3,000-person caravan heads to US, hoping to illegally cross southern border before upcoming election

A massive group of roughly 3,000 individuals is reportedly heading to the United States, hoping to illegally cross into the country before the November presidential election, according to the New York Post.

The individuals, soon-to-be illegally in the U.S., are embarking on the journey by foot, scrambling to take advantage of the Biden administration’s open-border policies, which will assuredly be shut down if former President Donald Trump secures a victory in the upcoming election.

The Post reported that the group consists of foreign nationals from a dozen Latin American countries currently making the long trek through Mexico to reach the U.S. southern border, where they plan to make asylum claims and hope to be released into the interior of the country.

'The Republican platform promises to launch the largest deportation operation in the history of our country.'

Trump and his vice presidential pick, Ohio Senator JD Vance (R), have made it clear that their administration has plans to crack down on the current open-border policies that have led to millions of illegal entries over Biden’s tenure.

“Crooked Joe Biden is the Worst President, by far, in the History of our Nation. He has done everything possible to destroy our Country, from our Southern Border, to Energy Dominance, National Security, International Standing, and so much more. He was annihilated in an Earth Shattering Debate, and now the Corrupt and Radical Democrats are throwing him overboard,” Trump wrote in a recent post on social media.

The Biden administration has boasted about its efforts to establish additional so-called lawful pathways to let more foreign nationals into the U.S. at a quicker pace. As part of that effort, the administration launched Customs and Border Protection’s CBP One application, which allows individuals to schedule appointments to make asylum claims at a port of entry.

Miguel Salazar, a 37-year-old El Salvadorian national, told the Associated Press, “We are running the risk that permits (to cross the border) might be blocked.” According to Salazar, most of the individuals headed to the U.S. want to secure an appointment through the CBP One app, which they can only do once they reach Mexico City or states in northern Mexico.

“Everyone wants to use that route,” he stated.

The AP reported that the caravan departed from Ciudad Hidalgo, a city in southern Mexico, on Sunday. Some of the individuals told the news outlet that they have been residing in the city for weeks while they await permits to continue to travel to northern towns.

Oswaldo Reyna, a 55-year-old Cuban national who is traveling with the caravan, rejected Trump’s remarks that illegal aliens are invading the U.S.

“We are not delinquents,” Reyna claimed. “We are hard-working people who have left our country to get ahead in life, because in our homeland we are suffering from many needs.”

During his speech at the Republican National Convention last week, Trump stated, “To keep our families safe, the Republican platform promises to launch the largest deportation operation in the history of our country.”

“We have to stop the invasion into our country that’s killing hundreds of thousands of people a year,” he added. “We want people to come into our country, but they have to come into our country legally.”

A recent report from the AP stated that Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called Trump “a friend” and “a man of intelligence and vision.” He noted that he planned to send a letter to Trump “to prove to him that migrants don’t carry drugs to the United States” and that “closing the border won’t solve anything, and anyway, it can’t be done.”

López Obrador claimed that U.S. manufacturers, including automakers, “wouldn’t last a month with the border closed.”

An attempt to move manufacturing back to America “would mean that on average, each automobile sold would cost U.S. citizens between $15,000 and $20,000 more,” López Obrador said.

Rapes spike 11% in NYC amid illegal immigration crisis, limited police resources: 'Should be a wake-up call'

New York City, a sanctuary jurisdiction for illegal aliens, has experienced an 11% increase in reported rapes this year, according to the New York Post.

The paper revealed that from January 1 through July 14, 880 rapes were reported across the city. New York Police Department data showed that over the same period the previous year, 796 rapes were reported.

'Rate of cases being dismissed has gone up, [and] the rate of cases not being pursued has gone up because of the progressive prosecutorial methods.'

Jane Manning, director of Women's Equal Justice, told the Post that the alarming increase in reported sexual assaults "should be a wake-up call."

"The NYPD needs to allocate more investigators to its understaffed Special Victims Unit so that every case is investigated well and dangerous offenders are apprehended," Manning stated.

In March, the Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York released a statement warning that the NYPD is experiencing a staffing crisis.

PBA President Patrick Hendry told News 12, "No one is becoming an NYPD police officer right now for the long term. They're taking it for a stepping stone to get something better – something with better salary, pensions, quality of life."

The 10th precinct, located in Manhattan, experienced the most significant jump in reported rapes with a 300% increase. Midtown South, which covers Times Square, saw a 111% year-to-date uptick, according to NYPD stats.

While most rapists know their victims, there has been a recent increase in "stranger rapes," the NYPD reported.

One such instance included a caught-on-camera attack on May 21 at East 152nd Street and 3rd Avenue. The assailant walked up behind a woman on the street, threw a belt around her neck, dragged her to the ground, and attacked her between two vehicles, the video showed.

Christian Inga, a 25-year-old foreign national who entered the United States illegally, was accused of raping a 13-year-old girl at knifepoint in New York City on June 13.

Rafael Mangual, a criminal justice policy expert and senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, told the Post, "It's no secret that the NYPD is down significantly in terms of force size. Because it's down, whenever it decides to prioritize something — say for example subway offenses — that's going to make the topside slightly more vulnerable, as far as more cops are now below ground."

Mangual also blamed the uptick in crime on the state's Raise the Age law and soft-on-crime Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

"The rate of cases being dismissed has gone up, [and] the rate of cases not being pursued has gone up because of the progressive prosecutorial methods of Bragg, [Brooklyn DA] Eric Gonzalez, and [Bronx DA] Darcel Clark," Mangual also told the paper.

An NYPD spokesperson told the Post that the department "vigorously investigates every single rape complaint and will continue to work to bring justice to the survivors of these heinous crimes."

Anything else?

Other nonviolent crimes, including retail theft, also have become an issue in New York City since the increase in illegal immigration under the administration of President Joe Biden.

Chris Sciacco, the owner of Kaiya's Pallets at 36-37 31st St. in Long Island City, recently told the Post in a separate story that his business "won't survive" if the rampant shoplifting crisis continues. He claims illegal aliens target his 4,500-square-foot variety store up to six times per week, costing him about $3,000 each month in losses.

"It's affecting the business and affecting our overhead," Sciacco told the paper. "I don't know if we can continue to survive at this rate."

On July 11, one man stole an entire pallet of Gatorade from Sciacco's store, he stated.

"I called [the NYPD] six times, waited over eight hours, and not one cop showed up to help me," he said. "I also tried to flag down over 30 cop cars on the street, and not one stopped to help me or even see what was wrong."

New York's sanctuary policies have prevented local law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal immigration officials. However, the Biden administration's acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director P.J. Lechleitner recently told NBC News that some sanctuary jurisdictions appear to be reconsidering their policies.

"For many, many years, certain states and jurisdictions just have been really reticent about dealing with us because of the civil immigration piece of it," Lechleitner explained. "You've seen some examples of this where some individuals unfortunately were encountered by local law enforcement and because of the policies put in place, either at the state or local level, they weren't allowed to notify immigration authorities ... and all of a sudden you have people being released and reoffending."

He added that "at-large arrests put the citizenry at risk because we have to do an arrest in neighborhoods. We shouldn't have to do that. Let's do it in a controlled setting, so everyone's safe. My folks are safe, the local community's safe, and the non-citizens are safe as well."

Border Patrol sector told to release illegal aliens from most Eastern Hemisphere countries into US

Border Patrol agents in the San Diego sector were recently instructed to release illegal aliens from most Eastern Hemisphere countries into the interior of the United States, according to a memo first obtained by the Washington Examiner.

The internal communication stated that single adults from more than 100 countries in the Eastern Hemisphere who cross into the U.S. illegally through the San Diego sector are to be processed as "NTA/OR," or Notice to Appear/released on Own Recognizance. According to the memo, the individuals are from "hard or very hard to remove countries" that do not cooperate with the U.S.'s deportation efforts.

Illegal aliens from "mandatory referral countries," including Russia, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Moldova, and Kyrgyzstan, are not eligible to be released into the U.S. and request asylum, the memo read.

'This is gaslighting our fellow Americans.'

A senior Border Patrol official told Fox News' Bill Melugin that instruction to allow illegal immigrants from most Eastern Hemisphere countries into the interior of the U.S. was provided only to the San Diego Sector rather than the entire border. According to the official, the illegal aliens will still not be eligible to request asylum.

Department of Homeland Security officials told reporters on Friday that many Eastern Hemisphere countries will not cooperate with the U.S. to take back their citizens, making it difficult to deport the individuals, Fox News Digital reported. Officials stated that they are working with those countries to gain cooperation.

According to the memo, illegal aliens from the Western Hemisphere countries, including Cuba, Nicaragua, Haiti, and Venezuela, are classified as "easy to remove."

San Diego Sector Border Patrol agents received the memo shortly after President Joe Biden announced a new executive order that the administration claims would crack down on illegal entries amid the ongoing immigration crisis at the southern border. Biden's order would temporarily suspend unlawful border crossings after entries reach an average of over 2,500 per day over seven days. The order carves out numerous exceptions, including for unaccompanied minors, individuals judged to be "victims of severe forms of trafficking," people with medical emergencies, and those who schedule an appointment through the Customs and Border Protection's CBP One app.

On Sunday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) told Fox News Digital that the administration's order will "actually attract and invite even more people to cross the border illegally."

"There's no slowing down of people crossing the border. In fact, it's just accelerating. This is gaslighting our fellow Americans. When Biden gets up and says, 'This is going to stop people from coming across the border,' when he says, 'It's going to secure the border,' in fact, it is making illegal border crossings worse," Abbott stated.

Massachusetts to convert prison into shelter for illegal aliens

Massachusetts plans to convert a shuttered prison into an emergency "safety-net" site for illegal aliens, Democrat Governor Maura Healey's office confirmed to WCVB on Saturday.

The Bay State Correctional Center in Norfolk was decommissioned in 2015 but will soon serve as temporary housing for approximately 140 local homeless and illegal immigrant families residing in Massachusetts, the only state with a right-to-shelter law.

The state's emergency shelter system reached capacity at 7,500 families in November.

'All we know is we have got people coming here.'

According to Emergency Assistance Director Scott Rice, the facility is still "in good condition," WCVB reported. Previously a minimum-security prison, the building reportedly features dorm-like rooms, a cafeteria, a gymnasium, a common room, and offices. Residents will have access to showers and bathrooms on each floor.

Rice told the news outlet that the state also plans to create a play area for children and classroom spaces for adults. The facility will host English for Speakers of Other Languages courses, job training, and housing search workshops, he added. Razor wire on the fence that lines the property will be removed, and the facility's gates will remain open.

The emergency shelter should be operational in June. Many of the families who will reside at the facility are currently sleeping at Boston's Logan International Airport, the governor's office stated.

The town of Norfolk told WBZ-TV that it only learned the prison would be converted into shelter space on Friday. On Saturday, Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll briefed the town on the plan.

According to Norfolk officials, the prison will serve as a shelter for illegal immigrants for six to 12 months. They told WBZ they had "no role in this decision" and were "not consulted prior." Officials noted that the plan to turn the prison into a shelter has "many logistical challenges," which they plan to discuss with school leaders and police and fire chiefs.

Jim Lehan, a member of the Norfolk Select Board, stated, "We were taken back a little bit."

"When you have no knowledge of it, and you start getting phone calls about something you have no idea what they are calling about. That was a little tough," he added. "All we know is we have got people coming here and we have got issues that are related to it, and we are going to have to work our way through it."

Lehan noted that the town's elementary school does not have the space to support a large influx of additional children.

The town had meetings scheduled this week with the state to discuss the project's financial costs and who would foot the bill.

In late April, the governor's office announced that it would convert a National Guard armory in Lexington into a shelter for illegal immigrants despite the building's ongoing use.

Paul Craney of the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance told Blaze News, "The responsibility for the migrant crisis Massachusetts is currently facing rests solely with executive and legislative leadership on Beacon Hill. First migrants maxed out our shelter system, then they maxed out hotels which were rented for them, now they've maxed out the overflow sites and are about to encroach upon our national defense installations. Governor Healey has proven time and time again that she is willing to do just about anything except address the root cause of the issue. Until Beacon Hill addresses the factors that are making us a magnet for people around the world, this problem is only going to continue to get worse."

According to a March press release from Healey's office, illegal immigrants residing in the state's overflow shelters must reapply monthly and provide evidence that they are attempting to become independent.

Biden to close border at 4,000 encounters per day, despite previously claiming he might not have 'power' to issue order

President Biden plans to issue an executive order to close the border when Border Patrol reaches 4,000 encounters per day, a White House source told the New York Post on Wednesday.

The administration has weighed taking action to curb the massive uptick in illegal immigration but has repeatedly claimed that Biden might not have the authority to do so.

During an interview in April with Univision's Enrique Acevedo, Biden stated that the White House was "examining whether or not" the president has the "power" under the current legislation to close down the border when encounters reached over 5,000 per day.

'[A] cheap election year ploy.'

"There's no, there's no guarantee that I have that power all by myself without legislation. And some have suggested I should just go ahead and try it. And if I get shut down by the court, I get shut down by the court. But we're trying to work that, work through that right now," Biden told Acevedo.

Biden slammed Republican lawmakers for voting down legislation in February that he claimed would have addressed the crisis at the southern border, in part by adding more Border Patrol officers. Despite being referred to as a border bill, the legislation lumped together massive funding for military aid for Ukraine and Israel, as well as humanitarian assistance for Gaza.

In January, Biden told reporters that he had "done all I can do" to stop the wave of illegal immigration. He called on Congress to "give me the power."

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated in February that "nothing good" was in the so-called border bill.

"All it did was rubber stamp what Joe Biden's been doing for the last three and a half years, all the bad stuff and none of the good stuff," Paxton stated. "The Republicans would have been basically signing on to his failed policies of letting the border be overrun."

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) called the bill a "steaming pile of crap."

My views on the border bill have not been ambiguous.\n\nThe good news: This bill is dead on arrival.\n\nThe border bill is just terrible.
— (@)

Fox News' "The Five" cohost Jeanine Pirro said, "This bill is not a border bill, it's an immigration bill."

"This is all about making sure we have enough people to be able to process the illegals," she remarked.

Biden's planned executive order reportedly mirrors provisions proposed in the failed bill, according to the Post. It is unclear when the order will be announced.

A spokesperson for House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) told the Post that the president's order would "prove" that he had the authority all along and "doesn't need Congress to pass legislation to take action on the border."

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) called Biden's move "a cheap election year ploy," telling the Post that the president "has lost all credibility on the border."

'Democrats are getting rich': Rep. Banks confronts Biden's HHS secretary about NGOs profiting from child trafficking

United States Representative Jim Banks (R-Indiana) recently confronted Biden's secretary of health and human services, Xavier Becerra, about non-governmental organizations raking in massive profits from human trafficking, including child smuggling, due to the administration's open border crisis.

In a statement to Blaze News, Banks said, "Illegal human traffickers are making billions in profits and Joe Biden is sending their NGO accomplices billions of your tax dollars every year. The Biden border crisis is a racket. Democrat activists and Mexican cartels get rich, American taxpayers get ripped off, and foreign children suffer."

'I think that's shameful, it's sickening.'

During the House Committee on Education and the Workforce hearing on Wednesday, Banks pressed Becerra for details regarding the department's policies concerning unaccompanied minors who have been illegally trafficked across the border.

Joe Biden\u2019s cronies and far-left NGOs are getting rich off of child trafficking and the Biden border crisis. It\u2019s sickening!
— (@)

"Mr. Secretary, the number of children who have come across our southern border on your watch and Joe Biden's watch is estimated at 481,535," Banks told Becerra. "The New York Times says that your department has lost contact with 85,000 minors, and that statistic is over a year old, so undoubtedly it has risen in the past year."

In Banks' comments to Becerra, he referenced a report last year from the New York Times, which was based on testimony provided by HHS whistleblower Tara Lee Rodas, who stated that the department has "lost immediate contact with" hundreds of thousands of unaccompanied immigrant children who were smuggled into the country illegally.

"Congressional Research Service says that 75 to 80% of unaccompanied children are now traveling with smugglers, and those smugglers have reportedly sold migrants into situations of forced labor or prostitution — forms of human trafficking — in order to recover their costs," Banks continued. "The Coalition Against Trafficking and Women says that 60% of unaccompanied children caught by cartels and exploited are exploited through child pornography and drug trafficking."

Banks asked Becerra whether it was the Biden administration's policy to return unaccompanied minors to their families in their home country or to send them into the United States to so-called sponsors.

Becerra claimed that the administration is following the laws currently in place regarding asylum claims.

"Let me ask this a different way. If a 15-year-old girl came across the border from, say, Guatemala, would we send her back to her family in Guatemala, or would we keep her in the United States?" Banks questioned.

Becerra replied, "If she requested an asylum hearing, we would, by law, be required to offer her a hearing."

Banks further pressed the HHS secretary about how many unaccompanied minors the Biden administration has returned to their families.

"That would not be something I have information on," Becerra responded. "I'm not gonna speculate, but that's something that you can ask the Department of Homeland Security."

"You and I both know the answer to that's zero. Zero children that you've returned back to [their home] country," Banks remarked.

Becerra stated that the department has to "respect what the law says, and the law says you have to provide someone with an adjudication of their claim for asylum."

A recent report from the Free Press found that NGOs are making substantial profits from the administration's open border crisis, particularly from the trafficking of unaccompanied minors.

Three prominent NGOs, including Global Refuge, Southwest Key Programs, and Endeavors, Inc., have massively increased their combined revenue in recent years. In 2019, the three organizations received $597 million compared to $2 billion in 2022. The CEOs at each of the NGOs make over $500,000 per year.

NGOs received generous federal grants to provide services to unaccompanied minors such as pet therapy, music therapy, and "people-plant interaction" or "horticulture therapy."

Banks questioned Becerra about the administration using massive amounts of taxpayer funds to support the NGOs.

"I think the reason that you're doing this, Mr. Secretary, and your boss, Joe Biden, is because Democrats are getting rich off of it," Banks declared.

"The Global Refuge CEO and NGO that you funnel a lot of money to, her salary is $520,000, and it doubled over three years. The former CEO of an NGO called Southwest Key Programs made three and a half million dollars," Banks continued. "The new CEO makes a million. The CEO of Endeavors, who was an Obama administration aide, made $600,000 in 2022. A former Biden transition official who helped you vet political appointees helped Endeavor secure a $520 billion, no-bid contract. These groups are making hundreds of millions of dollars, and now you are asking us to give you $9.3 billion to funnel to more of these NGOs so that your Democrat friends and donors can get even more rich."

"I think that's shameful, it's sickening, and I'm going to do everything I can to fight against it," Banks told Becerra.

Illegal crossings at northern border sector reach 'record-breaking milestone'

Illegal immigrant crossings at a northern border sector reached a "record-breaking milestone" last month, according to Border Patrol Swanton Sector Chief Patrol Agent Robert Garcia.

Garcia wrote in a social media post on Tuesday that the Swanton Sector experienced a significant increase in illegal alien encounters.

"Another record-breaking milestone in northern border history! Swanton Sector continues to encounter an unprecedented number of undocumented migrants, with well over 1,400 apprehensions in the month of April, surpassing the total number of apprehensions of FY 21 and FY 22 combined," he stated.

'It was a flood we had never seen before.'

The sector witnessed 365 encounters in fiscal year 2021 and 1,065 in 2022, according to Customs and Border Protection data. The following year, that number skyrocketed to 6,925. Over the first seven months of fiscal year 2024, the Swanton Sector has already executed more than 6,500 illegal alien apprehensions. This year is on track to far outpace 2023's record-breaking stats.

From April 28 through May 4, the sector apprehended 492 illegal immigrants, Garcia noted.

"Since 1924, the U.S. Border Patrol has been entrusted with safeguarding the American homeland. Despite a century of changes, Swanton Sector's commitment to upholding our core values of vigilance, integrity and service to country has remained constant," Garcia stated in an April post on X.

The Swanton Sector comprises eight stations that support several counties in New York and New Hampshire and the entire state of Vermont. The area includes 295 miles of border, including 203 miles of land and 92 miles of water boundary.

Champlain Border Patrol agents, who cover one of the sector's eight stations, detained 220 illegal immigrants over just one week in April. The prior month, the station apprehended 158 illegal aliens from 14 different countries, Garcia stated.

Erik Lavallee, the Border Patrol agent in charge of the U.S. Border Patrol Beecher Falls Station in the Swanton Sector, told WBZ-TV in March, "It was a flood we had never seen before. It was an exponential shift, something we were not expecting, and it just hit us hard."

"We understand completely that the northern border issues versus the southern border issues are apples and oranges. However, that being said, having been up in this sector for almost 20 years, I have never seen anything like it," he added.

According to Border Patrol, the vast majority of illegal immigrants crossing the northern border are from India, Bangladesh, Haiti, and Venezuela.

Lavallee told WBZ that most of the illegal aliens are single adult men, many of whom are involved in human smuggling.

"We know there are multiple organizations that are utilizing Canada to smuggle individuals into the United States," he stated.

DA Bragg offers plea deals to illegal aliens charged in vicious mob attack on NYPD cops

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office offered plea deals to six illegal aliens who were charged in connection with the vicious mob attack on two New York Police Department officers in Times Square in January, the New York Post reported.

One of the suspects, 24-year-old Yohenry Brito, was arrested again last week after he was released from jail by an activist Brooklyn priest who posted his $15,000 bail in February. Brito was most recently charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after he allegedly attempted to steal children’s clothing and fragrances from Macy’s.

Bragg’s office requested a $10,000 cash bail, but a Manhattan judge opted to let Brito walk free after his Saturday arraignment.

'I will order a warrant and I will place bail so high, you will not get out.'

Ulises Bohorquez, 21, and Andres Gomez-Izquiel, 19, were also charged in connection with the brutal January attack on police officers. The two males, along with Brito, were offered a plea deal by Bragg’s office to serve one year in jail for second-degree assault.

Kelvin Servita Arocha, 19, and Wilson Juarez, 21, were offered six months in jail for obstructing a government administration.

Bragg’s office offered Yorman Reveron, 24, two years in jail if he pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. At the time of the attack, Reveron already had two open cases for assault and robbery.

A plea offer has yet to be made to Edgarlis Vegas, 20, the Post reported.

None of the suspects have accepted the plea deals yet.

Judge Laura Wood told Brito on Tuesday, “I am furious that Mr. Brito was rearrested and charged with petty larceny while he was out on this case.”

“I am very tempted right now to put you in jail. I am telling you right now, if I learn you are rearrested for anything at all between now and this case being finished, I will order a warrant and I will place bail so high, you will not get out,” Wood continued. “If you jaywalk, if you jump a turnstile, if you do anything at all and I have to issue a warrant, you will not see the light of day until this case is over.”

Surveillance footage from the January attack showed the mob of illegal immigrants kicking and punching two officers in the head and body while they were attempting to detain one of the suspects. The group of males fled the scene on foot.

Boston uses taxpayer funds to support anti-ICE groups providing services to illegal aliens

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announced on Thursday that the city would award taxpayer funds to more than a dozen nonprofit organizations that provide services to illegal aliens, according to a city press release.

"Mayor Michelle Wu and the Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement (MOIA) today announced that the City is awarding $650,000 in grants to 13 nonprofits to increase the capacity of immigrant-serving organizations to provide immigration-related legal services and support the legal needs of immigrant workers," the press release read.

It noted that the organizations will each receive between $10,000 and $100,000 to provide programs to illegal immigrants, including "Know Your Rights training, forms assistance, and legal consultation and representation in immigration and labor violation cases."

The 13 organizations awarded with grants included the Brazilian Worker Center, Center to Support Immigrant Organization/Equity Now and Beyond, Centro Presente, Chinese Progressive Association, Everett Haitian Community Center, Gilbert Albert Community Center, Justice at Work, Lawyers for Civil Rights, Mabel Center for Immigrant Justice, Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition, Rian Immigrant Center, Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice, and Vietnamese American Civic Association, Inc.

'Melt ICE. Smash borders.'

The Immigrant Workers' Rights Grant program, created by the Mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement, will fund the grants through the city's fiscal year 2024 operating budget.

Wu stated, "Boston is a city of immigrants, and we all benefit from the contributions of immigrant communities in our neighborhoods."

"Our immigration system is nearly impossible to navigate alone, so I'm grateful to MOIA and these organizations for helping our immigrant residents better access legal services and much needed supports," she added.

Monique Tú Nguyen, executive director of the mayor's Office for Immigrant Advancement, said expanding the ability to provide legal services will help "ensure that immigrants understand their rights and have the resources to navigate a complex legal system."

The Daily Caller News Foundation reported that several of the organizations selected to receive the funds have been vocally anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement. According to the news outlet, the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition has supported "ending ICE detention agreements."

ICE places detainer requests on illegal aliens whom local and state authorities have arrested for crimes unrelated to their illegal immigration status. The request asks law enforcement agencies to keep the individual in custody up to 48 hours past their release date so that ICE agents can apprehend the suspect and transfer them into federal custody to face immigration proceedings.

Last year, the MIRA Coalition posted on X, "Our immigration system locks up hundreds of thousands of immigrants unnecessarily every year, separating people from their loved ones and exposing them to inhumane conditions of confinement."

The group encouraged Massachusetts residents to vote to prohibit state entities from forming contracts with ICE.

Student Clinic for Immigrant Justice has also made a number of comments against the federal immigration agency, including calling it "racist."

In October, the group wrote on X, "Melt ICE. Smash borders."

"Every time someone is transfered [sic] instead of released is just another example of ICE's cruelty. Free them all and make our communities whole again," the organization wrote in another post.

"When we say that ICE is an institution designed to instill terror and cause suffering, this is exactly what we mean. They can't even figure out how to not deport citizens. You expect them to do anything else right? Yeah, nope!" the group stated.

Rian Immigration Center has previously participated in protests against ICE, according to posts on its X account.

Group of illegal aliens sends list of demands to Denver mayor after refusing to leave encampment for taxpayer-funded shelters

A large group of illegal aliens recently sent a lengthy list of demands to Denver Mayor Mike Johnston (D) after they refused to dismantle their encampment and move into taxpayer-funded shelters, KDVR reported.

Denver Human Services has attempted to move the illegal immigrants into indoor shelter space, but the group has repeatedly rejected the offer. Instead, the individuals have set up tents underneath a bridge by train tracks.

"We are not criminals & won't be treated as such," wrote the group of immigrants who illegally entered the country.

Jon Ewing with Denver Human Services told KDVR, "We've been offering time and shelter, basically just trying to get families to leave that camp and come inside."

Ewing explained that the taxpayer-funded shelters provide "three square meals a day" and allow the illegal immigrants to cook their own meals if they prefer. Additionally, individuals who opt to stay in the shelters are often provided assistance in applying for a work permit.

V Reeves, an advocate for the group, told the news outlet that the illegal immigrants "as a collective came up with a list of demands."

The document sent to the mayor listed 13 demands the city would need to agree to before the illegal immigrants would be willing to get off the street and move into a shelter.

According to KDVR, the demands included:

1. Migrants will cook their own food with fresh, culturally appropriate ingredients provided by the City instead of premade meals – rice, chicken, flour, oil, butter, tomatoes, onions, etc… Also people will not be punished for bringing in & eating outside food.

2. Shower access will be available without time limits & can be accessed whenever – we are not in the military, we're civilians.

3. Medical professional visits will happen regularly & referrals/connections for specialty care will be made as needed.

4. All will receive the same housing support that has been offered to others. They cannot kick people out in 30 days without something stable established.

5. There needs to be a clear, just process before exiting someone for any reason – including verbal, written & final warnings.

6. All shelter residents will receive connection to employment support, including work permit applications for those who qualify.

7. Consultations for each person/family with a free immigration lawyer must be arranged to discuss/progress their cases, & then the City will provide on-going legal support in the form of immigration document clinics & including transportation to relevant court dates.

8. The City will provide privacy for families/individuals within the shelter.

9. No more verbal or physical or mental abuse will be permitted from the staff, including no sheriff sleeping inside & monitoring 24/7 – we are not criminals & won't be treated as such.

10. Transportation for all children to & from their schools will be provided until they finish in 3 weeks.

11. No separating families, regardless of if family members have children or not. The camp will stay together.

12. The City must schedule a meeting with the Mayor & those directly involved in running the Newcomer program ASAP to discuss further improvements & ways to support migrants.

13. The City must provide all residents with a document signed by a City official in English & Spanish with all of these demands that includes a number to call to report mistreatment.

Reeves explained that instead of complying with the group's list of demands, the city sent a bus to the camp to pick up the illegal aliens and move them to an indoor shelter.

"This morning, they sent buses to take people over without presenting that document and without having any kind of signature for accountability," Reeves said.

Reeves claimed that one of the illegal immigrants' most significant grievances has been about the food provided by the city and funded by taxpayers.

"There have been so many complaints about the food being spoiled or not being enough and malnutrition amongst children," Reeves told KDVR. "They're not receiving any kind of official housing or immigration document support, which is incredibly necessary for them to be able to navigate the bureaucracy around these systems."

Ewing explained that the city would provide many of the services the illegal immigrants seek if they left the encampment and moved into a shelter.

"What do you qualify for? What do you not qualify for? What might be something that is a feasible path for you to success that is not staying on the streets of Denver?" he told the news outlet. "We try to compromise. We try to figure something out. You know, at the end of the day, what we do not want is families on the streets of Denver."
