issued a profuse apology filled with hyperbole. "I made an unforgivable mistake," he claimed, insisting he had "never felt worse about anything."
“This morning, I made an unforgivable mistake slipping on air while reading a song lyric. I meant no harm & have never felt worse about anything.

I apologize for my actions. I am truly sorry & ashamed of myself.”— Mintzy (@Mintzy) 1682971511
Unfortunately for Mintz, PENN Entertainment, the company that completed its purchase of Barstool Sports from founder Dave Portnoy earlier this year, had little sympathy for Mintz's apology and forced Barstool to fire him immediately.
Portnoy slammed the decision in a Twitter video, but added that, as the former owner of Barstool, he had no authority to override it. "I’ve been fighting tooth and nail — this is the wrong decision," he said in a six-minute rant.
"[Mintz] knew he f***ed up," Portnoy said. "He’s been super apologetic, like in shambles, basically. I think anybody who watched the clip was like, ‘There’s no way he meant to do that.’ He’s just not the brightest bulb to ever come down the pipe. And he just screwed up. And he knew he screwed up. And there was no hatred behind it. No nothing."
However, Portnoy also explained the situation from PENN's perspective. Portnoy claimed that, as a gambling company, PENN depends on the cooperation of political leaders to maintain its license to operate in various states, and any perceived black mark on PENN could destroy it.
"PENN’s a multibillion-dollar company. Without their licenses, they are a zero-dollar company," Portnoy said. "Investors, families, employees, thousands of people — they believe it’s their job to protect all of this, and the only answer is to fire Ben Mintz."
Portnoy also indicated that many politicians "hate" him personally and would welcome any excuse to harm him. "They f***ing hate me. They hate Barstool. And they look for any lever, any excuse, anything to cause problems for us and pull the licenses," he continued.
In addition, Portnoy claimed that PENN has a "zero-tolerance" policy regarding "stuff like this," ostensibly referring to instances of perceived racism. However, it is unclear whether PENN would have been as concerned with the rap lyric if the racial dynamics of the situation were different.
“Emergency Press Conference - Ben Mintz Has Left the Building”— Dave Portnoy (@Dave Portnoy) 1683149758
Many Barstool fans railed against Portnoy, calling him a "sellout" for handing his company off to global corporatists who often conduct business according to woke narratives. Portnoy embraced those criticisms in a separate video. "I sold out," he confirmed. "You’re just figuring that out? I start a company and I f***ing sold it the f*** out. Made hundreds of millions, made millions for everybody. … Yeah, we sold the f*** out. And that’s what you do when you’re an entrepreneur."
Mintz, who joined Barstool in 2020, stated on Wednesday that he remains "in good spirits" and that he will soon release a video explaining his side of the story.

US Navy photographed retrieving Chinese spy balloon wreckage; 'China is a responsible country' says CCP rep
The Chinese spy balloon that was shot down by American fighter jets was retrieved from the Atlantic Ocean by the U.S. Navy, with photos of the wreckage now circulating online.
An Air Force F-22 took down the Chinese aircraft with an air-to-air missile after the balloon, said to be the length of multiple buses, traversed across the continental United States after entering NORAD airspace in Alaska and then Canada.
The spy device was shot down off the coast of South Carolina at an altitude between 60,000 and 65,000 feet.

The photos, taken by Petty Officer 1st Class Tyler Thompson and released through the Defense Visual Information Distribution Service, showcase an area of debris that spans the size of over a dozen football fields.
"15 football fields by 15 football fields," said General Glen VanHerck, commander of NORAD and U.S. Northern Command.
"I would remind you that due to ocean currents, it's possible that there may be some debris that does float ashore," VanHerck added.
The general reportedly told the media that the balloon was around 200 feet tall, weighing several thousand pounds, with a payload the size of a "jet airliner."
"I will tell you that certainly the intel community, along with the law enforcement community that works this under counterintelligence, will take a good look at it," the general explained.
A second balloon was spotted over Latin America, which the Chinese government also admitted to owning, stating that the balloon was simply lost.
The Foreign Ministry spokesperson for China, Mao Ning, claimed that the unmanned aerial craft was indeed Chinese, but was only "of civilian nature and used for flight test."
Explaining the balloon's course and trajectory, Mao said that it was "affected by the weather and with limited self-steering capability, the airship deviated far from its planned course and entered into the airspace of Latin America and the Caribbean."
The communist country's representative also stated that its government reached out to proper authorities in the appropriate countries regarding the second aircraft.
"China is a responsible country and always acts in strict accordance with international law. We have informed relevant sides. It is being properly handled and will not pose any threat to any country."

'I miss him so much': Candace Cameron Bure and others remember Bob Saget one year after his death
Candace Cameron Bure and others posted about comedian and actor Bob Saget on Monday, marking one year since he passed away.
Saget, who was widely known for his role as the character Danny Tanner on the 1987-1995 sitcom "Full House," passed away unexpectedly last year at the age of 65. He is thought to have died because of "blunt head trauma," likely sustained due to "an unwitnessed fall," according to a medical examiner's press release.
"I stayed up for hours watching videos of Bob on my phone. Videos I couldn't watch a year ago because it hurt too much. Last night they made me laugh," Bure, who played D.J. Tanner on "Full House," wrote in an Instagram post on Monday. "They comforted me and warmed my heart. I watched them over and over and laughed so hard. I miss him so much and I'm grateful he was my friend for so many years. I love you, Bob," she wrote, adding, "*now go hug a friend like Bob would."
Dave Coulier of "Full House" fame also remembered Saget, noting that he missed him and urging people to hug those they love.
"Bob could always bring out the 5th grader in me. I met him when I was just an unknown, 18 year-old standup at a small club in Detroit. We became instant brothers," Coulier noted in an Instagram post. "Sometimes, I still grab my phone, ready to share one of the hundreds of silly bits that we did together. At some point today, I'll think about how much I miss him and I'll shed some tears. Then I'll hear Bob’s voice, and it'll make me laugh. Enjoy the gifts of life while they're still here with you. Tell those you love that you love them…and hug them like Bob Saget."

In a piece at People, Saget's widow, Kelly Rizzo, remembered her late husband as "complicated, brilliant, compassionate, hilarious, neurotic, opinionated, loving, adorable, complex, determined, loyal and sweet."
Jodie Sweetin, who played the role of Stephanie Tanner on "Full House," wrote about Saget in a Monday Instagram post.
"I just wanted you to know, I've thought of you every day for the past year. It’s just not the same without you with us, and I don’t think it ever will feel like that again," Sweetin wrote. "So many times, just in my own life this year, that I wished I could hear you were proud of me. But I hear it anyway. The night I did a show at The Comedy Store, I stood there, in front of your picture, and thanked you. In my mind, We silently chatted. I was nervous, your picture reminded me I didn’t have to be… that you were there. Always. For all of us. I know each person that loves you has so many of those moments they wish you were here for."
Greg Gutfeld has the PERFECT response when Dave Rubin shares 'secret' about this far-left congresswoman
BlazeTV host Dave Rubin joined Greg Gutfeld on his Fox News show "Gutfeld!" recently and soon revealed his "secret" thoughts on Michigan democratic socialist Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. Though Dave didn't seem to be holding much, if anything back, his real opinion was apparently so shocking that he had to write it down on a napkin to keep Greg's #1 most-watched late-night show from getting canceled. Watch Greg's perfect response:
“I’d like to wish Rashida Tlaib a very Happy Rosh Hashanah.”— Dave Rubin (@Dave Rubin) 1664236500
Tlaib has a long history of making anti-Israel, "anti-Semitic," and anti-America remarks, so it's really no wonder that Dave had just a few slightly harsh words for the far-left congresswoman. Many folks on Twitter seemed to agree.

Indianapolis Colts GM cites 'AK-15 automatic weapon' to bash firearms — then expert quickly exposes the glaring problems
Indianapolis Colts general manager Chris Ballard expressed anger over recent mass killings on Wednesday, seemingly promoting gun control in the process.
What did Ballard say?
Speaking at a press conference during the Colts' opening day of training camp, Ballard used the opportunity to journey into political issues and condemn recent mass killings.
"I don’t understand. To me, it’s a lot of common sense and we lack it right now in this country. It’s a shame. Highland Park, Uvalde, Greenwood, Buffalo — when does it end?" Ballard said. "When does some common sense come into play and when does this end? When do our elected officials actually do something about it instead of their own political gain?"
According to Ballard, "both sides are completely wrong," and he condemned the ability of teenagers to obtain "an AK-15 automatic weapon."
"Both sides are completely wrong. I’m not anti-gun, but I’m anti-military-style weapons," Ballard said.
"It blows my mind away that an 18-year-old kid can walk in and buy an AK-15 automatic weapon. It makes no sense. Zero," he continued. "It’s a shame that we live in a country that can’t come to an agreement because of politics on doing the right thing for our country. It makes zero sense. Zero."
“At Training Camp @colts GM Chris Ballard w strong comments about the shooting at the greenwood mall. @WTHRcom”— dave calabro (@dave calabro) 1658848850
What is the problem?
There are two significant problems with Ballard's comments.
First, an "AK-15" firearm does not exist; Ballard appeared to be conflating AR-15 with AK-47. Second, teenagers cannot buy an "automatic weapon." Automatic weapons, which fire in fully automatic mode, are generally outlawed unless you submit to an extensive, expensive, and time-consuming process with the federal government.
Stephen Gutowski, a firearms expert, highlighted the glaring problems with Ballard's comments.
"I have good news for Mr. Ballard, an 18-year-old can not just 'walk in and by an AK-15 automatic weapon.' In part because there aren't 'AK-15s' and in part because new sales of automatic weapons have been banned since 1986," Gutowski explained.
"Dumb comments like these would be easier to stomach if they weren't always delivered with such certainty about what the problem is and how to easily fix it," he added.
'You sons of b***hes': Jordan Peterson refuses to bend the knee to 'toxic' Twitter, says he'd 'rather die' than delete tweet about transgender actor Elliot Page
Jordan Peterson faces a permanent ban on Twitter if he does not delete a tweet about transgender actor Elliot Page. The professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Toronto proclaimed that he would "rather die" than conform to Twitter's rules and delete the tweet in question.
Peterson's tweet posted on June 22 read: "Remember when pride was a sin? And Ellen Page just had her breasts removed by a criminal physician."
In the tweet, Peterson linked to an article titled: "Elliot Page is ‘proud’ to introduce trans character on ‘Umbrella Academy.’"
The article highlighted a new Netflix show "Umbrella Academy," where Page's character switches genders – much like the transgender actor did in 2020.
"The Rubin Report" host Dave Rubin posted a screenshot of Peterson's tweet with the caption: "The insanity continues at Twitter. @jordanbpeterson has been suspended for this tweet about Ellen Page. He just told me he will 'never' delete the tweet. Paging @elonmusk."
“The insanity continues at Twitter. @jordanbpeterson has been suspended for this tweet about Ellen Page. He just told me he will “never” delete the tweet.

Paging @elonmusk…”— Dave Rubin (@Dave Rubin) 1656525787
Twitter said Peterson's tweet violated rules against hateful conduct.
Twitter’s hateful conduct policy states that users may not "promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease."
"We recognize that if people experience abuse on Twitter, it can jeopardize their ability to express themselves," the policy notes. "Research has shown that some groups of people are disproportionately targeted with abuse online. This includes; women, people of color, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual individuals, marginalized and historically underrepresented communities. For those who identify with multiple underrepresented groups, abuse may be more common, more severe in nature and more harmful."
"We are committed to combating abuse motivated by hatred, prejudice or intolerance, particularly abuse that seeks to silence the voices of those who have been historically marginalized," Twitter adds. "For this reason, we prohibit behavior that targets individuals or groups with abuse based on their perceived membership in a protected category."
Twitter suspended Peterson's account, and would not reinstate the account until he deleted the post about the transgender actor.
Peterson's daughter, Mikhalia Peterson, said Twitter is "definitely not a free speech platform at the moment."
“Wow. @jordanbpeterson got a twitter strike. No more twitter until he deletes the tweet. Definitely not a free speech platform at the moment @elonmusk”— Mikhaila Peterson (@Mikhaila Peterson) 1656463707
The best-selling author defiantly responded to his Twitter suspension in a 14-minute-long YouTube video, during the diatribe he said he would not bend the knee to the "toxic" "rat-hole" social media platform.
“I’ve essentially been banned from Twitter as a consequence," Peterson said. "I say ‘banned’ although technically I’ve been suspended. But the suspension will not be lifted unless I delete the hateful tweet in question, and I would rather die than do that. Hopefully, it will not come to that, although who the hell knows in these increasingly strange days."
"Since Twitter did not do me the favor of actually specifying my crime – and there are many possibilities on that front – we, unfortunately, have to guess at why this has occurred," Peterson said. "And that's actually a big problem in and of itself and also indicative of the utter carelessness of the Twitter organization with regard to the propriety of its own sensorial actions."
"I should at least know exactly what I did wrong if I'm required to acknowledge that my tweet violated the Twitter rules," he lashed out. "What rules you sons of bitches? Exactly? Precisely? Because such things matter when the accusations start flying."
Peterson explained, "I don't regard pride as a virtue, it has been classically regarded as a sin."
He questioned why it is called "Pride Month" and is not called "LGBT+ month, or whatever else alphabet acronym which is currently insisted upon as the only acceptable enlightened terminology."
Peterson theorized that referring to Elliot Page as her previous name "Ellen Page" was likely what got his Twitter account suspended.
"I committed the fatal crime of what has come to be known in the appalling sensorial terminology of the insane activists as 'deadnaming,' which is the act of referring to someone who has transitioned – another hated piece of jargon and slogan –by the name and by the inference, the gender, really the sex, that everyone knew them by previously," he stated.
Peterson continued his rant, "And how can I describe the fact that someone who was once a woman and really still is had her breasts cut off because she/he/they/their/they had fallen prey to a viciously harmful fad, without using the appropriate sex link pronoun and the real name of the real person to whom this was really done with his her their voluntary but unfortunate acquiescence."
Peterson declared, "I'm not taking down that tweet or acknowledging that my tweet violated the Twitter rules."
"Up yours, woke moralists. We'll see who cancels who," he blasted. "Twitter's a rat-hole in the final analysis. And I have probably contributed to that while trying to use, understand, and master that horrible, toxic platform."
"It's a relief, in some real sense, to be banned," Peterson concluded. "And I regard that under the present conditions as a badge of honor."

Similarly, the satirical news website Babylon Bee was suspended from Twitter in March. The Babylon Bee was also suspended for "hateful conduct" for writing, "The Babylon Bee's Man Of The Year Is Rachel Levine."
Levine – who is transgender – was named President Joe Biden's assistant secretary of health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in 2021.
Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon proclaimed, "We're not deleting anything. Truth is not hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it."
The official Twitter account has been suspended since March.
