Sabrina Carpenter: Another Disney darling gone to the devil?

I remember her best from "Girl Meets World," the delayed sequel to the Disney classic "Boy Meets World."

I was 11 years old and the 15-year-old girl on my TV named Sabrina Carpenter seemed like the pinnacle of cool — and the epitome of beauty.

When Carpenter’s music video for her single 'Feather' dropped, the outfits were predictably risqué. What I wasn't prepared for was how gory and violent it all was.

I was hooked. I followed her career from Disney to her Netflix movies to her music. I knew all the words to her debut single and listened to the hits from every album release.

Full 'Send'

When I first heard her 2022 album “Emails I Can’t Send,” I was shocked at the contrast with her previous work. The music was catchy, the range of emotion was palpable, and the lyrics had the perfect mix of relatable and made-for-screaming-in-the-car-with-your-girls.

It was instantly on repeat in my car. After that, I was anxiously awaiting the next album.

In the meantime, she was receiving accolades for her style: a throwback, old Hollywood glamour reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. Her hair was always impossibly perfect, her outfits — while provocative — were ultra-feminine. In an era of androgynous pop stars, the way Carpenter leaned into her womanhood was a breath of fresh air.

Disney detachment syndrome

But just before the release of her 2024 chart-topper, “Short n’ Sweet,” I started to notice something change. Sabrina’s image began evolving in the all-too-familiar edgy way that we have come to expect from ex-Disney girls.

In her case, the transformation was particularly disturbing.

When Carpenter’s music video for her single “Feather” dropped, the outfits were predictably risqué. What I wasn't prepared for was how gory and violent it all was. I can’t lie, I was shocked.

The upbeat, cheerful music is paired with a montage of men being run over, beaten bloody, and killed by an elevator. I’m not squeamish, I just don’t understand how that vibes with her girly-pop music genre.

Edgy is as edgy does, I guess.

Altar crawl

The blood spatter was not the most concerning thing, however. In the video's climax, Carpenter attends what is supposed go be a funeral for these men filmed in an actual Catholic church in Brooklyn. Wearing a lace veil and a skimpy black dress, Carpenter gyrates before the altar, which is flanked by a number of pastel coffins.

The pastor who approved the video shoot was demoted and the church reconsecrated.

But that’s not where Carpenter's interest in Christian imagery stops.

When she performed at Coachella this year, she wore an oversized white T-shirt that said “Jesus was a carpenter too.” Both she and her boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, can also be seen wearing a cross necklace in her “Please Please Please” music video.

'Taste' for violence

Her latest music video, “Taste,” indulges in even more violence, this time graphic enough to require a parental advisory. Carpenter and actress Jenna Ortega are impaled, stabbed in the eye, electrocuted, tortured with a voodoo doll, burned alive, stabbed again, dismembered, strangled, and murdered with a chainsaw. In that order.

Don’t worry, they make at the end while at the funeral of the boy they were fighting over.

For a performer who has come to represent retro femininity with her blown-out, bombshell blonde locks and her fabulously girlish outfits, this detour into gore and anti-Christian mockery comes as a bit of a surprise. It could be for shock and awe, or it could be a sign of something more sinister.

X-spresso

While I generally advise mindful consumption, I’m also not one to assume evil intentions in an artist. Carpenter's trajectory from seemingly wholesome entertainer to shameless provocateur, however, is all too familiar. Lil Nas X — who began his career appealing to a young audience only evolve into a literal stripper for the devil — comes to mind.

Maybe if the audience at large had paid closer attention to the warning signs, we could’ve caught that sooner. It seemed so innocuous in the beginning.

I’m not writing off Sabrina Carpenter just yet. It could be that the Disney detachment syndrome is rearing its head as she tries to build her own brand. The pendulum tends to swing too far for the Disney girls, and sometimes they calm down and go on to have perfectly normal careers (Zendaya, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Hilary Duff).

Or she could take a darker turn. Moms, be on the lookout. We just have to wait and see.

Satanic Temple opens abortion clinic in Virginia for its 'destruction ritual'

After helping kill over 100 unborn babies in New Mexico at an average cost of $91 per head, the Satanic Temple has expanded its abortion enterprise to Virginia.

The anti-Christian group, based in Massachusetts, announced on Saturday that it is now offering expectant mothers in the Old Dominion telehealth abortion services and possible travel assistance, noting that patients need only cover the cost of the abortifacient from its California-based partner pharmacy.

While co-founder Lucien Greaves and other proponents of the radical group deny actually worshipping demonic forces — indicating that theirs is effectively an atheistic leftist organization wearing the skin of a satanic cult that just happens to erect statues of Baphomet around Christmastime — the Virginia death dispensary, like the Temple's "Samuel Alito's Mom's Satanic Abortion Clinic" in New Mexico, blurs the lines between role-play and the real thing.

'The ritual, which includes the abortion itself, spans the entirety of the pregnancy termination procedure.'

For women seeking to snuff out the life growing inside them, the Satanic Temple offers an "abortion ritual," which it describes as a "destructive ritual that serves as a protective rite."

The stated purpose of this death ritual is to "cast off notions of guilt, shame and mental discomfort" associated with the extermination of innocent life and to altogether affirm the choice.

"TST's abortion ritual can be performed to address definable concerns or to overcome unproductive feelings," says the ritual guideline. "The ritual, which includes the abortion itself, spans the entirety of the pregnancy termination procedure. There are steps to be performed before, during, and after the medical or surgical abortion."

The radical group makes repeated mention of individual rights and "scientific reasoning" on its site, suggesting that in the case of individual rights, "one's body is inviolable, subject to one's own will alone," and in the case of scientific reasoning that "beliefs should conform to one's best scientific understanding of the world."

However, such statements amount to little more than a rhetorical smokescreen. After all, the Satanic Temple appears keen to overlook the rights of the unborn as well as the scientific reasoning concerning fetal pain, fetal cognitive function, and the separate genetic identity of the unborn child.

'The Satanic Temple's ultimate goal is to undermine Christ's kingdom.'

Erin Helian, the executive director of the Satanic Temple, told the Christian Post that the Virginia death dispensary — which deals in the kind of dangerous chemical abortion pills that effectively killed Amber Thurman in 2022 — was made possible in part by the funding of donors.

The Satanic Temple has been chasing after donations of $66.60 for its burgeoning abortion enterprise.

"As abortion rights continue to be a central issue in the upcoming U.S. presidential election, we remain steadfast in our mission to expand access and protect bodily autonomy," the radical group noted in a release. "We will not stop until we have made a lasting difference."

Helping American women abort their children is not the Satanic Temple's only preoccupation, although it has certainly made a habit of challenging pro-life legislation.

The radical group has also distributed satanic literature to children; publicly performed "unbaptisms"; held a demonization ceremony in protest of the canonization of the Catholic Spanish priest Junípero Serra; promoted euthanasia and pornography; and erected demon statues on government property.

Blaze News' Kevin Ryan recently noted that despite its members' denial, the Satanic Temple's "devotion to Satan — a mythological character, they say — is unmistakable."

"If they were truly godless, they wouldn't fixate so obsessively on Christianity. The Satanic Temple's ultimate goal is to undermine Christ's kingdom," wrote Ryan.

"The Satanic Temple and other movements that promote abortion rights in the name of autonomy are in fact beholden to an anti-freedom," added Ryan. "Christians know that Satan cannot create life — he only destroys. He may offer seductive ideas cloaked in equality or liberty, but his goal is always to eradicate the value of human life, which stands at the core of God's creation."

Florida JetBlue flight diverted after unruly passenger claims to be the devil, punches female companion

A JetBlue flight traveling from Florida to Massachusetts was forced to divert its route and land early after an unruly passenger reportedly punched his female companion and claimed to be the devil.

JetBlue Flight 170 was traveling from Fort Lauderdale to Boston around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. However, the plane was forced to divert its route and land in Orlando after a passenger allegedly started acting in a bizarre and violent way.

Passengers claimed that a man on the plane began making threats and telling people he was the devil. At one point, the male passenger reportedly punched the female companion that was traveling with him.

"I was in front of the plane so I heard no disturbance in the back, but we had one of the flight attendants tell the first few rows that there would be pit stop in Orlando, but they didn't want to make an announcement in case it angered the man," passenger Max Seelig told the news outlet out of Boston.

WCVB-TV reported, "One passenger who was sitting close to the man said flight attendants put the woman who was with the man in the plane's bathroom, and the man was punching the door to try to get her out."

A passenger said, "They put her inside the bathroom, and he tried to punch the door and take her out of the bathroom. It was pretty scary."

Video taken by passenger Leo Ruiz shows the unruly passenger being escorted off the flight by law enforcement after the JetBlue airliner had landed at Orlando International Airport.

After the alarming disturbance, the rest of the passengers had to disembark from the plane in Orlando. The passengers then had to wait for the plane to be refueled, stand by for a new crew to arrive, and then re-board the plane. The plane didn't land in Boston until 4:31 a.m. on Friday, according to the New York Post.

JetBlue allegedly sent an email to the passengers that read: "This disruption is considered an uncontrollable disruption; meaning it's due to events outside of JetBlue's control (things like Air Traffic Control or weather disruptions) and, unfortunately, does not qualify for customer compensation or reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses."

“The individual was intoxicated and transported to local hospital by [Orlando Fire Department] for treatment,” a department spokesperson told the New York Post.

The unruly passenger's name was not released by authorities, and he was reportedly not arrested.

Sen. Mike Lee says Dems' new voting expansion bill is 'as if written in hell by the devil himself'

Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee is not a fan of Democrats' so-named For the People Act of 2021, saying Wednesday that the legislation known as H.R.1 is "as if written in hell by the devil himself."

What are the details?

Lee was asked about the federal voting expansion effort on "Fox & Friends," where co-host Steve Doocy reminded the audience that the measure:

  • Implements mandatory automatic voter registration nationwide
  • Allows voters to substitute a photo ID with a 'sworn written statement'
  • Expands mail-in voting
  • Restores voting rights for convicted felons, and
  • Encourages statehood for the District of Columbia

"What's your biggest problem with the way the Democrats want to redo how we vote in America?" Doocy asked Lee.

"I think I disagree with every single word in H.R. 1, including the words 'but,' 'and,' and 'the,'" the senator replied. "Everything about this bill is rotten to the core. This is a bill as if written in hell by the devil himself."

The Republican from Utah explained, "This takes all sorts of decisions that the federal government really has no business making. It takes them away from the states, makes them right here in Washington, D.C., by Congress — apparently in an effort to ensure and institutional, revolutionary Democratic Party of sorts. One that can remain in power for many decades to come.

"It does this by taking away these decisions," Lee continued. "Elections in America have always been conducted at the state and local level. They are completely flipping that principle on its head so that these things can now be micromanaged from Washington. That's wrong. That's really wrong. It's bad policy."

He added, "As much as anything else, it's wildly unconstitutional."

You may watch Lee's interview in its entirety below. The discussion on H.R. 1 begins at around the 2:20 mark:

H.R. 1 already passed the House in a 220-210 vote last week, and is set to be taken up by the Senate where Democrats are also in control.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) tweeted at the beginning of the month, "Despicable, discriminatory, anti-democratic proposals are on the move in Republican state legislatures. Make no mistake: They must be opposed by every American who cherishes our democracy. This Senate is working to pass the #ForThePeople Act to renew democracy and our elections."
