LA Dodgers now promote 'Christian Faith and Family Day,' even as controversy regarding anti-Christian drag queens lingers: 'We are grateful for the opportunity to talk about Jesus'

The L.A. Dodgers have decided to host a Christian family night at their ballpark, even as a "Pride" event featuring drag queens — who frequently mock all of Christianity and Catholic nuns in particular — remains on the schedule.

Earlier this month, the Dodgers angered Christians and other Americans of good will when they promoted a "Pride Night" event during which they planned to honor the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of men who don lavish makeup and nun habits and sometimes dance lasciviously, even occasionally interrupting Christians engaging in sacred worship. After strong backlash from the public, the team then disinvited the faux nuns only to reinvite them after local LGBTQ groups threatened to boycott the Pride Night event, scheduled for June 16.

"After much thoughtful feedback from our diverse communities, honest conversation within the Los Angeles Dodgers organization and generous discussions with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the Los Angeles Dodgers would like to offer our sincerest apologies to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, members of the LGBTQ+ community and their friends and families," the Dodgers said in a statement released on Monday, adding that the Sisters would join them as originally planned.

The Pride event with the fake nuns has drawn so much ire that Bishop Robert Barron, who until recently was an auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, has called for Catholics to boycott the Dodgers. "I’m a big baseball fan," the bishop tweeted on Thursday. "I’ve even thrown out the first pitch at a Dodgers game. But I’d encourage my friends in LA to boycott the Dodgers. Let’s not just pray, but make our voices heard in defense of our Catholic faith."

Perhaps in an attempt to appease Barron and other outraged Christians, the Dodgers have now decided to offer a "Christian Faith and Family Day," scheduled for July 30, when the Dodgers will host the Cincinnati Reds.

“Join us at Dodger Stadium on 7/30 for Christian Faith and Family Day. Stay after the game to celebrate and be part of a day of worship. Stay tuned for more details.”

Star pitcher Clayton Kershaw, an outspoken Christian, celebrated his team's announcement. "Excited to announce the relaunch of Christian Faith and Family Day at Dodger Stadium on July 30th," Kershaw tweeted. "More details to come – but we are grateful for the opportunity to talk about Jesus and determined to make it bigger and better than it was before COVID. Hope to see you on July 30th!"

As Kershaw's tweet implies, the Dodgers have hosted Christian Faith and Family Day in years past. The last one occurred in 2019, the season before government shutdowns forced teams to play in empty stadiums. Other MLB teams — including the Reds, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, and Texas Rangers — have hosted similar, faith-based events.

Viral video shows Dodgers fan catch a foul ball with his bare hand while carrying a baby — without spilling his beer

A Los Angeles Dodgers fan was praised online after video showed him catching a baseball with his bare hand while carrying his baby —without spilling the beer in his other hand.

The multi-tasking dad made the impressive grab during the game between the Dodgers and the St. Louis Cardinals at the stadium in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday.

"Dad's making plays!" said the announcer over a replay of the catch. "A beverage, a baby, and a baseball!"

The official social media account of the Dodgers posted the video to Twitter, where it quickly garnered more than 1.1 million views.

He was lauded by many on social media.

"This is the trifecta of baseball and what we all as fathers aspire to. It’s the pinnacle. Triple BBB Baby beer baseball," read one tweet.

"Dad power at dodger stadium is insane," replied another user.

The man was later identified by KNBC-TV as Steve Pettit, an engineer at the Glendale Fire Department and a lifelong Dodgers fan.

"The ball just kind of came up, and it was kind of like slow motion," Pettit told KNBC. "It was sort of like, ‘Boop!’ It just like came right to my hand."

His wife Misty said she was stunned by the moment and whipped out her own camera to record the audience's reaction.

"I pulled my camera out and started to record the reaction because the crowd was going wild, which was really fun to see," she said.

The Dodgers did their part and went on to beat the Cardinals 6 to 3, sweeping their opponents in the series meetup.

'Dress code? Sunday's Best Drags': Los Angeles LGBT Center advertises 'all-ages Drag March' scheduled for Easter

While Christians around the world are poised to celebrate the resurrection of the lord, Jesus Christ, this Sunday, the Los Angeles LGBT Center is advertising an "all-ages Drag March" slated to be held Easter Sunday.

"On Easter Sunday (April 9), the Los Angeles LGBT Center will host the all-ages Drag March LA--mobilizing against the oppressive anti-LGBTQ+ tidal wave in America. Why? There are already over 400 pieces of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on the books—unsurprisingly, most of them target transgender people. Dress code? Sunday’s Best Drags," an Eventbrite post states.

"In partnership with local LGBTQ+ organizations, faith groups, queer and trans activists, and the finest drag artists in the City of Angels, this proud assembly will march down Santa Monica Blvd starting at West Hollywood Park for the rally," the post explains.

A lengthy list of event supporters includes the ACLU of Southern California and many other entities — speakers will include LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath and West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne, according to a social media post. The Eventbrite post indicates that "activists and families from impacted states who are fighting anti-LGBTQ+ legislation" will speak.

“This year alone, there are over 400 pieces of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on the books.
On Easter Sunday (April 9th), we’ll gather in our Sunday Best to show the world what we’re made of—and that we’re not going back.

RSVP NOW https://t.co/6dc8e2vtl5”
— Los Angeles LGBT Center (@Los Angeles LGBT Center) 1680707242

The march comes amid ongoing cultural debate over issues such as whether children should be exposed to drag queens and radical leftist gender ideology, whether kids should be able to receive transgender hormones and surgeries, and whether males who identify as females should be permitted to compete in female school sports and use female facilities. Some states have enacted measures to push back against the LGBT agenda.

"Drag has always been political and gender has always been policed. LGBTQ+ people have always known (and shown) that there are many shades of the rainbow—and once again, it’s time for us to put them all on full display; we will not stand by while the far right seeks to roll back our rights," the Eventbrite post for the drag march states.

Old video clip of Vin Scully delivering crushing criticism of socialism goes viral after death of legendary broadcaster

An old video clip of legendary sportscaster Vin Scully delivering a crushing rebuke of socialism has gone viral after the longtime Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster passed away.

Scully died on Tuesday at the age of 94 after calling Dodgers games for 67 seasons – starting in 1950 when the MLB team was based in Brooklyn and retiring in 2016.

During an MLB game between the Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers in 2016, Scully voiced a scathing admonishment of socialism.

"Socialism failing to work as it always does," Scully began his chiding of the left-wing ideology. "This time in Venezuela."

"You talk about giving everybody something free and all of a sudden there’s no food to eat," Scully explained.

Scully continued to dismantle socialism by asking, "And who do you think is the richest person in Venezuela?"

Scully – who was the longest-tenured broadcaster with a single team in sports history – answered his own question, "The daughter of Hugo Chavez. Hello!"

The Dodgers broadcaster then seamlessly returned to calling the baseball game, "Anyway, 0-2."

On Wednesday, Outkick founder Clay Travis resurfaced the clip from six years ago on Twitter to commemorate the death of Scully. The tweet has been retweeted over 7,000 times and has more than 33,000 likes.

“Vin Scully on socialism.”
— Clay Travis (@Clay Travis) 1659501057

Scully was referencing the socialist government in Venezuela under Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro.

Venezuela's economy tanked in the 2010s – which caused massive food shortages. The government severely cut back on food provided to its citizens.

A survey conducted in 2016 revealed that 74.3% of Venezuelans lost an average of at least 19 pounds because of malnutrition brought on by the economic crisis. The survey also found that 93.3% of Venezuelans didn't have enough money to pay for their food expenses. The poll noted that only 32% of Venezuelans eat at least two times a day. There were 65% of Venezuelans who said their children skipped school because of food-related reasons – including standing in long food lines for their parents.

A 2015 report from the Miami-based Diario Las América claimed that the "favorite daughter" of then-President Chavez was the richest person in Venezuela. The outlet claimed that Maria Gabriela Chavez had a net worth of nearly $4.2 billion after receiving a massive inheritance from her father when he died in 2013. Maria Gabriela Chavez was believed to have a larger fortune than Venezuelan businessman Gustavo Cisneros – who was said to have a net worth of $3.6 billion.

Although Scully wasn't typically political, he declared in November 2017 that he would never watch another NFL game because of the player protests during the national anthem.

"I have only one personal thought, really. And I am so disappointed," Scully said. "I used to love, during the fall and winter, to watch the NFL on Sunday."

"And it's not that I'm some great patriot. I was in the Navy for a year. Didn't go anywhere. Didn't do anything," he continued. "But I have overwhelming respect and admiration for anyone who puts on a uniform and goes to war. So the only thing I can do in my little way is not to preach. I will never watch another NFL game."

Besides being the legendary Dodgers broadcaster, Scully also called NFL games on CBS in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Los Angeles Dodgers will commemorate Scully with a pregame tribute on Friday, and the players will wear a commemorative patch on their uniforms featuring a microphone and "Vin."

LA court orders power cut at restaurant that defied COVID rules. So the owner bought a generator.

A Los Angeles County court authorized the City of Burbank to disconnect electricity powering a restaurant that refused to shut down in compliance with extreme pandemic-related restrictions.

What happened?

Tinhorn Flats refused to abide by a temporary restraining order issued March 8 that required the restaurant to remain closed because the restaurant violated COVID-19 restrictions, KTTV-TV reported.

But the restaurant continued operations in defiance of the order.

In response, a Los Angeles Superior Court said Friday that Burbank officials could disconnect power at the restaurant.

In a statement issued by the city, officials hinted they may seek to lock the doors of the restaurant if the owners continue to operate their small business.

The statement said:

This morning due to Barfly Inc., Tin Horn Flats, continuing to remain open in defiance of the Temporary Restraining Order issued on March 8, 2021, the Los Angeles Superior Court authorized the City of Burbank to disconnect the electricity to Tin Horn Flats' property after giving 24-hours' notice. The court did not provide permission to padlock the doors at this time but continues to reserve such a remedy as a last resort.

Did the court order stop the restaurant?

Despite having no power, the restaurant has continued operations undeterred.

"The owner says they will continue to stay open and are currently using a generator as a power source," KTTV reported.

Indeed, the restaurant said in a Facebook post on Sunday, "We are open and we will NOT comply."

What is the background?

The City of Burbank pursued litigation against Tinhorn Flats after officials discovered the restaurant was not abiding by the city's COVID-19 restrictions last December. At the time, state and local restrictions prohibited indoor and outdoor dining.

Restaurant co-owner Lucas Lepejian told KTTV he was not scared of city officials because he was operating safely.

"They're coming after us for having 10, 15 people in a small environment. It absolutely makes no sense and [is] completely unconstitutional," Lepejian said.

"I've got nothing left to lose," Lepejian said. "I'm opposing tyranny. ... I'm doing COVID-19 safety protocols."

Anything else?

Burbank's battle against the small business comes as Los Angeles County officials have finally permitted restaurants to operate at 25% indoor capacity as of Monday.

Trump tweets suspicious video of ballots being collected after a state was called, and local election officials respond

President Donald Trump tweeted on Wednesday a video showing election ballots being collected after an unnamed state had been called in the media. Just an hour later, local election officials responded.

The president tweeted the video from his Twitter account, which has almost 90 million followers.

You are looking at BALLOTS! Is this what our Country has come to? https://t.co/cI2ZTItqUi
— Donald J. Trump (@Donald J. Trump)1605128361.0

"You are looking at BALLOTS! Is this what our Country has come to?" tweeted the president.

In the video a woman walks up to two men who are picking up ballots from drop boxes and placing them into duffel bags.

"I thought they collected them all? I just want to document," says the woman on the video. The worker's response is unintelligible.

"Wait, but how come they already called the state?" asks the woman.

"Because these are mail-in ballot," responds one man.

"Are there a ton in there?" she asks. "Thank you guys. Are you guys official election guys?"

One shows her his identification badge and objects to her standing too close to them, ostensibly because of coronavirus guidelines.

"Where do you guys take them?" she asks.

"Collection center," says the man.

"I just want to see because they called our state so quickly," she adds.

The video quickly garnered millions of views and many of his supporters assumed that the video was showing evidence of voter fraud a week after election day.

"We're still counting"

But, according to reporter Bill Melugin of KTTV-TV, there is nothing "nefarious" going on in the video because it's from Los Angeles and was recorded the day after the election.

"There is nothing nefarious about this. LA County locked and closed all the drop boxes at 8pm on election night and ballots were collected from the boxes the next day. We're still counting. LA is very slow," Melugin explained.

Very soon after, the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office also tried to undo any implication of wrongdoing surrounding the video.

"Yes, they are ballots; valid, legally cast ballots collected and processed by authorized election officials in accordance with the California Elections Code," they tweeted.

"The Drop Boxes are closed and locked at 8PM on Election Night and then collected the following day. These are valid ballots processed and counted during the post election canvass. Local certification in CA is on Nov 30," they added in a second tweet.

At least in the presidential race, California was called early because of overwhelming evidence that Joe Biden would carry the state easily.
