Future GOP leaders must build trust not sabotage allies

CNN last week revealed an excerpt from a new book in which Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) criticized both Donald Trump and Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.). The headline said, “McConnell says ‘MAGA movement is completely wrong’ and Reagan ‘wouldn’t recognize’ Trump’s GOP.” With the election less than a week away, such attacks are not only divisive but harm the Republican Party’s chances of success.

Only a few hours before CNN published this article, McConnell gave this quote to a Fox News reporter: “I’m still a Traditional Republican... there are some on my side now who don’t sound that way. I'm going to be arguing more with them probably than the Democrats.”

The next Republican leader must uphold a view that all senators are equal, which is rooted in respect for the will of voters.

McConnell’s statements reflect a mindset that prioritizes defending the status quo of the Republican establishment over reflecting the will of Republican voters. McConnell has taken this approach in both campaigns and in managing the Senate floor.

On the campaign side, McConnell has not only publicly criticized the party’s presidential standard-bearer two weeks out from an election, but he has also withheld support from high-profile Republican senators such as Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Rick Scott. This undermines party cohesion and damages our prospects in close races.

Cruz and Scott have both famously been critical of McConnell’s approach to managing the Senate. The McConnell-aligned super PAC, the Senate Leadership Fund, has to date not spent any money defending Cruz or Scott in their electoral battles to hold their Senate seats and help Republicans win a majority in the Senate.

A leaked internal memo from SLF, first obtained by Politico, reveals that the super PAC is aware of the struggles faced by Cruz in Texas. “We still have a lot of work to do to maximize our gains in this critical Senate election,” the memo states. “We need to add media markets and expand into the final week in all our target states. We also have to guard our flanks.”

The memo adds: “In Texas, Colin Allred has crept up on Ted Cruz by heavily outspending him for weeks.”

While claiming an intent to “guard our flanks,” the McConnell-aligned super PAC has spent precisely zero dollars to help Cruz. Likewise, SLF spent nothing to defend Cruz in his similarly close 2018 race.

McConnell’s approach exemplifies the mindset of our current leadership — a mindset that prioritizes establishment republicanism over conservative victory.

In managing the senate floor when he was majority leader, McConnell used a procedural power of the floor leader known as “filling the tree” to block both Democratic and Republican senators from offering amendments. He told us time and again that this was important for protecting senators in tight re-elections from taking tough votes.

Both McConnell’s actions regarding campaigns and his ironfisted rule of the Senate demonstrate a drive to shape the Republican Senate conference and the party to reflect his vision of republicanism. Rather than having an unbending view that all Senators are equal and the priorities they represent for their constituents deserve debate, McConnell has taken the approach that he knows better than his Republican Senate colleagues and better than Republican voters. Strong leadership means operating with the support of — rather than against — the Republican conference and the people who elected us.

With McConnell stepping down as GOP Senate leader, it’s a critical time to reflect on what type of leadership will best serve the party going forward. A Senate GOP leader’s primary role is to support colleagues, not sabotage them. Such unity directly impacts voter trust, morale, and the party’s effectiveness in delivering results.

I make this argument not to kick Senator McConnell on his way out the door but rather to make the case that Republican Senate leadership must take a new approach. As we look to the future, candidates vying to replace McConnell must offer clarity on how they will lead and support all GOP candidates, regardless of personal differences.

The next Republican leader must uphold a view that all senators are equal, which is rooted in respect for the will of voters. This commitment to equality is essential to strengthen and restore the United States Senate to the world’s greatest deliberative body that it once was.

We need leaders who will prioritize the interests of all Republicans and foster a spirit of support and solidarity. With this approach, we can move toward a stronger, more cohesive Senate GOP that’s ready to lead and win.

Mitch McConnell’s Entire Legacy Is ‘Misunderstanding Politics’

Mitch McConnell was correct in saying he has many faults. Misunderstanding politics was perhaps the worst of them.

New Low: Only 6 Percent Of Americans Approve Of GOP Leader Mitch McConnell

Senate Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell remains the least popular politician in the country, according to a new poll out Monday.

Biden falls farther into decrepitude and in the polls

President Joe Biden kicked off his 81st trip around the sun with his lowest-ever approval rating since taking office.

According to a national NBC News poll published Sunday, 40% of registered voters approve and 57% of voters disapprove of the geriatric Democrat's performance

Rasmussen Reports painted a slightly rosier picture for Biden on his birthday, indicating he has an approval rating of 42% and a disapproval rating of 56%.

While America's oldest president ever to haunt the Oval Office has been deeply unpopular for months, Biden has begun to hemorrhage support from previously staunch defenders. In September, 46% of voters in the 18-to-34 age category signaled approval for the president. According to the NBC national poll, that rating has dropped to 31%.

Biden appears to have taken a significant hit over his various foreign policy blunders as well as for his support of Israel, which radicals in his own party have taken issue with. 51% of Democratic voters figure Israel has gone too far in its war with Hamas. Only 27% of Democratic voters figure Israel's actions are justified.

"Joe Biden is at a uniquely low point in his presidency, and a significant part of this, especially within the Biden coalition, is due to how Americans are viewing his foreign policy actions," Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, told NBC News.

Biden's loss of support is not occurring in a vacuum.

Former President Donald Trump was trailing Biden as of September in a head-to-head matchup according to the NBC News poll. Now, even with 91 criminal charges and a hostile media against him, Trump has a two-point lead.

Biden maintains advantages over Trump with black voters, women, and college graduates, whereas Trump leads by vast margins with white voters, men, and rural voters. Apparently, this breakdown serves the former president well in key battleground states.

A New York Times and Siena College poll revealed earlier this month that Trump had a significant edge in five of the six most important battleground states, leading by approximately five points in Arizona; six points in Georgia; five points in Michigan; 10 points in Nevada; and four points in Pennsylvania.

Although the Democratic Party's anti-Israeli contingent may have weighed Biden down in the latest NBC poll, it appears his age is also causing him to stumble politically.

A mid-September Reuters/Ipsos poll, which similarly showed Trump leading in critical swing states, revealed that 77% of respondents, including 65% of Democrats, figured Biden was too old to be president. Only 39% of respondents suggested Biden had the mental sharpness to do his job.

A Wall Street Journal poll similarly suggested that the supermajority of Democratic voters figured Biden was far too old to seek a second term.

These concerns appeared to have matured along with the president.

A CNN survey conducted by the University of New Hampshire revealed last week that 56% of Democratic primary voters noted age was their biggest concern regarding Biden.

Biden, who indicated last October that he "could drop dead tomorrow," has provided cynics with plenty of reasons to doubt his ability. Beyond spending well over a year of his presidency on vacation, Biden has shown significant trouble remaining upright, having publicly fallen on numerous occasions; communication issues, struggling with simple words, confusing names, and repeating himself ostensibly for no rhetoricical benefit; and an apparent need for cue cards for instructions on how to execute basic functions.

If Democrats find it in themselves to help re-elect Biden, he will begin his second term at 82 and end at the age of 86. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, American men can expect to live 73.2 years.

Vice President Kamala Harris, similarly struggling with a low approval rating, made clear in September that "every vice president — every vice president — understands that when they take the oath, that they must be very clear about the responsibility they may have to take over the job of being president. I am no different."

Legal group files federal civil rights complaint against NASCAR for racial discrimination over 'diversity' programs

Racing organization NASCAR has been handed a federal civil rights complaint on the grounds of racial and sexual discrimination months after the company was revealed to offer certain programs based on gender or ethnic background.

The complaint was filed by America First Legal, a legal group led by former senior adviser to President Trump Stephen Miller.

"America First Legal’s (AFL) Center for Legal Equality filed a federal civil rights complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against NASCAR and Rev Racing, LLC. for illegal racial and sex discrimination," a press release stated.

"NASCAR and Rev Racing jointly operate a series of programs in violation of Title VII," it added.

In August 2023, Blaze News reported that NASCAR had a series of diversity-driven programs that asked for applicants specifically of certain races or who were female.

These included the "NASCAR Supplier Diversity" (archive), which said it ensures "equitable opportunities to participate in NASCAR’s supply chain."

Applicants are only eligible if they have "Minority-owned businesses (Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Latinx or Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander)" or a female-owned business or are from an "LGBT-owned" business.

The racing league also implemented a Pit Crew Development Program that was previously available only to "aspiring minority and female pit crew members," as well as a Driver Development Program that was open to "talented, young, up-and-coming minority and female drivers and pit crew athletes" only.

NASCAR has since removed the gender- and race-specific language in favor of preferring candidates from "diverse backgrounds and experiences."

However, America First Legal provided an original version of one the posts on its website.

In addition, NASCAR had also sported a paid internship program that required applicants to be "one or more of the following races/ethnic minority classifications: Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Asian, Latino or Hispanic, Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander."

The potentially discriminatory language was also removed from that posting; however, the original version still exists on the Daily Wire's website.

"NASCAR, in partnership with Rev Racing, has created programs for the benefit of individuals based explicitly on their sex and race. This illegal activity should not permitted to continue," said Nick Barry of America First Legal. "NASCAR shouldn’t be picking drivers based on their race and sex but on their ability to drive. All racial discrimination is wrong, even if it is the in-vogue ‘social justice’ cause of the day."

NASCAR Digital responded to a previous request for comment from Blaze News but only noted that questions would be forwarded "to the appropriate department." No further correspondence has been provided.

Beck announces The Nazarene Fund prepared to send its first flight to Israel to rescue Americans, more on their way

Glenn Beck recently announced that there is an active mission to bring Americans back home who are stuck in Israel amid the war between the Jewish state and Hamas. The effort is spearheaded by The Nazarene Fund, an organization that aims to "rescue, rebuild, and restore" Christians and other religious and ethnic minorities around the world.

The announcement was made Friday afternoon on Instagram, where Beck said that the first plane to rescue Americans from the area is set to leave over the weekend.

"I have some really good news," Beck said in the video. "We have been working on this for a few days, but as you can imagine, it's a little difficult with a war going on. But our first flight to bring the Americans home from Israel is going to be leaving this weekend."

"I can't give you any [more] details on this. We just want to keep everybody safe and everything calm. If you have a family member that needs to come home from Israel, they're stranded and they can't get out, please just contact us."

Beck noted the best way to contact The Nazarene Fund about the effort is to email IsraelToAmerica@protonmail.com, noting that more information can be found at TheNazareneFund.com or MercuryOne.com.

"Again, our first flight is leaving this weekend," Beck added. "This will not be the last flight. We are going to try to get everybody out that needs to get out. If we want our government to do less, I guess we have to do more."

Blaze News reported on Thursday that a fellow employee, Ashton DeGroot, shared that her husband and brother-in-law had been stuck inside Israel. While it was unclear how the two were going to make it out of the Jewish state amid the conflict, the U.S. government eventually announced a plan to get Americans out of harm's way.

DeGroot provided Blaze News with a copy of the email that was sent to her husband from the State Department, which said: "We are writing to update you on U.S. government assistance to depart Israel. We plan to offer transit options beginning on Friday, October 13, but it will take some period of time to schedule everyone seeking to depart."

"If you choose to take this departure assistance, transportation will be by air to Athens or Frankfurt, or sea from Haifa to Cyprus. You will not be able to choose your destination – we will assign you to the next available flight or ship," the email added.

"You will be asked to sign an agreement to repay the U.S. government prior to departure. You should be prepared to arrange your own lodging and onward travel from Greece, Germany or Cyprus to your final destination," the email concluded.

U.S. Congressman Cory Mills took to social media to express his discontent with the time it had taken President Joe Biden's administration to make a decision about how to logistically get Americans out of danger.

Mills posted: "If Biden and his administration won’t prioritize American lives then I will step up and do his job for him! 77 Americans in 2 days safe and no longer trapped in Israel while Biden thinks of a plan. Politician Talk and Statesmen Act! This is the second country (Afghanistan 2021 & Israel 2023) we’ve had to save Americans because Biden had no plan and No leadership! This never happened under President Trump!"

"Since Hamas' indiscriminate attack on Israel Saturday morning, our offices have received harrowing reports from constituents who remain in Israel and are seeking to return to the United States as soon as possible," a letter read, dated October 10, addressed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken and signed by a group of 100 bipartisan lawmakers.

They went on to urge "the State Department to use all resources at its disposal, including charter flights, to help those Americans that remain in Israel and wish to return to the United States."

While it is not clear how many flights The Nazarene Fund will be sending overseas to rescue Americans, Beck made it clear that the first flight would not be the last one. There is also no information available on how many Americans have contacted the fund about returning home.
