Cops arrest 6 children — ages just 11 to 14 — after 3 armed robberies, 2 crashes on interstate highway

Minneapolis police said they arrested six children — three males ages 11, 12, and 13 years old, and three females ages 12 and 14 years old — Tuesday after three armed robberies and a pair of crashes on Interstate 94, KMSP-TV reported.

The station said police responded around 11:30 a.m. to an armed robbery in the 5100 block of 41st Avenue South and a second armed robbery in the 3400 block of Bloomington Avenue.

Police spotted one of the vehicles and tried to pull over the driver who instead fled, which led to a police pursuit that ended in a crash westbound on I-94.

Police said shots were fired at the victim from one of the involved vehicles in the second armed robbery, KMSP reported, adding that no one was hit by gunfire.

A third armed robbery took place around 1:30 p.m. near 24th Street and Pleasant Avenue, the station said.

Due to the three robberies' similarities, police said they activated their "crime pattern response protocol," KMSP reported.

Law enforcement from multiple agencies — including Minneapolis, the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and the Minnesota State Patrol — "began flooding the area" to search for the vehicles involved in the robberies, the station said.

Numerous 911 calls came in about vehicles driving recklessly in Minneapolis, KMSP said. Police spotted one of the vehicles and tried to pull over the driver who instead fled, which led to a police pursuit that ended in a crash westbound on I-94 near Cedar Avenue, the station said.

KMSP, citing the release, said the vehicle's occupants fled on foot — but police "quickly apprehended" four individuals.

A second vehicle — which police said was stolen — was nearby and also crashed, police told the station. With that, two occupants from that vehicle fled on foot and were caught, KMSP said.

The station said three other vehicles were involved in the crashes, but none of the occupants in those vehicles were injured.

KMSP said six juveniles — three males ages 11, 12, and 13 years old, and three females ages 12 and 14 years old — were arrested after the crashes. They were taken to hospitals for evaluations concerning non-life-threatening injuries, the station said.

Police told KMSP the suspects were to be booked into the Juvenile Detention Center.

The arrested 12-year-old male had "multiple prior contacts" with Minneapolis police while the others had "no or limited prior contact" with police and were to be "referred to juvenile diversion programs," the station said, citing the release.

KMSP said police were still investigating each child's involvement in the three robberies and if they were involved in any other criminal activity.

"The fact that I see this activity continuing with children so young — despite all our efforts — is incredibly frustrating and highlights the urgent need for action," Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said, according to the station. "I am grateful for the immediate response of law enforcement in finding and arresting these juveniles before they could cause more harm to members than of our community or themselves."

Males just 12 and 13 years old accused of beating former NY Democratic governor on Manhattan street — and it gets even wilder

A 12-year-old male and a 13-year-old male were arrested Saturday in connection with a physical attack on former New York Democratic Gov. David Paterson and his stepson, police told the Associated Press.

Paterson, 70, and his stepson, Anthony Sliwa, 20, were attacked around 8:30 p.m. Friday while they were walking on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the AP said, adding that they were treated at a hospital for minor facial injuries.

Paterson said his stepson encountered some of the attackers beforehand while walking the family dog.

Paterson is legally blind and suffered bodily injuries, the outlet said, adding that Sliwa is the son of Guardian Angels anti-crime group founder Curtis Sliwa.

The two juvenile males both were charged with gang assault, the AP said, adding that authorities indicated at least five people were involved in the attack.

Paterson was governor from 2008 to 2010 following Democratic Gov. Eliot Spitzer's resignation in a prostitution scandal, the outlet said, which added that Paterson was New York's first black governor.

Paterson said his stepson encountered some of the attackers beforehand while walking the family dog, telling them he would call police if they didn't stop climbing up a Second Avenue building's fire escape, the AP said.

It was after the aforementioned exchange that Paterson said he and his stepson went for a walk, ran into the same group, and an argument ensued before the group attacked Paterson and Sliwa, the outlet reported.

Paterson said his stepson fought off multiple attackers but ended up with a facial cut that required several stitches, the AP said.

Two more arrests

In addition to the pair of arrested juveniles, two adults were arrested Monday in connection with the attack on Patterson and Sliwa.

Travor Nurse, 40, and Diamond Minter, 34 — both New York City Housing Authority workers — were arrested on Second Avenue near East 96th Street, police and sources told the New York Post.

Both suspects were charged with second-degree gang assault, the Post said, adding that Nurse also was accused of punching Paterson and faces an additional assault charge for injuring a victim 65 or older. Both charges are felonies, police told the paper.

A 14-year-old male wasn't charged after police determined he was not an aggressor, the Post said.

The paper, citing sources, added that Nurse previously was arrested in Brooklyn in late July on an aggravated unlicensed operator charge, in addition to other traffic violations. The Post, citing sources, also reported that Nurse was arrested in August 2009 for gun possession.

The paper said it wasn't immediately known if Minter, the other adult arrestee, has previous arrests on her record.

The pair's employer, the New York City Housing Authority, said they're both still employed, the Post said.

“They have not reported to work,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “This is an active NYPD investigation. We don’t have any additional information at this time.”

Parents turn in their kids after LAPD shares nearly 200 surveillance images of 7-Eleven mob robberies by 'youthful males'

A handful of parents turned in their kids after Los Angeles police shared nearly 200 surveillance images of recent 7-Eleven mob robberies by "youthful males."

Blaze News has been reporting about the 7-Eleven heists on bikes. In August, a mob of about 20 individuals pulled off three nighttime smash-and-grab robberies in a span of 20 minutes. Last month, 50 juveniles on bicycles easily ransacked and robbed a 7-Eleven in Los Angeles and escaped police.

Police said 13 of the 14 incidents have occurred on Friday evenings.

Police said the suspects enter the stores in the evening, remove merchandise, damage property, and flee on their bicycles without paying. Police said the incidents have been captured on security surveillance video, and the suspects have been described as youthful males, possibly teens, varying in ethnicity and physicality. Here's cell phone video of one incident.

Police said the suspects on several occasions physically pushed witnesses during the criminal takeovers with "no regard" for others' safety. Police added that although no injuries have been reported, several witnesses "continue to fear for their safety after such aggressive and callous criminal behavior."

Last week police unveiled a more extensive rundown of the "flash robberies" at 7-Elevens, saying they involve 20 to 40 suspects on bicycles who began targeting the stores on July 12. Police said all of the 7-Elevens are within a short distance of each other in the Rampart, Hollywood, Wilshire, and West LA Divisions. Police said 13 of the 14 incidents have occurred on Friday evenings.

What's more, police in their news release last week included nearly 200 images of suspects captured on surveillance cameras from various robberies.

Catching a break

KTLA-TV reported that Assistant LAPD Chief Blake Chow on Tuesday told the L.A. Board of Police Commissioners that the new release generated numerous tips from the public that led to arrests.

KTLA said the day after the news release was published, a parent brought in a juvenile who was involved in one of the robberies, according to Chow. He added that two other parents also turned in their kids on Saturday and Sunday, the station noted, adding that in each instance the child was booked for robbery.

Investigators learned through interviews that many of the juveniles involved in the 7-Eleven flash robberies were not from the neighborhoods where the crimes took place, Chow told KTLA.

More arrests are anticipated as anonymous tips continue to come in and school resource officers work to identify other juveniles involved, he added to the station.

You can view a video report here about the incidents.

Those with information are urged to contact 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247), KTLA said. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go to www.lacrimestoppers.org, the station added. Tipsters may also download the “P-3 Tips” mobile application and select the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers as their local program, KTLA reported.

Mob of 50 teens on bicycles easily ransacks 7-Eleven in LA and escapes cops — the latest episode in apparent criminal trend

A mob of about 50 juveniles on bicycles easily ransacked and robbed a 7-Eleven in Los Angeles late last week and escaped police. It was the latest episode in an apparent criminal trend in the area.

Los Angeles police confirmed to KTLA-TV that about 50 kids just before 7:30 p.m. Friday biked to the convenience store at the 8500 block of West Olympic Boulevard near Beverley Hills, stole items, and fled the scene on their bicycles before police arrived.

In August, a bike-riding mob of about 20 pulled off three smash-and-grab robberies in 20 minutes at Hollywood 7-Elevens within a two-mile radius of each other.

You can view a KTLA video report here about Friday's incident, which includes cellphone video of the robbery.

The clip shows teens — mostly wearing hoodies and dark clothing — jumping off their bicycles in the 7-Eleven parking lot, mobbing their way into the store, and "stealing whatever they could get their hands on, including food and lottery tickets, stuffing their shirts and sweatshirts and pockets with the merchandise," according to the station's reporter.

The deed was done in a matter of minutes, KTLA's video report said, adding that an Instagram account Street People of Beverly Hills also posted videos showing "some of the juveniles covering their faces with hoods and masks as they run in and out of the store, and others are seen laughing as they run back to their bikes with stolen goods."

KTLA said it isn't known how much merchandise was stolen or how much damage may have been caused.

According to KTTV-TV, Friday's caper "is the latest in what seems to be a trend."

In August, a bike-riding mob of about 20 pulled off three smash-and-grab robberies in 20 minutes at Hollywood 7-Elevens within a two-mile radius of each other. Ironically, the crimes occurred on the same day Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed bills into law that were enacted to combat such crimes, KNBC-TV reported.

The station also rolled surveillance video of a similar smash-and-grab by a mob of teenagers at another area 7-Eleven the previous week.

What's more, a mob of about 30 teenagers on bicycles were caught on video brutally beating up and robbing a lone man in downtown Los Angeles in early August. The victim suffered a broken leg — which will require surgery — as well as deep cuts all over his body after getting kicked and punched while on the ground.

Girl, 13, who  witnessed deadly traffic cone beating of 73-year-old man is shot in the face

A 13-year-old girl who witnessed last month's deadly traffic cone beating of a 73-year-old man in Philadelphia was shot in the face Friday, WTXF-TV reported.

What are the details?

The girl was shot in the back of her right ear around 6:45 p.m. in the 5800 block of Osceola Street in Philadelphia, the station said. The bullet traveled through her jaw, and she was said to be in stable condition, police added to WTXF.

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said in a Monday press conference that the girl was present when a group of juveniles attacked James "Simmie" Lambert Jr. in the 2100 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue on June 24, the station reported. Lambert died the next day.

Sources told WTXF the girl wasn't charged in the attack, and they don't believe her shooting is related to or connected to the attack.

"If the evidence indicates that there's some sort of retaliation here or some kind of witness intimidation, something of that sort, we will act on it swiftly," Krasner said.

The station said sources indicated the girl was supposed to talk to the homicide department Friday morning about Lambert's traffic cone beating, but she never showed up. The girl was shot later that evening.

WXTF, citing sources, said the shooting happened when the girl was with two juvenile boys and another girl who was visiting the area — and both of the boys had guns. The station added that investigators are looking into the possibility that the boys were showing off their guns at the time of the shooting.

Anything else?

A 14-year-old girl, Gamara Mosley, and a 14-year-old boy, Richard Jones, are being charged with murder in connection with Lambert’s death, WTXF reported.

The following are images police provided in order to identify suspects:

Police said if you spot teens from the video of the attack on Lambert or from the above images, call 911 immediately, WCAU-TV reported. Those with information about the attack can submit anonymous tips by phone or text to 215-686-8477 or online, the station added.

'Worse than monsters': Two 13-year-old suspects accused in string of physical attacks with larger juvenile gang held on bail

Two 13-year-old suspects accused of physically attacking people and vandalizing businesses in downtown Boston are being held on bail, WFXT-TV reported.

The two suspects are part of a larger group of violent juveniles who've been terrorizing the city in recent weeks.

What are the details?

One suspect was charged with 14 counts in connection with nine incidents and ordered held on $5,000 bail; the other suspect was charged with nine counts in connection with five incidents and ordered held on $3,500 bail, the station said.

Judge Peter Coyne in Suffolk County Juvenile Court on Monday ordered that the pair wear GPS tracking bracelets if they post bail, WFXT reported, adding that Coyne also ordered that they leave home only for school or service provider reasons — and stay away from Downtown Crossing.

'Worse than monsters'

An 81-year-old man named James told the station in a separate story that the marauding group of teens attacked him at a McDonald’s in Downtown Crossing last month.

“They are worse than monsters,” James told WFXT. “These kids don’t care. They are defiant to the law.”

He told the station three girls and one boy taunted him “just for the fun of it" on March 21, knocking a hamburger from his hands and then smacking his head.

“They came straight to me like they know me,” James added to WXTF. “They hit me two or three times and covered my head with whipped cream.” He also told the station "nobody intervened. They were all fraidy cats. This is a disgrace.”

James noted to the station that he's still furious over the incident as the juveniles are connected to more and more violent crime.

“Something’s got to be done," James told WFXT. "It’s a ridiculous situation,” he said.

Indeed the station said some of the repeat offenders continue to roam the streets because they're too young; authorities can’t arrest or prosecute children younger the age of 12 under 2018 state criminal reform legislation — which also provides limited options for detaining anyone under 14.

“They need to change the law where everyone is punished,” James told WFXT. “They’re not innocent! I don’t care what age they are.”

What else have the youngsters been up to?

Last month the same group of juveniles kicked and punched a woman — calling her a "white b***h with braids" — in Downtown Crossing.

WFXT-TV said in a video report that an 11-year-old girl involved in the attack against the woman and against the 81-year-old man at the McDonald's wasn't charged.

Then last Wednesday night, two students from Suffolk University in Boston were physically attacked on Boston Common by the same group of juveniles, WFXT said.

Police believe the main instigator in the attack was that same 11-year-old girl, the station said.

At 6:30 p.m. the juveniles were harassing a woman and her child near the Earl of Sandwich shop on the common, and two Suffolk students tried to help, WFXT said.

“As the woman walked away the group began swearing at her," according to a police report, the station said.

With that, the Suffolk students told the juveniles to leave the woman alone — and then the group took aim at the students, WFXT reported.

“At this point the slim, black juvenile female began punching [her] and knocked her glasses off her face," the police report said, according to the station. "She then stepped on her glasses before punching her again."

One of the students shot video of the incident, WFXT said, adding that police identified the main instigator as an 11-year-old and said she's well known to officers and is responsible for terrorizing unsuspecting citizens of downtown Boston.

But because of her age, the 11-year-old girl won't be formally charged — just issued a summons, WBZ-TV reported. There were were five juveniles in the attacking group on the commons consisting of kids no older than 14, WBZ said.

'Absolutely no fear'

WFXT said video shows the same group of juveniles trying to enter the Silvertone Bar & Grill in Downtown Crossing in late March.

"The really scary part is absolutely no fear," restaurant owner Dave Savoie told WFXT of the juveniles. "Like, the look in their eyes, very matter of fact, a lot of anger."

Savoie told the station they were demanding alcohol, and when he told them to leave, they began yelling at patrons and at him.

"So much profanity and so much crap and harassment," he noted to WXTF. "The one little girl even tried to ... swing at me when I wouldn't let her back down into the restaurant to go after my customers."

After getting the juveniles outside, Savoie told the station one of the girls went after him with a knife; he retreated, but the group then broke windows on the front of the restaurant.

"They just start smashing the windows with whatever they can get their hands on," Savoie added to WXTF.

12-year-old boy charged with murder in fatal shooting of 11-year-old. Mourning mother says, 'These are kids. They should have been playing in a sandbox somewhere'

Police in Clayton County, Georgia, have charged an unidentified 12-year-old boy with murder and various other crimes after he allegedly shot and killed an 11-year-old boy this week.

What are the details?

In a pair of posts on their Facebook page, the Clayton County Police Department said they responded to a shooting incident involving at least two juveniles early Thursday evening near the 6000 block of Westbury Road in Riverdale.

Upon arriving on the scene, they reportedly discovered that an 11-year-old boy, later identified as Elyjah Munson, had been shot. The child died on site.

On Friday, police arrested the 12-year-old for his role in the incident and charged him as a juvenile with a host of crimes — including murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm under 18, and first-degree cruelty to children.

The two boys lived in a nearby apartment complex and had been walking in a group when the shooting occurred, WAGA-TV reported.

Further details regarding the incident are currently sparse as police continue to conduct an investigation.

Police spokeswoman, Officer Halekia Helm, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution: “In an effort to maintain the integrity of this investigation, we are not releasing premature information in reference to this case."

What else?

Reporters from WAGA, however, were able to provide some more information after speaking with the victim's family and neighbors who reportedly witnessed the incident.

The victim's mother, Kendall Munson, told the outlet that the incident happened as a result of an argument between the two boys.

She noted that she had moved with her children out of Chicago at her parents' request. She was trying to flee violence in the Windy City but it ultimately followed her family to Georgia.

Munson added that her other son, who is just 12 years old, witnessed the shooting.

"He witnessed it and he just kept saying, ‘They left my brother lying there.’ This is crazy," Munson said.

In response to the announcement of charges on Friday, Munson, overcome with grief, expressed mixed feelings.

"I honestly don't know how to feel. That baby is 12. My baby is 11. These are kids," she said. "They should have been playing in a sandbox somewhere."

Anything else?

Neighbor Jerry Shepherd told WAGA that he and his wife also witnessed the fatal shooting. He reported that "one of them was saying, ‘You play too much man,’ and he pulled out a gun and shot him in the head."

Police are reportedly now working to find out more information about the charged 12-year-old and his family. Of particular interest is how exactly the child obtained a gun, who the owner of the gun is, and whether or not that person will be charged.

This is a developing story and may be updated.

Video: Mob of thugs descend upon apparent Chicago bus driver, tackle him to street, repeatedly punch and stomp him

Video circulating on social media shows what appears to be a Chicago Transit Authority bus driver getting swarmed by a mob of thugs, tackled to the street, and repeatedly punched and stomped over the weekend in the popular downtown shopping area known as the Loop.

What are the details?

The clip shows the apparent driver standing outside a bus and facing one individual as a crowd gathers around them. One person is heard telling the driver he'd "better get back on that bus!"

Suddenly the apparent driver seems to push with his left hand the individual facing him, and that individual appears to move away. Second later screams are heard and a fight breaks out.

The apparent driver has the upper hand at first, grabbing and pushing one male backward for a considerable distance.

What else do we know?

Chicago police said a 49-year-old CTA bus driver was traveling in the Loop around 9 p.m. Saturday when he heard a loud noise, WFLD-TV reported, after which the driver stopped the bus to inspect it.

While the driver was doing this, police told the station a male and female began to push the driver and then punched the driver multiple times before fleeing.

Police told WFLD the driver's face and body were bruised, and he was taken to a hospital in fair condition. The station's report does not include the video circulating on social media.

A 15-year-old male identified as a suspect in the attack was arrested in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue and charged with one count of aggravated battery to a transit employee and disorderly conduct, police added to the station.

Fox News said police did not confirm that the video circulating on social media shows the attack on the 49-year-old bus driver. Police instead directed the cable news network to the "initial narrative" that two suspects were involved and added that the department "[does] not have any additional information," Fox News noted.

While the report on the attack from WBBM-TV doesn't include the video circulating on social media, either, it does show what appears to be a bus driver holding a cloth or towel on the side of his face and walking into an ambulance — and the victim looks similar to the apparent driver the mob attacked in the cellphone video.

Anything else?

Police told WGN-TV at least 20 juveniles were taken into custody Saturday night amid violent chaos in the Loop that forced authorities to use crowd control measures. In addition to the attack on the bus driver, a 15-year-old was shot in the arm after bumping into a man, the station said.

The next day Mayor Lori Lightfoot was asked how she plans to curb violence in the Loop moving forward, WGN said.

“We are going to take significant, swift action to quell any issues,” Lightfoot replied, according to the station. “[Saturday night] there were a large number of children that were down at Millennium Park. We followed the protocols that we put in place from the summer of 2020. When it was time for them to leave the park, we made sure they left the park without incident.”

Here's more of what Lightfoot said:
