Homeowner shoots break-in suspect with arrow — and instantly intruder is in no condition to continue caper

A crossbow-wielding Michigan homeowner fired an arrow at a break-in suspect and successfully thwarted the early Tuesday morning caper.

Monroe County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to a home in the 4500 block of Huron Street in Frenchtown Township just after 12:30 a.m. after receiving a report concerning a home invasion in progress, WLNS-TV reported. The municipality is about a half hour southwest of Detroit.

'Well, he definitely got the point not to ever do that again.'

The call to authorities indicated two people broke into the home that was occupied by two residents, the station said.

One of the residents shot one of the intruders with an arrow, after which the other intruder fled, WLNS noted.

The intruder who was shot — a 32-year-old male — was taken to a hospital to remove the arrow and undergo surgery, the station said, adding that he was in police custody while he recovers.

Police arrested the other male intruder — a 41-year-old — shortly after the incident and was being held in the Monroe County Jail, WLNS said.

The station said police won't release the identities of the males until they are arraigned.

The sheriff's office said the incident is not believed to have been a random act and appears to have stemmed from a prior altercation between those involved, WLNS said.

How are observers reacting?

Commenters under the station's Facebook post about the incident seemed happy about the outcome:

  • "GOOD!!! Stop breaking the law a-hole," one commenter wrote.
  • "He’ll ya. Get r done," another user declared.
  • "Sounds like somebody F'd A & found out ...." another commenter noted.

Another group of commenters under WXYZ's Facebook post about the incident expressed similar sentiments:

  • "FAFO you decided someone else's property was more valuable than your life the moment you crossed the threshold," one commenter stated.
  • "I love a happy ending," another user wrote.
  • "Well, he definitely got the point not to ever do that again," another commenter quipped.

Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton says if he were president, he'd fire Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin

Democratic Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts said during an appearance on NewsNation that if he were president, he would fire Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin.

Austin was hospitalized on January 1 due to complications following a December prostatectomy that he underwent due to cancer.

But NSC coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby has said that President Joe Biden was informed about the hospitalization on January 4. Kirby also indicated that Biden learned about the cancer on January 9.

Moulton had said in a January 8 statement that Biden "needs to make immediate changes that send a decisive message that this will never happen again."

Austin is still at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to a Friday statement from Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder, who noted that the cabinet official is "in good condition."

"He's in contact with his senior staff and has full access to required secure communications capabilities and continues to monitor DOD's day-to-day operations worldwide," Ryder noted. "Secretary Austin was actively engaged this week in overseeing and directing the U.S. military's participation in last night's multinational strikes against military targets in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen. At the President's direction, he gave the order yesterday to U.S. Central Command to execute the strikes and monitored the operation real-time with a full suite of secure communication capabilities."

Democratic Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania has called for Austin to resign.

Former President Donald Trump opined in a Truth Social post that "Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty."

Asked whether he has confidence in Austin, Biden has said, "I do."

Trump calls for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to 'be fired immediately' while others call for him to resign

In the wake of the recent revelations regarding Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin's hospitalization and the lack of transparency surrounding it, former President Donald Trump has called for Austin's firing while other Republicans have called for the cabinet official to resign.

"Failed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty," Trump declared in a January 7 post on Truth Social. "He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was, or might be. He has performed poorly, and should have been dismissed long ago, along with 'General' Mark Milley, for many reasons, but in particular the catastrophic surrender in Afghanistan, perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our Country!"

Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder announced in a January 5 statement that on January 1, Austin had been "admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for complications following a recent elective medical procedure."

The White House was reportedly notified about Austin's hospitalization later in the week.

In a January 7 statement, Ryder noted that Austin was still at Walter Reed. "Since resuming his duties on Friday evening, the Secretary has received operational updates and has provided necessary guidance to his team," Ryder noted.

In a January 6 statement, Austin said, "I take full responsibility for my decisions about disclosure."

Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Elise Stefanik of New York have been among the Republicans calling for Austin to resign.

"I write to request your immediate resignation as Secretary of the Department of Defense (DoD). Your failure to inform the White House, the National Security Council, and Congress of your hospitalization and subsequent inability to fulfill your national security responsibilties as Secretary in a timely manner is indefensible and unacceptable," Roy declared in a letter to Austin.

"It is shocking and absolutely unacceptable that the Department of Defense waited multiple days to notify the President, the National Security Council, and the American people that Defense Secretary Austin was hospitalized and unable to perform his duties," Stefanik, who is the House Republican Conference chair, said in a statement.

NSC coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby has batted away the notion an Austin ouster, indicating that there is no plan other than for the defense secretary to remain in his role.

Male HS student punches female teacher in head amid massive brawl she tried to break up; teacher hospitalized; student arrested for aggravated assault

A male student was caught on cellphone video punching a female teacher in the head amid a massive brawl at a suburban Philadelphia high school earlier this week. The teacher — who was trying to break up the multi-student fight — was hospitalized, and one student was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

What are the details?

The brawl took place at Norristown Area High School — about 45 minutes northwest of Philadelphia — just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Times Herald reported. West Norriton Township Police Chief Michael Kelly told the paper the fight took place on the school's second floor.

“A fight broke out, and a female teacher intervened, and while she was intervening, another male student struck her in the head,” Kelly said in a phone interview with MediaNews Group, according to the Times Herald.

An unblurred video circulating on social media shows a student kicking a teacher, who's lying on a hallway floor, and then punching her in the head. The teacher then grabs her head with both hands and curls up flush against a row of lockers.

The paper said the teacher was taken to a nearby hospital where she was treated for her injuries. Norristown Area School District Superintendent Christopher Dormer added to the Times Herald that the teacher was “evaluated and sent home the same day.”

No other injuries were reported, the paper said, but Kelly noted that the incident remains under investigation as law enforcement officials review video.

Student arrested

One student was arrested in connection with the brawl and charged with aggravated assault, WPVI-TV reported. Police haven't released the student's name because the student is a juvenile, the station added.

Dormer addressed the incident in a Wednesday letter to parents, saying, "[F]or the first time in all my years as superintendent, I chose to address the entire high school student body over the school's public address system ... all students involved in this incident are subject to the highest levels of school-based discipline, and we are working with local law enforcement to ensure appropriate criminal charges are applied," the station said.

The high school was closed to students Friday due to an unsubstantiated threat related to the brawl, WPVI said, after which some parents said they're concerned about sending their children to the school.

"You don't even want your kid to go to Norristown High, you know? It's getting to that," Norristown resident Tanea Cole told the station. She also told WPVI that the brawl was "disgusting" and that it's "sad that we got teachers coming to teach our kids, and they're getting beat up at school."

Leftists let their hatred flow for hospitalized Justice Clarence Thomas — and even wish for his death: 'Let's hope the infection wins!'

Funny how extremists on the left who so consistently rail against "hate" are only too happy to do so when there's bad news about notable conservatives.

Who can forget how leftists gleefully reacted when conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh died or when former President Donald Trump came down with COVID?

And on cue, out-for-blood leftists were only too happy to heap ill-will upon conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who was hospitalized Friday with a non-COVID infection.

What are the details?

It's not likely too difficult to guess the content of some of the reactions — but here's a sampling anyway from Twitter:

  • "Here’s hoping the infection wins!" one commenter wrote.
  • "I never want to see anyone get sick and die but..." another user said.
  • "I’ve never rooted harder for an infection in my life," another commenter noted.
  • "My condolences to the hospital that has to treat him," another user said.
  • "Let's all pray that God does the 'right' thing, yes that pun was intended," another commenter wrote, along with a "CNN" hashtag. "Clarence has done so much damage to this country and to many people."
  • "Oh please please please let this be him getting his just desserts," another user said.
  • "Hope the Lord calls him home tomorrow," another commenter wrote. "In great pain."
  • "You can absolutely get excited for Clarence Thomas to die," another user said. "Thats not even a question."
  • "Man I sure hope Clarence Thomas briefly recovers and then dies from something more painful," another user said.
  • "Wishing Clarence Thomas a very please f***ing die a painful death," another user wrote.

Anything else?

Unfortunately for the Thomas haters, the Supreme Court noted in a statement Sunday that his condition has been improving, and he should be released from the hospital in a few days.

While Thomas will miss some oral arguments, the court said he will participate in cases he cannot be physically present for through briefs, transcripts, and audio recordings. His temporary absence will not change the balance of the court.

Conservative figures such as evangelical Christian leader Franklin Graham hoped and prayed for Thomas' quick recovery.
