Idaho former teacher pleads guilty to raping boy who was adopted just days before sexual assault

A former Idaho schoolteacher will face prison time after she pleaded guilty to raping a boy who had been adopted just days before she sexually assaulted him.

Jessica Lawson, 36, accepted a plea deal for felony sexual battery and charges of felony rape of a minor, the New York Post reported. Lawson had previously faced charges of felony delivery of a controlled substance and misdemeanor dispensing alcohol to a minor for reportedly giving the 16-year-old boy marijuana and alcohol, but those charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.

'My son is going to take a long time to heal, and he doesn’t even know the wounds that he has yet.'

The judge ordered Lawson to not have contact with the victim for 20 years.

As Blaze News previously reported on the teacher sex scandal, an officer with the Saint Anthony Police Department pulled over a vehicle for having no visible taillights on Nov. 6, 2023. A teen boy was driving the vehicle, but police allegedly determined the car belonged to Lawson.

The teenager told the police officer that Lawson allowed him to drive her car "due to her being too drunk to drive," according to the police report.

The teen admitted to police that he had consumed marijuana, and the officer drove him home, according to court documents.

The next morning, the boy's parents contacted the Saint Anthony Police Department to report that their son had an improper relationship with Lawson.

Lawson was a teacher at South Fremont High School at the time.

The boy allegedly told investigators that Lawson got intoxicated and provided him with marijuana before the pair had sex.

Court documents said Lawson admitted to picking up the teen from his house, taking him to her house, and providing him with alcohol. However, she purportedly denied supplying marijuana to the boy but confessed that she had the drug in her home.

Lawson allegedly denied that "anything else had occurred."

The victim’s father said his child was adopted just days before the crime came to light, and the victim grew up in foster homes.

“It takes a village to raise a young man, especially a young man that has been in and out of foster care, that has never known what it’s like to have a mom and a dad,” the father said in court, according to the East Idaho News. “My son is going to take a long time to heal, and he doesn’t even know the wounds that he has yet. He’s not going to understand those wounds until he’s a parent, and he’s sending his daughter or son … to the house of a parent that he trusts.”

The victim’s mother added, “We brought [the victim] in because he needed somebody, and he didn’t have anybody ... It was pretty quick that we realized this is a really great kid, and he’s wonderful, and he should be in our family.”

The victim's mother also said, "He’s got a lot of problems because he didn’t have a mom and dad that taught him how to recognize safe people." She then told Lawson: "And you took advantage of that ... she knew she could get something from him."

Lawson apologized to the victim, his family, and the community. She blamed an abusive relationship of 15 years for being the “catalyst” for her crimes.

“I alone am responsible for my actions, but I believe [a prior] relationship was the catalyst that set me down the path to where I am today,” Lawson stated. “I want to apologize to the victim and his family for any pain that I have caused. I want to apologize to the community and anyone I’ve let down.”

The boy's parents claimed there was a double standard in the case because Lawson is a female.

Senior District Judge Stephen Dunn retorted, "This is probably the sixth time I’ve dealt with a case like this, where the defendant was a female teacher. Sometimes the victims are male, and sometimes they’re female. There isn’t a double standard. The standards are the same. A person underage does not have the legal ability to consent to this kind of behavior. The responsibility is all on the defendant."

A spokesperson for the Fremont County School District told Law & Crime that Lawson had worked as a high school teacher from 2021 to the spring of 2023.

'Fight for fairness': Idaho governor praises Boise State women's volleyball for forfeiting match against team with male player

Idaho Governor Brad Little applauded the Boise State women's volleyball team for dropping out of a match against a team that features a transgender player.

As Blaze News previously reported, San Jose State University women's volleyball is off to its best start in program history with a 6'1" male player on its team.

The Idaho governor was responding to a statement from Boise State Athletics, announcing the team would "not play its scheduled match at San Jose State on Saturday, Sept. 28."

No formal reason was given by the school.

"I applaud Boise State for working within the spirit of my Executive Order, the Defending Women’s Sports Act," the governor wrote. "We need to ensure player safety for all of our female athletes and continue the fight for fairness in women’s sports.

'Idaho’s hardworking, talented female athletes deserve a fair playing field.'

The governor recently issued an executive order directing the state's board of education to follow all rules in relation to having only women play in female sports.

The executive order, the Defending Women's Sports Act, guarantees female students in Idaho "equal opportunity in sports and school to the fullest extent," per Fox News.

Republican Senator Jim Risch also praised the move from Boise State.

"Kudos to Boise State for taking a stand for women in sports! Idaho’s hardworking, talented female athletes deserve a fair playing field where they can compete and WIN," the senator wrote on X.

Boise State became the second school to withdraw from a game with SJSU.

Southern Utah pulled out of a match after the team told tournament officials they did not want to play against the undefeated squad. It was not confirmed whether transgender player Blaire Fleming was the reason for the cancellation, though.

SJSU and its transgender player, Blaire Fleming, have been shrouded in controversy for weeks, causing several involved in the sport to speak out. The mother of a Nevada Wolfpack player recently expressed concern about her daughter playing against the male athlete.

"They have worked so hard for this, and to have that stripped away, to play with a male athlete, is unthinkable," Idaho mom April Chainey told the Daily Signal.

Chainey's daughter Carissa Chainey is scheduled to play SJSU on October 26.

As well, Fleming's SJSU teammate Brooke Slusser has agreed to join a lawsuit against the NCAA for not protecting women in sports.

Slusser had shared an apartment with the male player (and other females) and was even placed in rooms with Fleming for road games.

550,000 or more illegal aliens could receive amnesty under Biden-Harris admin’s executive order — states respond with lawsuit

The Biden-Harris administration's Department of Homeland Security recently announced the "Keeping Families Together" program, a mass amnesty process for at least 550,000 illegal aliens already residing in the United States.

The federal government claims that the new process demonstrates the Biden-Harris administration's "commitment to promoting family unity in the immigration system."

'Unlawfully creating a program that effectively provides a new pathway to citizenship.'

The program would allow some illegal aliens, including spouses and stepchildren of American citizens, to "request parole in place under existing statutory authority."

If granted parole in place, eligible illegal aliens will be allowed to remain in the U.S. while they request an adjustment of status.

According to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Immigration Services, the administration estimates that 500,000 illegal alien spouses and 50,000 illegal alien stepchildren of American citizens are eligible for the process.

Of the roughly half a million spouses of American citizens, on average, most have resided unlawfully in the U.S. 23 years, the department reported. To be eligible for the program, spouses must have lived in the country illegally since June 2014 and have been married to a citizen since June 2024.

Eligible stepchildren of American citizens must be under 21 years old and be unmarried. They must have been residing unlawfully in the U.S. since June 2024 and have an illegal alien parent who is married to a citizen.

Applicants cannot have a "disqualifying criminal history," which includes such offenses as murder, rape, crimes involving firearms or controlled substances, aggravated assault, child pornography or abuse, and domestic violence. Those convicted of other crimes can "overcome the presumption of ineligibility" by "demonstrating positive factors that can be considered in overcoming this presumption and showing that you warrant a favorable exercise of discretion."

Even illegal aliens currently facing removal proceedings may be eligible for the Biden-Harris administration's program.

"If you have a final unexecuted removal order, non-disqualifying criminal history, or other derogatory information in your case, you may provide additional documentation that you believe demonstrates your parole is warranted based on a significant public benefit or urgent humanitarian reasons, and that you merit a favorable exercise of discretion," USCIS said.

Critics have called the administration's executive order a mass amnesty program.

On Friday, a group of 16 Republican-led states filed a lawsuit in partnership with America First Legal against the federal government to stop the program. States attempting to block the effort include Texas, Idaho, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, and Wyoming.

The lawsuit argues that the administration's claims that the process would impact roughly 550,000 illegal aliens is "likely a significant underestimate," stating that the number could be approximately 1.3 million.

The states claim the program circumvented Congress and would "irreparably harm" their communities.

The complaint accuses the administration of "unlawfully creating a program that effectively provides a new pathway to citizenship for more than a million illegal aliens," according to AFL.

"The coalition also seeks a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to stop the Biden-Harris Administration from proceeding with its plans to provide immediate executive amnesty," it added.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said, "Biden's new parole workaround unilaterally grants the opportunity for citizenship to unvetted aliens whose first act on American soil was to break our laws. This violates the Constitution and actively worsens the illegal immigration disaster that is hurting Texas and our country."
