Could Trump’s 3rd indictment mean the END of free speech? Alan Dershowitz weighs in

American lawyer and former Harvard Law professor Alan Dershowitz joins Glenn Beck to discuss the implications of Trump’s third indictment.

“What exactly is Donald Trump being charged with in this latest indictment?” asks Glenn.

“The basic charge is that ... he believed that he had actually lost the election fair and square,” despite his insistence that it was stolen, “and he engaged in all these actions with a corrupt motive,” answers Dershowitz, referencing the January 6 attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

However, he doesn't “think the government’s going to be able to prove that.”

He also doesn’t think the election was stolen from Trump, but if Trump wants to believe that himself, “that doesn’t make a crime,” he tells Glenn.

Further, if they’re going to indict “the man running against the incumbent president who is now tied 44-44 in the New York Times poll, that indictment better be the strongest indictment in American history,” says Dershowitz.

“There should be a smoking gun, fingerprints, a videotaping, a confession,” he continues, “but this document is so flawed; it’s so filled with speculation.”

To make matters worse, the trial is being held in the District of Columbia, where the jury is openly hostile toward anyone and anything connected to Donald Trump.

To avoid bias, “this case should be tried in a purple state,” says Dershowitz, not “in the most Democratic district in the United States of America — the most anti-Trump district in the entire United States.”

And yet it gets even worse.

The judge set to hold the trial “has a very questionable background” and is well-known as “the January 6 hanging judge” for the disproportionately harsh punishments she’s issued to anyone involved in the January 6 attacks.

Regardless of where the trial is held, however, at its core, this case is an attack on freedom of speech.

Quoting Jonathan Turley, Glenn says, “this is the first criminal indictment of alleged misinformation.”’

“I think [Turley’s] right,” says Dershowitz, adding, “the first amendment protects so much speech that we despise,” and, “this indictment takes us down the road toward criminalizing free speech.”

The fact of the matter is, “under our First Amendment, we have extraordinarily broad rights to do the wrong thing, and now President Trump is being indicted for doing what this administration thinks was the wrong thing,” he says.

Glenn: THIS is REALLY why the far left INDICTED Donald Trump

Donald Trump is the first U.S. president to be indicted on federal charges.

While the former president now faces 37 criminal charges on top of the 34 felony charges against him in New York state, the two legal cases haven’t seemed to hurt the former president’s 2024 campaign.

So, what is this really all about?

Glenn Beck thinks he may have some answers.

“Let me just tell you what I think this is really about. This is not really, truly about anything other than one, for those who have truly gone insane,” Beck says, adding that it’s also because Biden is a “wannabe dictator” who puts his enemies in jail.

The indictment came on the same day that it was reported that Joe and Hunter Biden were allegedly given $10 million in bribes by an executive at Ukrainian gas company Burisma.

“This is misdirection,” Beck says.

“It’s about misdirection on the Biden crimes. It is about putting Donald Trump in jail but maybe not for the reason you think,” he continues.

Beck adds that it’s also misdirection when it comes to the economy, the dollar, the war, and “everything that actually matters.”

He likens it to the obsession by our politicians with Pride — saying Pride isn’t really about gay rights, but instead it’s about distracting from real issues.

“This Trump thing is not about Donald Trump. Certainly not about the law,” he adds.

Rather, Beck says, it’s “about enraging enough Americans, period.”

“First of all, you really want to play this game about putting people in jail? You’re going to put him in jail for documents that he had,” yet, Beck says, “you’re still telling us there’s nothing to do with your son? Really?”

Beck believes that in order to combat this attack on Americans, we have to “return.”

“You must stand up and return to God, the gospel, and the Bill of Rights.”

'I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!' Trump says he's been indicted, summoned to appear in federal courthouse next week

Former President Donald Trump announced that his attorneys have been notified that he has been indicted on federal charges.

Trump said in a statement that he has been summoned to appear at a federal courthouse on Tuesday.

"The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax, even though Joe Biden has 1850 Boxes at the University of Delaware, additional Boxes in Chinatown, D.C., with even more Boxes at the University of Pennsylvania, and documents strewn all over his garage floor where he parks his Corvette, and which is 'secured' by only a garage door that is paper thin, and open much of the time," Trump wrote.

"I have been summoned to appear at the Federal Courthouse in Miami on Tuesday, at 3 PM. I never thought it possible that such a thing could happen to a former President of the United States, who received far more votes than any sitting President in the History of our Country, and is currently leading, by far, all Candidates, both Democrat and Republican, in Polls of the 2024 Presidential Election. I AM AN INNOCENT MAN!" he declared.

Trump described the reported indictment as "a DARK DAY" for the nation. He warned that the U.S. is "in serious and rapid Decline," before adding, "but together we will Make America Great Again!"

According to the Associated Press, the indictment stems from a probe regarding whether Trump violated the law by having documents marked "classified" at Mar-a-Lago, and whether the former president sought to obstruct the government's efforts to obtain the records.

The news comes as the 2024 presidential election cycle is currently underway, with Trump decisively leading the pack of GOP primary candidates.

Failed 2018 Florida gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum gets indicted, pleads not guilty

Andrew Gillum, the Democratic candidate who lost Florida's 2018 gubernatorial contest to Republican Ron DeSantis, has been indicted and has pleaded not guilty.

"The Indictment alleges that between 2016 and 2019, defendants Gillum and [Sharon Janet] Lettman-Hicks conspired to commit wire fraud, by unlawfully soliciting and obtaining funds from various entities and individuals through false and fraudulent promises and representations that the funds would be used for a legitimate purpose," according to a press release.

"The Indictment further alleges the defendants used third parties to divert a portion of those funds to a company owned by Lettman-Hicks, who then fraudulently provided the funds, disguised as payroll payments, to Gillum for his personal use. Both defendants are charged with 19 counts of wire fraud. Gillum is also charged with making false statements to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation," the release continues.

Gillum and Lettman-Hicks each pleaded not guilty, according to reports.

"Every campaign I've run has been done with integrity. Make no mistake that this case is not legal, it is political. Throughout my career I have always stood up for the people of Florida and have spoken truth to power. There's been a target on my back ever since I was the mayor of Tallahassee. They found nothing then, and I have full confidence that my legal team will prove my innocence now," Gillum said in a statement.

DeSantis, who narrowly defeated Gillum in 2018, is currently seeking re-election this year during the Sunshine State's gubernatorial contest — the governor, who has become immensely popular on the political right, is widely viewed as a figure who could potentially be a future GOP presidential contender.

According to the New Yorker, former President Donald Trump has said that he is "very close to making a decision" regarding whether to mount another presidential bid. "I don't know if Ron is running, and I don’t ask him," Trump said about DeSantis. "It's his prerogative. I think I would win."
