'This isn't free speech': Dee Snider threatens to leave X, sell his Tesla over Elon Musk reactivating Alex Jones' account

Rock legend Dee Snider said that Elon Musk allowing controversial talk show host Alex Jones back on his platform was not free speech, just months after saying that online speech that "hurt people psychologically" was not acceptable.

The Twisted Sister singer, famous for the song "We're Not Gonna Take It," took his opinion to X and utilized use his free speech to condemn the reactivation of Jones' account.

"So [Musk] has let [Jones] back on the platform & sat in on a forum with AJ & a group of other false prophets?" Snider wrote. "This isn't free speech. These are awful people knowingly spreading falsehoods with malevolent intent. It may be time to leave X & sell my Tesla. Standby."

Musk allowed Jones to return to the platform after posting a poll that garnered more than 2 million votes; it asked "Reinstate Alex Jones on this platform? Vox Populi, Vox Dei."

"Vox populi vox Dei" is a Latin phrase meaning "the voice of the people is the voice of God."

After 70% of respondents chose "yes," Jones was promptly reinstated.

So @elonmusk has let @AlexJonesReborn back on the platform & sat in on a forum with AJ & a group of other false prophets?

This isn't free speech. These are awful people knowingly spreading falsehoods with malevolent intent.

It may be time to leave X & sell my Tesla. Standby.

Snider has been an active voice in political discourse in recent years, even specifically addressing Musk and online speech in October 2023. Snider claimed in an interview with a New Jersey radio station that Musk doesn't actually understand free speech.

"There's this idea, and Elon Musk is a champion of it, that free speech is saying anything you want whenever you want. That is not what they meant when they wrote the First Amendment. … You never could say something that could endanger someone's well-being, whether it's physical or mental, with your words," Snider claimed, according to Blabbermouth.

"You can't say things to people or post things online that could hurt people psychologically, mentally and physically destroy their lives. That's not free speech," the artist then stated.

The hair-metal singer also shared his opinion in May 2023 that children have not matured enough mentally to pursue gender transitions.

"I was not aware the Transgender community expects fealty and total agreement with all their beliefs and any variation or deviation is considered 'transphobic,'" Snider wrote after receiving backlash for his comments.

As well, Snider expressed his support for Ukraine in 2020 in regards to the country using his song as an anthem amid the Russian invasion.

"I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using 'We're Not Gonna Take It' as their battlecry [sic]," Snider announced . "My grandfather was Ukrainian, before it was swallowed up by the USSR after WW2. This can't happen to these people again!"

Kiss Frontman Exposes The False Equivalencies Of Transing Kids And Comedic Cross-Dressing

Some criticized Paul Stanley as hypocritical, but cross-dressing in 20th-century entertainment was different than today’s transgenderism.

'I was not aware the Transgender community expects fealty and total agreement': Dee Snider issues statement after running afoul of the militant LGBT movement

Rocker Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame has issued a statement declaring his support for those who identify as transgender, while also expressing his view that children have not matured enough mentally to pursue gender transitions.

Snider recently earned the ire of San Francisco Pride after he expressed agreement with what the organization claimed was a "transphobic statement" put out by Paul Stanley of Kiss.

Stanley had appeared to argue that adults should not encourage kids to identify as the opposite sex. Snider agreed, tweeting, "You know what? There was a time where I 'felt pretty' too. Glad my parents didn't jump to any rash conclusions! Well said, @PaulStanleyLive."

San Francisco Pride announced that plans to have Snider perform had been scrapped, writing, "[W]hen we were notified about the tweet in which Dee expressed support for Kiss’s Paul Stanley’s transphobic statement, we were heartbroken and angry. The message perpetuated by that tweet casts doubt on young trans people’s ability to self-identify their gender." The organization declared, "We have mutually agreed to part ways, but appreciate Dee seeing this as a teachable moment and a reminder that even allies need to be educated to ensure that they are not casually promoting transphobia."

But Snider issued a statement in which he affirmed his support for the LGBT movement, but took issue with its demand for complete agreement.

"I was not aware the Transgender community expects fealty and total agreement with all their beliefs and any variation or deviation is considered 'transphobic,'" Snider wrote. "So, my lifetime of supporting the Transgender community's right to identify as they want and honoring whatever changes they may make in how they present themselves to the world isn't enough? Why not?

"I've recently stated I do not believe young children are ready to decide their gender allocation. I believe their choices should be supported and accepted by their parents, but I do not think kids have the mental capabilities to make rational, logical decisions on things of a magnitude that will affect them for the rest of their lives. I do not believe they are mentally developed enough," he declared.

"The Transgender community needs moderates who support their choices, even if we don't agree with every one of their edicts. For some Transgender people (not all) to accuse supporters, like me, of transphobia is not a good look for their cause," Snider wrote.

San Francisco Pride announces Dee Snider performance has been scrapped after the rocker supported a 'transphobic' statement

San Francisco Pride declared that it had been planning for rocker Dee Snider to perform the Twisted Sister anthem "We're Not Gonna Take It" but that the plan has been scrapped since Snider agreed with a "transphobic" statement issued by Kiss member Paul Stanley.

"San Francisco Pride was on the cusp of announcing Twisted Sister’s 'We’re not gonna take it' as the unofficial rallying cry of this year's SF Pride Parade & Celebration, with the band's frontman Dee Snider performing the song on our center stage. Dee has always been a vocal supporter of LGBTQ+ rights," a press release declares. "However, when we were notified about the tweet in which Dee expressed support for Kiss's Paul Stanley's transphobic statement, we were heartbroken and angry. The message perpetuated by that tweet casts doubt on young trans people's ability to self-identify their gender."

"We have mutually agreed to part ways, but appreciate Dee seeing this as a teachable moment and a reminder that even allies need to be educated to ensure that they are not casually promoting transphobia," the release said.

Stanley issued a statement on Sunday in which he appeared to argue that adults should not encourage children to identify as the opposite sex.

"There is a BIG difference between teaching acceptance and normalizing and even encouraging participation in a lifestyle that confuses young children into questioning their sexual identification as though some sort of game and then parents in some cases allow it," Stanely wrote. "There ARE individuals who as adults may decide reassignment is their needed choice but turning this into a game or parents normalizing it as some sort of natural alternative or believing that because a little boy likes to play dress up in his sister's clothes or a girl in her brother's, we should lead them steps further down a path that's far from the innocence of what they are doing.

"With many children who have no real sense of sexuality or sexual experiences caught up in the 'fun' of using pronouns and saying what they identify as, some adults mistakenly confuse teaching acceptance with normalizing and encouraging a situation that has been a struggle for those truly affected and have turned it into a sad and dangerous fad," Stanley wrote.

Snider retweeted Stanley's statement and expressed agreement on Monday.

"You know what? There was a time where I 'felt pretty' too. Glad my parents didn't jump to any rash conclusions! Well said, @PaulStanleyLive," Snider wrote.

Stanley issued another statement on Thursday.

"While my thoughts were clear, my words clearly were not. Most importantly and above all else, I support those struggling with their sexual identity while enduring constant hostility and those whose path leads them to reassignment surgery. It's hard to fathom the kind of conviction that one must feel to take those steps. A paragraph or two will remain far too short to fully convey my thoughts or point of view so I will leave that for another time and place," Stanley wrote.

"Parents need to be less reactionary; Right and Left. No need to steer the child in either direction. Let the kid figure it out for themselves knowing their family is supportive. I had a vet/cop harda** dad who, while he shook his head A LOT...let me do my thing," Snider tweeted.

Twisted Sister's Dee Snider supports Ukraine using 'We're Not Gonna Take It' as battle cry against Russian invasion

Dee Snider — the outlandish and outspoken frontman for '80s metal band Twisted Sister — tweeted over the weekend that he's all in favor of Ukraine adopting the band's famous anthem "We're Not Gonna Take It" as its battle cry amid Russia's invasion.

"I absolutely approve of Ukrainians using 'We're Not Gonna Take It' as their battlecry," Snider tweeted Saturday. "My grandfather was Ukrainian, before it was swallowed up by the USSR after WW2. This can't happen to these people again!"

Snider added a "F***RUSSIA" hashtag to the end of his missive.

However, when it comes to folks in the anti-mask movement wanting to use "We're Not Gonna Take It" as their own rallying cry, Snider has no love for their cause. Indeed, on Sunday he added the following explanation to his Twitter page:

People are asking me why I endorsed the use of "We're Not Gonna Take It" for the Ukrainian people and did not for the anti-maskers. Well, one use is for a righteous battle against oppression; the other is a infantile feet stomping against an inconvenience.
— Dee Snider🇺🇸 (@Dee Snider🇺🇸) 1645984193

He explained that "one use is for a righteous battle against oppression; the other is [an] infantile feet stomping against an inconvenience."

It's not like Snider can prevent "We're Not Gonna Take It" from blasting through loudspeakers at any given event, so his disagreement has no actual teeth. Rolling Stone said that earlier this month, the song was used at an anti-vaccination protest in New Zealand, and Snider responded by saying “while I may not agree with some of the things it’s used to fight, I can’t pick & choose the ones I want.”

The magazine added that when a similar protest was held in New York, Snider said he's "aware many people representing many causes use ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ as their battle cry. Some I agree with & some I don’t (anti-vaxxers for example) BUT the song was designed for the listener to 'fill in the blank' (what from whom?) with their own cause.”

Anything else?

According to the New York Post, Snider has been openly anti-Russia since the days of the Cold War and commented on a photo of him wearing a “Russia Sucks” button onstage back in the late 1970s.

“My Ukrainian grandpa would have been so proud!” Snider tweeted Sunday.

But when a Twitter user posited that Russian citizens didn't have a choice in the war that President Vladimir Putin started, Snider fired back:

My grandfather was Ukrainian when it was taken over by Russia after WW2. My grandmother was Transylvanian when the Russians took over & occupied the Carpathian mountains. Who do you think were carrying those Russian guns, driving the tanks & flying those planes? Canadians?https://twitter.com/LINY1577/status/1497702056697729026 …
— Dee Snider🇺🇸 (@Dee Snider🇺🇸) 1645915201

Then when a user told Snider she's a young Russian woman protesting against the war and getting arrested for it, Snider agreed to stop using the "F***RUSSIA" hashtag in favor of a "F***PUTIN" one.

“And change will come from the young and young at heart," he added to the twee. "It’s never easy."
