Rep. Byron Donalds will challenge Rep. Elise Stefanik for House GOP conference chair role

Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida has announced a bid for the role of House Republican conference chair. The freshman congressman will challenge Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, who currently occupies the post and announced on Tuesday that she plans to run for the position again.

"As one of the most prominent voices of the House GOP agenda, I'm the best candidate to lead an effective communications strategy should Republicans take back the House. In the weeks and months ahead, we must focus on sending Speaker Pelosi packing by electing a wave of America First candidates. I look forward to earning the support of my colleagues for the Chairmanship of the House GOP Conference in the 118th Congress," Donalds said in a statement.

Stefanik — who was tapped for the post last year after the House GOP ousted outspoken Trump critic Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) from the role — issued a statement on Tuesday declaring her intention to run for House GOP conference chair again.

"For the next 56 days, I'm laser-focused on working to ensure we earn a historic Republican Majority. I am proud to have unified the entire Republican Conference around our country in crisis message and shattered fundraising records as House GOP Conference Chair raising over $10M for candidates and committees this cycle. With the broad support of NY21 and my House GOP colleagues, I intend to run for Conference Chair in the next Congress," Stefanik said in a statement.

Stefanik has served as a lawmaker in the House since 2015, while Donalds entered office in 2021 — both legislators are running for reelection during the 2022 midterms.

Rep. Mike Johnson of Louisiana, who serves as House GOP vice chair, expressed his support for Stefanik's bid to remain in the House Republican conference chair role.

"Serving as Vice Chair of @HouseGOP alongside @RepStefanik has been one of the great highlights of my time in Congress. I look forward to continuing our work to retake the majority by promoting the GOP agenda, and I fully support her bid to serve another term as Conference Chair," Johnson tweeted.

Republican Rep. Liz Cheney claims that 'The House GOP leadership has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism'

GOP Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming on Monday accused House Republican leadership of enabling racism.

"The House GOP leadership has enabled white nationalism, white supremacy, and anti-semitism. History has taught us that what begins with words ends in far worse. @GOP leaders must renounce and reject these views and those who hold them," Cheney tweeted.

In response to Cheney's post, former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele tweeted, "Word."

"She's right, you know... " leftist MSNBC host Joy Reid tweeted..

"My colleague has it right," Democratic Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. of New Jersey tweeted. "You can draw a direct line from the dangerous rhetoric and incitement of trump and gop leaders and the violence of rampaging neo-nazis, militia maniacs, Capitol insurrectionists and other rightwing domestic terrorists."

Cheney's tweet came after a white 18-year-old man perpetrated a shooting on Saturday at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York. The attack left 10 people dead, all of whom were black — three others people were wounded, including two white people and one black person, according to the Associated Press. The individual has been arraigned on a murder charge, but has pleaded not guilty.

"How do we know Liz Cheney is correct?" Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California tweeted. "Because @GOPLeader refuses to condemn white replacement theory, which radicalized Buffalo murderer. And MAGA Republican @EliseStefanik ran ads promoting the vile, racist and anti-Semitic replacement theory."

In a statement, Stefanik senior adviser Alex deGrasse has rejected the idea that Stefanik ever promoted racism.

"Any implication or attempt to blame the heinous shooting in Buffalo on the Congresswoman is a new disgusting low for the Left, their Never Trump allies, and the sycophant stenographers in the media," deGrasse said in the statement. "Despite sickening and false reporting, Congresswoman Stefanik has never advocated for any racist position or made a racist statement."

Last year, Cheney was kicked out of a House leadership role. The congresswoman was one of the 10 House Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching then-President Donald Trump in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot. In May, 2021, the outspoken Trump critic was was ousted from her role as House Republican conference chair. Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York was later selected to fill the slot.

Cheney and GOP Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois are the only two Republicans serving on the House select committee tasked with investigating the Jan. 6 episode. The congresswoman, who has served in the House since 2017, is seeking re-election, but Trump has endorsed challenger Harriet Hageman who is vying to defeat Cheney in the GOP primary.

Cheney is the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, who served alongside President George W. Bush.

'This has not aged well': Two-year-old Biden tweet declares, 'Putin doesn’t want me to be President'

Amid the Russia-Ukraine situation, many on the political right have recently been highlighting a two-year-old tweet posted on the account of then-candidate Joe Biden — the tweet declared that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not want Biden to become America's president.

"Vladimir Putin doesn’t want me to be President. He doesn’t want me to be our nominee. If you’re wondering why — it’s because I’m the only person in this field who’s ever gone toe-to-toe with him," the February 2020 tweet declared.

Rep. Elise Stefanik shared a screenshot of the two-year-old post and tweeted, "Hey, @Twitter I would like to report some disinformation."

Blaze Media's Jessica O'Donnell responded to the Biden tweet by declaring, "you didn’t even write this tweet. no one is afraid of you. that’s pretty clear today."

"How embarrassing," Katie Pavlich tweeted

"This has not aged well," the Republican National Committee noted.

The tweet has been dredged up amid the situation currently unfolding between Russia and Ukraine.

According to the New York Times, the Russian president has ordered troops into separatist regions in Ukraine. Putin commanded his defense ministry to send forces to engage in "peacekeeping functions," according to a decree, Reuters reported.

President Biden has announced that the U.S. will levy sanctions against Russia for its actions and declarations.

Republican Rep. Jim Hagedorn dies at 59 years old

Republican Rep. Jim Hagedorn of Minnesota has died, according to his wife Jennifer Carnahan who announced the news in a Friday Facebook post.

"It is with a broken heart, shattered spirit and overwhelming sadness I share my husband Congressman Jim Hagedorn passed away peacefully last night," Carnahan wrote.

Carnahan, who married Hagedorn in 2018, did not mention a cause of death in the Facebook post, but the congressman had been battling cancer for some time. He was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2019 and in a July 2021 statement, Hagedorn announced a reoccurrence of the cancer.

"Over the weekend, recent tests conducted at the Mayo Clinic revealed a reoccurrence of my kidney cancer. The new diagnosis was surprising considering that just 14 weeks ago no cancer was detected," Hagedorn had said in the statement last summer.

The lawmaker, who had been serving in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2019, announced in January that he had tested positive for COVID-19.

"Last night I was informed I tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. I did receive the vaccination and gratefully I am experiencing very mild symptoms," the congressman said in the January statement.

The current makeup of the House now includes 222 Democrats, 211 Republicans, and two vacancies. Aside from the vacancy created by Hagedorn's death, the other vacancy is due to the resignation of former GOP Rep. Devin Nunes of California.

"The entire House Republican Conference mourns the loss of our friend and colleague @RepHagedorn," tweeted House GOP Conference chair Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York. "Jim was a brave and tireless advocate for his constituents throughout his time in Congress. He was a fighter. We pray for his family and community. He will be deeply missed."

Glenn Beck: New Durham report is 'TOTAL VINDICATION' for Trump

Special Counsel John Durham is prepared to argue in court that Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign paid a "tech executive" to spy on the Trump campaign and the White House in order to fabricate the narrative that Donald Trump was colluding with Russia. According to a bombshell new report, there’s now even more evidence criminalizing the Clinton campaign — but still, it’s not enough for the mainstream media to admit such claims or enough for them to even cover the story.

Social media, on the other hand, was all-a-twitter, and the hashtags #TrumpWasRight, #LockHerUp, and #TrumpWasRightAboutEverything have been lighting up the internet.

Special Counsel John Durham reveals that the Clinton campaign paid a technology company to "infiltrate" servers belonging to Trump Tower, and later the White House, in order to link Trump to Russia. #TrumpWasRight\n\nWe will probably not see an apology from this "journalist".pic.twitter.com/zuAcpyAfBA

On The radio program Monday, Glenn Beck broke down the findings of the new Durham report, which he called a "total vindication" of former President Donald Trump. Glenn also explained why he believes Trump was right when he called this revelation proof that Clinton committed a "bigger crime than Watergate."

Gov. Cuomo blasted as a hypocrite for inviting his 89-year-old mother to Thanksgiving dinner

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) let it slip on Monday that he had invited his elderly mother and two of his daughters to dine with him on Thanksgiving Day, sparking backlash and accusations of hypocrisy against the Democrat who has spent weeks telling his constituents to skip family gatherings for the holiday.

Hours later, a Cuomo staffer said the dinner was off, but "don't tell his mom."

What are the details?

The New York Times noted that Cuomo has been "preaching a message of sacrifice during the holidays" and warning New Yorkers against holiday gatherings, reporting: "So it was surprising when Mr. Cuomo announced on Monday afternoon that he had invited his 89-year-old mother, Matilda, and two of his daughters to celebrate a very Cuomo Thanksgiving with him this week in Albany."

"The story is, my mom is going to come up and two of my girls," the governor told WAMC-FM. "But the plans change. But that's my plan."

His admission was met with fury online, and prompted statements of condemnation from New York Republicans.

Rep. Elise Stefanik tweeted, "This is one of the many reasons why Cuomo is the WORST Governor in America. His arrogance and hypocrisy knows no bounds. Do as I say, not as I do. Rules for thee, but not for me. Family for me, but none for you. A despised, hypocritical, tyrannical, hubris-laden Governor."

New York City Councilman Joe Borelli (R) told the New York Post, "The governor lives in an alternate reality."

Borelli added, "Four family members, plus his police detail, cooks, caterers, cleaners, assistants and staff. If these outsiders can come to the governor's mansion for Thanksgiving, as they do on a daily basis, in and out, then it's quite another thing to tell New Yorkers their Aunt Tilly cannot."

Within a few hours, however, a Cuomo aide told Business Insider the Cuomo family's Thanksgiving plans had changed.

"As the Governor said, 'The story is my mom is going to come up and two of my girls is the current plan, but the plans change. That's my plan. I'm going to work — I've got a lot of work to do between now and Thanksgiving,'" senior Cuomo adviser Rich Azzopardi told the outlet. "And given the current circumstances with COVID, he will have to work through Thanksgiving and will not be seeing them."

Azzopardi added, "Don't tell his mom — she doesn't know yet."
