Upcoming animated Disney movie 'Strange World' features the company's first openly gay teen romance

Disney's upcoming animated movie "Strange World" will feature a storyline of an openly gay teen romance. This is the first openly gay teen relationship showcased in a Disney animated feature.

The movie boasts Hollywood stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gabrielle Union, Lucy Liu, Dennis Quaid, and 27-year-old Jaboukie Young-White.

Disney describes "Strange World" as: "Jake Gyllenhaal lends his voice to Searcher Clade, the son of a steadfast explorer. The original action-adventure journeys deep into an uncharted and treacherous land where fantastical creatures await the legendary Clades, a family of explorers whose differences threaten to topple their latest—and by far— most crucial mission."

Young-White – who is best known for being a correspondent on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah" – voices the character named "Jaeger." Young-White – who is openly gay himself – stars as a gay 16-year-old who has a "boy crush" on another young boy named "Daizo."

Emmy Award-winning producer Matthieu Saghezchi saw a scene from the movie at the Annecy 2022 International Film Festival in southeast France, and called it "very cute."

Saghezchi wrote on Twitter, "It features the first openly gay teen romance in a Disney feature!"

"The scene describes the son being very shy in front of his boy crush, and his dad comes in and says, 'So nice to meet you! my son talks about you all the time,' and further embarrasses his son very cute," tweeted Saghezchi with the hashtag "Representation Matters."

Variety details a scene from the upcoming Disney movie, "Walt Disney screened three sequences from 'Strange World.' In the first, Ethan flirts with heartthrob Diazo while friends from school look on, teasing in a friendly and warm-hearted way. Much to Ethan’s chagrin, his dad Searcher soon joins in, embarrassing his son with an overeager show of acceptance."

Inside the Magic – a website devoted to covering Disney news – noted, "However, as the character Daizo was not announced as part of the key voice cast, it’s safe to assume that their romance might take a bit of a backseat to the fantastical happenings, adventure, and family drama taking center stage."

Disney is still contending with controversy stemming from a same-sex kissing scene in the animated film "Lightyear." The animated children's movie was banned in 14 countries because of the LGBTQ content.

"Lightyear" failed to attract families – only 38% of viewers were families, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The lack of families resulted in the animated movie reeling in $50.6 million in its opening weekend instead of the expected box office returns of $70 to $85 million.

"Strange World"– which is not yet rated – is scheduled to open on Nov. 23.

Disney's 'Lightyear' FLOPS at box office and the left can't figure out WHY

Disney-owned Pixar's latest animated film "Lightyear" was expected to blast off last weekend, but ended up falling way short of box office expectations.

Box office analysts expected the "Toy Story" spin-off to gross $70 million and $85 million domestically and $50-60 million in offshore markets, despite having been barred in at least 14 countries over a controversial same-sex kissing scene, but the film's total haul worldwide wound up at $85.6 million.

Earlier this year, the controversial kissing scene was apparently cut from the film, but the Disney corporation made a show of reinstating it in March amid outrage over Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' (R) Parental Rights in Education bill.

Now, why would such a woke movie flop at the box office on its opening weekend?

"Blame the fact that it doesn’t appeal to girls, blame Disney+ for stealing family moviegoers, blame the lack of an ensemble Toy Story cast, heck, blame everything as Disney/Pixar’s Lightyear didn’t do its magic by internal studio or industry standards this weekend with $51M, close to a third below its lowest $70M pre-release projection," said Deadline.com.

"Variety" lamented that the film's lofty "ambitions were thwarted by heightened competition from Universal’s behemoth 'Jurassic World: Dominion' and Paramount’s high-flying 'Top Gun: Maverick,' as well as little intrigue to watch a slightly esoteric origin story about Buzz Lightyear."

AV Club guessed that maybe "longtime fans have simply grown up and moved on and/or gotten tougher to please."

Both Vanity Fair and Movie Web seemed to think the problem was with the movie's "high concept premise" of making a film based on a film that was supposed to have inspired the Buzz Lightyear toy in "Toy Story."

On the radio program Monday, Glenn Beck, Stu Burguiere, and Pat Gray weren't afraid to call out the obvious reason Disney's latest film fell flat: Parents are just tired of woke politics in their children's movies. It's really not that hard to figure out, Disney.

Mom's 'goodbye' message to Disney goes viral: Disney has 'transformed into a political propaganda machine' that 'grooms children for abortions and sexual promiscuity'

Kristan Hawkins, mother, podcaster, and president of Students for Life of America, says that she and her family are saying goodbye to Disney World and all it entails.

What are the details?

In a fiery op-ed for Fox News, Hawkins said that she's heartbroken over what she describes as Disney's "more progressive" slant.

"Upon watching its newest movie with Pixar entitled 'Turning Red,' it’s clear that the clock has finally struck midnight for Disney’s era of whimsical fairy tales with moral lessons," she wrote. "Gone are the innocent days of 'bibbity-bobbity-boo;' Disney has now transformed into a political propaganda machine that grooms children for abortions and sexual promiscuity — and nothing showcases their regression into a progressive pumpkin better than their new movie."

Hawkins detailed how she believes the new Disney Pixar film — a PG-rated movie about a 13-year-old girl named Mei who turns into a red panda every time she feels passionate emotions — feels "wildly inappropriate in a movie targeting young children like mine" for what she said is its depiction of "sexual tension."

"The adults at Disney create a storyline for the young main character and her fictional friends around their attraction of an older boy dangerously close to being a legal adult at seventeen," she added. "It’s even more appalling when Mei begins to draw this boy in what a 'Turning Red' YouTube account calls 'dirty drawings.' Her drawings include half-naked sketches of him, and, at one point, she crawls under her bed to get all hot and sweaty with her sketchbook of semi-nude scribbles. It would be hard to explain this scene as anything other than masturbation."

Hawkins pointed out that the "abortion lobby" receives a nod from Disney toward the end of the movie when Mei goes out in public as the panda, contradicting her mother's wishes and telling her "my panda, my choice."

"Disney clearly is no longer interested in being a guardian of the innocence of childhood," Hawkins insisted, pointing to leaked comments from Disney leadership about incorporating more queer leads into the company's productions and products. "Instead, by their own admission, Disney leadership is actively pushing children out of Neverland and directly into an adult’s sexualized world, where they can be groomed for others' enjoyment."

"Disney recently spoke out in opposition to Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which would prohibit the discussion of sexual orientation and gender identity in grades Kindergarten to Third," she continued. "But what more can Disney really do? Sexualized content seems to be the new pixie dust at Disney, sprinkled liberally."

She concluded, "Whatever Disney’s future might be, it’s a sad reality that the company is losing its credibility through movies like 'Turning Red.' For parents who proactively monitor what their child is viewing, it’s likely time to say goodbye to today’s Disney if you want to protect your children from the grooming tactics of the left. We’re not dealing with Mickey Mouse anymore."
