National Archives misses deadline to turn over info about possible 'political bias' in its handling of Biden document scandal

The National Archives and Records Administration failed to meet the deadline to turn over documents to Congress relevant to an investigation into whether political bias played a role in its soft and quiet approach to President Joe Biden's handling of classified documents.

This failure comes amid concerns that the NARA may be providing deferential treatment to Biden, particularly when compared to how it approached a similar matter involving former President Donald Trump. After all, acting NARA head Debra Steidel Wall was reportedly one of the leading figures who triggered the FBI raid on Trump's residence over allegedly mishandled documents.

What is the background?

Committee Chair Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) wrote to acting Archivist Wall on Jan. 10 concerning "a political bias" at the NARA.

"For months, NARA failed to disclose to Committee Republicans or the American public that President Biden—after serving as Vice President—stored highly classified documents in a closet at his personal office. NARA learned about these documents days before the 2022 midterm elections and did not alert the public that President Biden was potentially violating the law," wrote Comer.

"Meanwhile, NARA instigated a public and unprecedented FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago—former President Trump’s home—to retrieve presidential records. NARA’s inconsistent treatment of recovering classified records held by former President Trump and President Biden raises questions about political bias at the agency," he added.

Comer noted that unlike in the case of Trump, whose residence was raided by armed FBI agents, no search warrant was executed after classified Obama-Biden administration documents were discovered to still be in Biden's possession. Instead, the president's attorneys "quietly" handled the situation with the Department of Justice.

Republicans on the committee wrote to NARA in August, stating, "The seeming weaponization of the federal government against President Biden’s political rivals cannot go unchecked, and if NARA is working to further these efforts, it will be only the latest agency to lose its credibility in the eyes of the American people under the Biden Administration."

Committee member Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) echoed these statements in an op-ed this week, writing, "We can see several systemic failures in oversight that have led to widespread deception," including "the weaponization of a federal agency to hide information from Congress and using the power of the presidency to hide a story until after the midterms."

The committee requested that, by no later than Jan. 24, NARA turn over all documents and communications:

 • between NARA and the White House related to classified documents at the Penn Biden Center;
 • between and among NARA employees related to such classified documents;
 • between NARA and the DOJ related to the documents; and
 • between NARA and any outside entity, including Biden's attorneys.
In his Jan. 10 letter, Comer also clarified that the "Committee on Oversight and Accountability has specific jurisdiction over NARA under House Rule X."

NARA comes up with nada

Jan. 24 came and went, but NARA did not provide the committee with any of the requested documents.

A committee spokesman told Axios, "The National Archives has not produced the requested documents to the Committee at this time," adding that "Chairman Comer's request still stands and anticipates moving forward with a transcribed interview with NARA’s general counsel soon."

Committee Chair Rep. Comer told Newsmax that "there's a problem with how the National Archives does things."

Jonathan Turley, a law professor at George Washington University, told Fox News Digital that the NARA has been "far less prominent" during the Biden scandal than during the DOJ's apparent Trump fault-finding mission, underscoring that it "will need to be more transparent with Congress or risk contempt sanctions."

Derrick Morgan, once staff secretary to Vice President Dick Cheney, suggested NARA's silence on Biden and aggressiveness towards Trump indicates a "double standard."

For its possible double standard, the NARA is now facing double scrutiny from both chambers of Congress.

Ahead of the NARA's failure to meet its deadline, Republican Sens. Ron Johnson (Wis.) and Chuck Grassley (Iowa) penned a letter to head archivist Debra Wall demanding "full transparency regarding its involvement, knowledge and role with respect to the existence of these classified and unclassified documents."

The letter cited various instances where the NARA previously declined to provide records that the Biden administration might otherwise want to keep under wraps, including records pertaining to the Biden family's "financial dealings and potential conflicts of interest" as well as records "about then-Vice President Joe Biden's use of non-government email for government business, the transmission of government information to his son, Hunter Biden, and compliance with federal records laws."

The Republican senators indicated they are conducting an "objective review of NARA's involvement" in these matters as well as its "interactions relating to the discovery of records, including those marked classified" found in Biden's homes and offices.

'It's an embarrassment': Democrats express shame over Biden's apparent mishandling of secret documents

The recent revelations about President Joe Biden's improper retention of top-secret documents have prompted some Democrats to embrace absurd conspiracy theories about who is really to blame. Others have downplayed the severity of the scandal.

A handful of Democrats have now admitted that the recent turn of events painting the Democratic president as a hypocrite are "embarrassing."

What are the details?

Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) told NBC's "Meet the Press" that "it's certainly embarrassing" that Biden should be caught having done precisely what he castigated former President Donald Trump for allegedly doing.

"From my perspective, it's one of those moments that obviously they wish hadn't happened," said Stabenow.

Rep. John Garamendi (D-Calif.) concurred that the debacle ought to be a source of shame, telling "Fox News Sunday" that "It's an embarrassment, no doubt about it."

"I can only – in fact, I don't need to imagine, I know exactly what President Biden said when he was informed that these documents were found in his office in Washington, and that was an 'Oh,' followed by a four-letter expletive," added Garamendi.

Fellow California Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) told ABC's "This Week" that Congress cannot "exclude the possibility" that Biden, through his mishandling of classified documents — more of which turned up over the weekend in the president's Delaware home — compromised national security.

Extra to special counsel Robert Hur's investigation into possible impropriety committed by Biden, Schiff suggested Congress should assess "whether there was an exposure to others of these documents, whether there was harm to national security," but intimated that such an assessment would also be used to look into Trump's handling of classified documents.

“Rep. Adam Schiff, a former chair of the House Intelligence Committee, tells @JonKarl that Attorney General Garland made the right move by appointing a special counsel in Biden documents case.

“I still would like to see Congress do its own assessment.” https://t.co/ndQmL4Gr7U”
— This Week (@This Week) 1673794965

Schiff previously suggested that Trump's storage of sensitive documents in a guarded, locked environment — not a garage — was an indication that the former president was a public menace with a cavalier attitude toward hard-won critical information.

Schiff also penned a letter to the director of national intelligence, stating, "Those entrusted with access to classified information have a duty and an obligation to protect it."

Congress and the security community should "take all necessary steps to protect classified information and mitigate the damage to national security done by its compromise is critically important," Schiff added.

Concerning the investigation into the Democrat president's potential crimes, Schiff said over the weekend, "I'd like to know what these documents were. I'd like to know what the [special counsel's] assessment is, whether there was any risk of exposure and what the harm would be and whether any mitigation needs to be done."

Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) underscored the gravity of the situation.

"Classified documents are to be taken seriously and they are to be handled with a great deal of care, and no one is above the law," Warnock told "This Week," adding, "So I’m glad to see the Justice Department doing its work, and we ought to let that work proceed. … Nobody’s above the law. And we need to get to the bottom of this so that we don’t see this kind of thing happen again."

When pressed on whether the White House — which knew about the classified documents before the midterm elections — should have told the public earlier, Warnock answered, "The Justice Department is engaged in the investigation and that's one of the questions that I think they will explore. And I don't want to get in front of that investigation."

One Clinton campaign veteran told The Hill, "Everyone can say what they want, but this weakens him, full stop. ... This is just one of those things that will stick around and won’t go away."

The Clinton aide added, "It just creates the question. 'If he's being this frivolous with the documents in the garage with his Corvette, who knows what else he's doing?'"

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod told Reuters the Biden scandal was an "embarrassment"; "basically ... a huge gift to Trump."

Not all are convinced that Democrats' expressions of embarrassment and concern over Biden's latest scandal are in any way sincere.

Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) suggested last week that the timely discovery and announcement of these documents and the resultant efforts by Democrats to distance themselves from the president may altogether be "a way to get rid of Joe Biden."

"They don't want this man to run for president again. He's a recipe for disaster in the next presidential election," said Jackson.

“Ronny Jackson says he believes that the Biden docs that were found is part of a conspiracy by Democratic operatives to set Biden up and force him to resign because they don’t want him to run in 2024.”

Trial lawyer Neama Rahmani suggested this is an unlikely strategy, given that the threat of criminal charges would serve as a disincentive for Biden to drop out of the 2024 race.

Rahmani told Newsweek that if Biden "is really worried about being prosecuted, that makes it more likely he will run in 2024, not less."

Whether or not it would be sound strategy, the timing of these revelations has nevertheless prompted some to wonder, especially since the documents have allegedly sat unsecure in various locations, including by Biden's gas-guzzling Corvette, for years.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) tweeted, "What prompted them to look for Joe Biden’s classified documents?"

Despite acknowledging he "could drop dead tomorrow," Biden told MSNBC's Rev. Al Sharpton in September that he was "going to do it again ... I'm going," referencing a 2024 attempt at reelection.

According to the latest Rasmussen Reports/Pulse Opinion Research poll, 52% of the nation disapproves of the job Biden is doing, with 42% strongly disapproving and only 26% strongly approving.

Sen. Ron Johnson: Biden is 'highly compromised' because of Hunter Biden's Chinese influence-peddling

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) underscored on Sunday that President Joe Biden has been "highly compromised" by China. As a result, Biden may have been leveraged and ineffective going into his Nov. 14 meeting in Indonesia with Chinese communist dictator Xi Jinping.

The accusation

On Nov. 13, Fox News' Maria Bartiromo asked Johnson, "How is Joe Biden going to protect America meeting Xi Jinping tomorrow when we know he's taken in all that money from Chinese officials tied to the CCP?"

Bartiromo's suggestion that Biden took money from Chinese officials is partly a reference to allegations that Chinese elites paid an estimated $31 million to Hunter Biden and members of the Biden family.

Johnson replied, "It's obvious that President Biden is highly compromised because of Hunter Biden's influence peddling. ... The FBI's known about this probably going back to 2014, 2015, when you had prosecutions or investigations of Devon Archer, Hunter Biden‘s business partner. This corruption has been going back quite a few years. It needs to be fully exposed.”

TheBlaze previously reported on claims that the president's son and brother had a "lucrative" business deal with the foreign energy company CEFC China Energy, which is connected to the Chinese Communist Party — a deal Hunter Biden said was "interesting for me and my family."

Joe Biden may have kept many of these dealings at arm's length, but his hand was allegedly always open.

The New York Post reported in October that the Biden family allegedly received a $5 million interest-free loan from the Chinese energy conglomerate in 2017.

The Post previously suggested that Hunter may have been receiving a $10 million per year fee from a Chinese billionaire for "introductions alone."

As of Oct. 26, White House spokesman John Kirby still cannot confirm whether Hunter Biden still co-owns an investment firm with the Chinese regime.

Johnson told Bartiromo, "My feeling is that Joe Biden is highly compromised. Why else would we cancel the China Initiative, the DOD program designed to investigate China's theft of our intellectual property from colleges and universities. It made no sense whatsoever."

In February, the Department of Justice announced that it was ending the "China Initiative" program.

The purpose of the program, launched under the Trump administration, was to bolster national security, identify and prosecute "those engaged in trade secret theft, hacking and economic espionage," and to protect critical American infrastructure "against external threats through foreign direct investment and supply chain compromises."

There is only one explanation for the initiative's cancellation, said Johnson: "Joe Biden is compromised."

The Washington Times indicated that Johnson, ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, will have an opportunity this week to grill FBI Director Christopher Wray about the Justice Department's lackluster investigation into Hunter Biden.

Ron Johnson: 'My feeling' is Joe Biden is 'highly compromised' by China youtu.be

Biden's meeting

According to the White House, Biden and Xi spoke candidly about:

 • the need to "maintain open lines of communication";
 • the alleged need to "work together to address transnational challenges — such as climate change, global macroeconomic stability including debt relief, health security, and global food security";
 • "peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait";
 • encouraging North Korea to exercise some modicum of responsibility;
 • "China's non-market economic practices"; and
 • the need to avoid the use of nuclear weapons.
If the White House's account of the conversation is accurate, then Biden did not raise the matter of the communist Chinese police stations performing covert illegal operations in the U.S.; proofs that the CCP has — through the use of Chinese spies and state-sponsored agents — been "trying to disrupt our justice system"; possible CCP attempts to hack American elections; or the Chinese origins of COVID-19.

On Tuesday, retired Gen. Jack Keane told Bartiromo that Biden's meeting with Xi amounted to a "squandered opportunity."

Keaned suggested that China wants "to see political division and social dislocation as a result of their actions, and they should be called on this action. And it's shameful that the president has not taken that action to deal directly face-to-face with President Xi over these issues."

Poll: Biden's favorability drops to new low in May as Americans lose patience with rising costs and inflation

President Joe Biden’s approval rating fell in May to its lowest point since he took office.

According to a poll published by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Research, only 39% of adults in the U.S. approve of Biden’s performance as president.

Overall, only about two in ten adults believe the U.S. is heading in the right direction or that the economy is in a good condition. Fox News reported that in April, about three in ten adults believed both. These drops in favorability were largely concentrated among Democratic voters with just 33% of the president’s own party believing that the country was headed in the right direction, down from 49% in April.

Among Democrats, Biden’s overall approval sits at 73% which indicates a drop from 82% in the same poll from last year. In 2021, Biden never dropped below 82% approval.

Last year, a similar poll conducted by the Associated Press showed Biden had an approval rating of 63% which is 24 points higher than his current approval rating.

Biden’s handling of the economy is one of the largest reasons for his dismal poll numbers as two-thirds of Americans are saying they disapprove of the way his administration has presided over the situation.

According to the poll, only 18% of Americans say that Biden’s policies have helped the economy more than they have hurt it, which is down from 24% in March. At the same time, 51% of Americans say that his economic policies have hurt the economy more than they have helped and 30% of respondents say that Biden’s policies have not made a difference on way or the other.

Biden’s performance in the polls has been slipping since January as several polls conducted across the political spectrum indicate Americans are increasingly frustrated with a wide range of issues stemming from record high gas prices and historic levels of inflation to a nationwide baby formula shortage.

Biden’s poll numbers have suffered hits from constituencies that have historically been reliable voting blocs for Democrats. A recent Quinnipiac poll suggested that Biden’s approval among Hispanics has fallen to 26%, but whether this will affect voting trends remains to be seen. The same Quinnipiac poll conducted a year ago had Hispanic support for Biden at 55%.

The plummeting approval numbers are not confined to Biden, however. Recent polls indicate that Americans are prepared to oust Democrats from Congress. 39% of respondents favored generic Democratic candidates with 46% of respondents favoring generic Republican candidates.

First lady Jill Biden made a surprise Mother's Day visit to Ukraine, White House confirms there are no plans for Joe to travel to Kyiv

First lady Jill Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine this Sunday marking a rare solo as the spouse of a sitting president to visit an active war zone.

Fox News reported that the first lady entered Ukraine by crossing the border from Slovakia on Sunday morning after visiting with Ukrainian refugees at a processing center. Reportedly, she met with Ukrainian first lady Olen Zelenska. The Ukrainian first lady has not been seen in public since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Mrs. Biden said, “I wanted to come on Mother’s Day. I thought it was important to show the Ukrainian people that this war has to stop and this war has been brutal and that the people of the United States stand with the people of Ukraine.”

Zelenska praised her American counterpart for making a “courageous trip” which reportedly occurred as an impromptu stop on the U.S. first lady’s four-day trip to Eastern Europe without her husband.

The first ladies met in a small classroom in front of reporters before holding a private meeting. Zelenska and her children have reportedly remained in an undisclosed location due to safety concerns as Russian officials made it an early priority of their invasion to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and members of his family.

The two women later joined a group of children who live at the school where they met in making tissue-paper bears to give as Mother’s Day gifts.

The first lady’s visit to Ukraine marks the third high profile meeting between U.S. and Ukrainian officials.

In late April U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin met with Zelenskyy to discuss the U.S. federal government’s role in providing the Ukrainian military with more than $300 million in financing. And in early May, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi along with the Democratic U.S. Reps. Jason Crow of Colorado, Jim McGovern of Massachusetts, Gregory Meeks of New York, and Adam Schiff of California met with Zelenskyy to show support for the Ukrainian government.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has also visited Ukraine and held a private meeting with Zelenskyy in the country’s capital city of Kyiv.

President Joe Biden has yet to visit Ukraine or host Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy previously told CNN host Jake Tapper that he thought Biden ought t visit Ukraine because ‘’he is the leader of the United States, and that’s why he should come here to see.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki, however, confirmed that there are no plans to send Biden to Ukraine.

She said, “No. No, we are not sending the president to Ukraine.”

China provides rhetorical cover for Russia and their 'new model of international relations'

In recent days, China has amped up its rhetorical support for Russia in a direct slight to the U.S. and other nations who had hoped that Beijing would opt to condemn Moscow for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.

Zhao Lijian, a spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, “An important takeaway from the success of China-Russia relations is that the two sides rise above the model of military and political alliance in the Cold War era.”

Zhao suggested that China and Russia are able to collaborate so effectively because the countries and their leadership “commit themselves to developing a new model of international relations.”

Bloomberg reported that Zhao made this statement during a briefing Friday in Beijing.

Zhao emphasized that the “model” relationship between China and Russia is predicated on the two countries’ hesitance to cause confrontation between other nations and respecting the sovereignty of other states.

He added that this relationship broke with the “Cold War mentality” displayed by countries allied with the U.S. through geographic blocs like the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

President Joe Biden warned Chinese President Xi Jinping in March that there would be “implications and consequences” if the Chinese government provided any form of material support to their Russian counterparts over the invasion of Ukraine.

To date there has been no indication that China has supported the Russian invasion or helped the country skirt the Western sanctions that torpedoed its economy, but the Chinese government has provided “rhetorical support” for Russia by repeating its propaganda.

The Chinese government also repeatedly states that it will stand by the “no limits” relationship agreement that Presidents Putin and Xi agreed to at a private meeting between the two heads-of-staet before the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.

During this meeting, Xi and Putin agreed to support each other in their respective efforts to expand their borders to include the independent nations of Taiwan and Ukraine, respectively.

The very existence and basis of this dynamic calls into question the validity of claims recently made by Zhao that Russia and China avoid confrontation with other nations on the international stage.

The reality is that the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Chinese government’s blatant hostility towards Taiwan indicate that both nations are, in fact, dedicated to the military conquest of sovereign nations while meddling in their affairs.

Joe Biden agreed to pay more than $800,000 of Hunter's debts including legal fees stemming from business with a Chinese firm

According to a recently surfaced email, President Joe Biden agreed to pay more than $800,000 of the legal bills built up by his son Hunter while he was conducting business with a Chinese firm.

The email contained an attached spreadsheet detailing debts owed by Hunter, which calls into question the validity of his father’s repeated claims about never discussing Hunter’s foreign business dealings with him.

The New York Post reported that the email was sent on January 17, 2019, by Hunter’s former personal assistant, Katie Dodge, and sent to an accountant named Linda Shapero, who founded the firm Global DEEZ in Leesburg, Virginia.

In the email, Dodge wrote, “I spoke with Hunter today regarding his bills. It is my understanding that Hunt’s dad will cover these bills in the short-term as Hunter transitions in his career.”

The email included the greeting “Hello VP team” and was cc’d to Hunter Biden and Richard Ruffner, who was a personal aide to Joe Biden during his tenure as vice president after he left office and while he ran for president.

The spreadsheet attached to the email shows Hunter Biden owing debts that include more than $130,00 in legal fees due “ASAP” to the law firm Faegre Baker Daniels, with $28,382 owed for “BHR Restructuring.”

BHR is believed to be a reference to the Chinese company Bohai Harvest RST (Shanghai) Equity Investment Fund Management, a company in which Hunter Biden held a 10% stake through a holding company called Skaneateles LLC.

BHR is primarily owned by Chinese investors. This includes the Bank of China, which is a government-controlled entity operated by the Chinese Communist Party.

Hunter Biden reportedly owed Faegre Baker Daniels another $20,909 for “Burnham Restructure,” referring to the Burnham Financial Group. Hunter’s former business partner Devon Archer, along with others, invested in this initiative as a plan to create their own financial services conglomerate.

Hunter maintained an office at the New York headquarters of an asset-management firm that was supposed to merge with Burnham as part of a deal called a “roll-up.” Hunter evidently seldom used the office, and the firm never merged with Burnham.

Hunter also owed Faegre Baker Daniels $82,239 for “Confidential Investi” for a total of $131,530.

Other debts listed in the spreadsheet include payments and insurance for a Porsche, a Ford truck, a boat, the tuition for Hunter’s daughters at the University of Pennsylvania and a private day school, and $37,000 per month to his ex-wife Kathleen Buhle.

The spreadsheet also listed a separate section titled “CREDIT CARDS” that included an outstanding balance of $157,033.

More than half of the debts listed on the spreadsheet involved various state and federal taxes, totaling more than $400,000.

Eric Metaxas: Character still counts. 'Trump. Now more than ever'

As a Christian, what do you see as the main argument for Donald Trump in 2020?

That he's not Joe Biden, or Kamala Harris (or whoever she picks for veep when the ref waves his arms signaling it's all over for Joe, which seems imminent). Any Americans who can fathom what will befall this country — and the world — if these principle-free career politicians are elected at this historic moment of crisis could not dream of voting for them. But because mainstream journalists have become proud traitors to their profession — and country — many voters are unaware of what's at stake.

But to answer your question more accurately, Christians believe we should be less concerned about ourselves than about others. We are never merely to think of our self-interest and “Christian issues," but rather to vote for the good of the entire country, and for the future of liberty around the world. So even when we speak of the egregious attacks on religious liberty by the Democrats, we are inevitably thinking of the larger issues of liberty for all Americans. Nonetheless, we might touch on the oft-cited issue of “character," which is of course important to all people of faith, and to Americans in general.

Which brings us to the baffling fact that despite claiming to be a “practicing Catholic," Joe Biden promises to do all he can to expand abortion into the ninth month of pregnancy. We should also remember that it was he who pushed President Obama to legalize same-sex marriage, long before this monumental redefinition of a millennia-old institution was accepted by the majority of Americans. Even more dramatically, Biden would force teaching unscientific transgender ideology to our youngest children, even advocating for 8-year-olds to have gender reassignment surgery if they choose — against their own parents' wishes. For anyone posing as a Catholic, this is an astonishing level of hypocrisy and indicates less someone of “character" than someone of unbridled — and frightening — political ambition.

Christians are commanded to care about the poor, so a robust economy and opportunity are inescapably vital issues. And Biden's demonstrated weakness in standing up to the aggressive cancel-culture socialists and Marxists in his party — to the point of selecting the most radically leftist of all 100 senators as his running mate — will promptly soccer-kick our economy toward Venezuela. This will further devastate the poorest urban communities that his party has claimed — and failed — to represent for five decades, and whose jobs have often gone to the illegal immigrants his party has welcomed with open arms. Nor has Biden done more than give cranky lip-service to law enforcement, despite violent mobs regularly destroying American cities, and harming the very black lives he claims to care about.

A lot of evangelicals cite Trump's tone as a barrier to voting for him. How do you respond?

This is what we call "straining at a gnat to swallow a camel." In other words it is either sheer pietistic lunacy, or it is self-deluding moral contortionism masquerading as a concern for civility. For context, it's worth recalling the “tone" — and “character" — of some much-praised Democratic presidents. LBJ was likely the most foul-mouthed, bullying, and unapologetic hayseed racist ever to occupy the highest office in the land; while his dashing patrician predecessor JFK routinely brought prostitutes into the White House, despite himself also posing as a “Catholic." FDR had a mistress throughout his presidency and with the press' help hid his inability to walk across a room for four terms. Obama only hid his cigarette addiction from voters, but repeatedly and brazenly lied that anyone who wished to keep their health insurance policies could do so, historically increasing government control over our lives. If smooth-talking deception is acceptable, perhaps the straight-talking and sometimes “harsh" Trump is not what we are looking for.

On this subject, we may recall that when running for president in 1988, Biden proudly reeled off a flurry of dramatic whoppers about his academic record, and when caught in these lies was forced to drop out. Which gets us back to the issue of “character." Biden's prolific and serial plagiarism in political speeches is so broadly established that it's never mentioned anymore, nor is it worth mentioning that he committed adultery with his current wife while she was married to another man. But it is worth mentioning the single most consequential and horrifying of Biden's character issues, that he has used his power as a U.S. Senator — since the Nixon administration — and then as VP to funnel millions of dollars in phony “jobs" and “business contracts" to his closest unqualified relatives, some percentage of whose profits appear to have magically snaked their way back to him without leaving any plausibly undeniable trail.

Even worse, he committed these sins with Russia, Ukraine, and China, who is unquestionably our most powerful political adversary, and whose atheist communist dictatorship evilly persecutes anyone of faith, including murdering many Muslim “political prisoners" for their organs, which they then sell at a huge profit to wealthy Saudis. (Ailing Saudi oil sheiks don't wish to use the organs of dirty non-Muslims, and are willing to pay top dollar for the hearts and lungs of young and healthy Uighyur Muslims.) China also generally oppresses it's 1.4 billion subjects with state-of-the-art technology sold to them — or simply stolen from us — under Biden's “watch".

But let's suppose against the dizzying evidence that all of this is merely “Russian disinformation," as if the Russians preferred Trump to Biden, which is inevitably a comedic proposition. Nonetheless, most people of faith would still greatly prefer a sometimes “harsh-toned" ace pilot in the cockpit to a below-average but polite one. The stakes for us all are simply too high.

Some have cited Trump's immigration policies to claim he's not truly pro-life. How do you respond?

I assume such claims are a combination of sophistry and ignorance, and so first of all I guffaw out loud, which is hard to do in a written medium — but some ideas are simply that funny. To those whose best argument is that this president is “racist," we must say that by ending the startling lunacy of “open-borders," Trump is doing the right thing for people on both sides of the border. The ugly facts are that the sadistic and criminal “coyotes" (N.B. not literal animals) make extraordinary profits by smuggling into our country vulnerable women, whom they usually rape, and children, whom they sometimes also rape and who, once in the U.S., they pretend are their own children, often selling both the women and children into sex trafficking. Democrats willingly ignore this concatenation of evils because it suits them politically, knowing most illegal immigrants — when given the chance — will vote for them. This self-serving cynicism is even uglier than the criminal horrors they ignore. Reading the situation correctly and taking action on it has certainly cost Trump politically, as real courage often does.

What issues has Trump championed that should make evangelicals want to choose him in 2020?

This too, is an issue principally of character. Trump in the last election claimed he would appoint “pro-life" justices to the Supreme Court — which no Republican had ever dared to say. Many sneered at this, saying that he would say anything to get elected and would never follow through on any such promises. But he did follow through, and beyond the wildest expectations of any pro-life voters, installing three pro-life justices in four years. He also spoke in person at the March for Life, something no president had the courage to do. So his stance on life is only one reason, it is deeply compelling and dispositive, just as standing against Slavery was in our last election of such unprecedented consequence. And of course some believe that standing against the murder of the unborn is itself alone an issue of “character," whether one claims to be a Catholic or not.

Doing what one promises is also a character issue. Many presidents emptily claimed they would put the U.S. Embassy to Israel in Jerusalem, and shamefully did not. Trump did, despite the “nattering nabobs of negativism" who insisted it would bring about war in the Middle East. In fact, precisely the opposite that has happened. Trump has so dramatically increased peace between Israel and her neighbors that he has earned four Nobel Peace Prize nominations.

He has also creatively and courageously stood up to China, North Korea, and Iran, in the process dramatically reversing the craven and failed policies of the Obama/Biden administration, and putting these rogue nations on notice that America is not to be trifled with. These successes have utterly unhinged the ineffective bureaucrats in the State Department, who prefer presidents to rubber-stamp the antique and flatulent policies they recommend decade after decade.

At America's best moments, those suffering in totalitarian countries have gotten profound encouragement from our bold stand for freedom, and because of Trump's stance they do now. Those suffering in the Soviet gulag similarly drew inspiration when Reagan — also defying the fruitless advice of the Deep Statists — declared “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" Such contrarian and often heroic wisdom is called “leadership", and in this hour we need it especially desperately. Putting it another way, we may recycle a political slogan from the year Joe Biden first won election to the Senate: “Trump. Now more than ever."

Hunter Biden's business group shopped Joe Biden's influence in Colombia in an investment pitch to Chinese energy firm: Report

Hunter Biden's business group highlighted former Vice President Joe Biden's influence in Colombia in 2017 when seeking a $10 million deal with a Chinese energy firm that sought oil investments in the South American country, the Daily Caller reported Tuesday.

The news appears to further corroborate claims made last week by former Hunter Biden business associate, Tony Bobulinski, who alleged that the Biden family "aggressively leveraged" their family name to make millions of dollars from foreign entities, including from communist China.

What are the details?

Included in a 42-page investment proposal sent from Hunter Biden's group, EEIG, to the Chinese firm, CEFC China Energy, is a picture of Joe Biden shaking Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos' hand with a blurb about the United States' newfound "pragmatic" relationship with Colombia under the Obama administration.

"The relationship between Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos and Joe Biden has been a strong one throughout the Obama administration," reads the document, which was obtained by the Daily Caller.

"With this in mind, EEIG has built the framework for partnership between CEFC China and local partners in Colombia, with a solid basis starting at the very foundations of the country's administration," it continued.

The photo of Biden and Santos along with the description of their relationship can be found on pages 27 and 28 of the document.

The sales proposal would go on to list several "target opportunities" for the partnership, which included investing in both an oil field and a port in Colombia, as well as other opportunities in Oman, Romania, and Luxembourg.

According to the Daily Caller, the investment proposal is part of "a trove of records" held by Bobulinski and since turned over to a Senate committee investigating Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings.

What's the background?

Hunter Biden's group, which included his uncle, James Biden, Bobulinski, and three other businessmen — eventually called SinoHawk — ended up not doing business with CEFC China Energy. But according to a Senate report, the firm did secure a separate deal with Hunter and James Biden.

The Senate report said that "on Aug. 8, 2017, CEFC Infrastructure Investment wired $5 million to the bank account for Hudson West III," Hunter Biden's law firm.

The report also noted a significant extortion and counterintelligence risk over the deal, since CEFC's chairman, Ye Jianming, reportedly has ties to the China's military, the People's Liberation Army.

After seeing the report, Bobulinski claimed that it "connected some dots in a way that shocked me — it made me realize the Bidens had gone behind my back and gotten paid millions of dollars by the Chinese, even though they told me they hadn't and wouldn't do that to their partners."

Bobulinski, in a video announcement last week, claimed that Joe Biden was directly involved in the business dealings with CEFC. The former vice president has been adamant that he never discussed his son's overseas business dealings with him.
